1223-1226 In the Living Years

((Not really seeing any obstacles at this point to a, ehm, mutually beneficial arrangement. Where should we go from here?))

((Bow chicka wow wow))

((pretty much. Blanche is going to want to keep going, right up until about sunset, at least...which is about three hours. Does Gaston want to stay through sunset, or is he going to beg off before it gets dark?))

((Yeah ... story-wise, it's more fun if Gaston wants to stay past sunset. Character-wise, he's probably just fine with wham-bam-thank-you-spooky-ma'am.))

If Blanche has a bag of goodies and a bottle of wine, they're gonna get it on right tonight...

Oh, and Lecherous and Overconfident for Gaston? Fuhgeddaboudit. He isn't going to be willing to tear himself away from someone who is so willing...

JL's pretty excited about these developments :stuck_out_tongue:

((So, what's the verdict? Is Gaston going to go for a quicky with this attractive, willing, enthusiastic and vocal stranger, or is he going to stay through sunset? Blanche has Sta +3, so she's not going anywhere for a while  ))

I think Gaston would do the quickie and leave it at that. He's a little nervous about Eloise wandering by and finding out (or finding out through an intermediate), plus is still suspicious of Blanche thanks to the Gift. Plus hey, it's time for supper at some point.

A couple of days after her tryst with Gaston, Fiona will track down Alexei (presumably in the library, since he's studying The Stag, The Hound, and The Prince of the Seven Crowns that season, Winter of 1226), and ask for a few minutes of her time.

Assuming he does, Fiona (looking awkward) says, [color=blue]"I wanted to apologize for putting you in an awkward spot. I should have talked to you first before I disguised myself and went slumming, but...I'm still not used to sharing with people. I'll try to be better in the future.

"But...on the plus side...we found a weakness in our defences?"

Alexei looks up at the sound of Fiona's voice but in the wrong direction initially. After craning his head and squinting he finally sees Fiona. "Oh think nothing of it." he says, obviously a subject he feels isn't his busines. At the mention of defenses he turns. "Wait, what did you mean?"

((Shouldn't be that hard to see an almost-nine-feet-tall redhead :stuck_out_tongue: ))

[color=blue]"I'm just saying that I'm surprised that no one challenged an unescorted stranger on the covenant grounds...shouldn't matter how attractive she is." She smiles and winks at the last phrase, but the rest is said in a serious tone.

[color=blue]"And I'm not talking about any one particular person. I was able to walk from my cottage, through the regio barrier, to the training grounds unmolested."

((hope it got a laugh, part of Alexei's issues are very poor eyes, and they're going to get worse after his aging crisis, part of the defense issue could definitely be that he's not seeing everything he needs to see))

Alexei considers the circumstances. "Yes, that does seem like an issue. Even after the incident, we still have unguarded openings, and all too trusting grogs. Some things we might not be able to rectify fully I'm afraid though. It all depends on how much we're willing to sacrifice to protect the place...and understand it will still fail to a determined and resourceful opponent. There is no castle that can't fall. However we have been talking about several new defense options. This particular weakness needs to be addressed through discipline and wariness. And that...can be accomplished."

((Ah. Did not realize that.))

Fiona looks at Alexei, worried as she notices him squinting up at him. [color=blue]"What's wrong, Alexei? Are your eyes bothering you?"

[color=blue]"If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Oh...how are your Muto and Corpus?"

Alexei abruptly stops squinting, suddenly acutely aware that he was squinting, and then recalling how when he was not two feet from Fiona, he couldn't recognize her when she'd shrunk and changed her hair color.

"What? Oh...nothing, nothing really. All this reading I've been doing...strains the eyes a bit. My Muto and Corpus..? Uh...I'd say say I'm rather proficient in both. I need to be for the School of Ramius. Why do you ask?"

((I can't check it here, but I believe Corpus is 16 and Muto is 12-14))

[color=blue]"I have an idea. A little on the devious side, I hope you don't mind. As you may have noticed, my sigil is white. Anything I've case a spell on turns white, or at least part of it does. When I transform someone, say with Preternatural Growth and Shrinking or my Aura of Righteous Authority, their hair turns white until the spell ends. Since it's my sigil, there's nothing I can do about it. Someone else, on the other hand, should be able to follow after and change the colour of my hair so that it's not so obviously my spell.

"Unless I'm dead wrong. Would you care to try, see if my theory holds water?"

Alexei shrugs his shoulders and smiles. "Certainly my dear, I'd be happy to try. I should think it would work, while you might not be suppress your own sigil, at the end it is merely changing one's hair colour, which I should be able to do. I wonder if a Perdo Vim could possibly mute or limit a Sigil?"

Fiona thinks for a minute. [color=blue]"To the best of my understanding, Perdo cannot affect sigils. Muto can, but it is very tricky, and must be cast at the same time as the original spell with precise timing." ((As near as I can tell, that's right. The only Perdo Vim guidelines I could find only refer to the spell itself, and the MuVi seems to indicate that the sigil can be altered only when the spell is cast, must have a duration at least as long as the target spell, and if cast on one's own spell, requires a Concentration roll of 9+; if on someone else's, the magi must either be cooperating or whoever's casting the MuVi must fast-cast it. Fiona's Magic Theory roll, for if I missed something, is Int 1 + Magic Theory 6 + die roll of 8 = 15.

She then sponts a variation of her Preternatural Growth and Shrinking to reduce herself to normal human size (a shade over five feet tall); base 3, +1 for size, R: Personal, D: Moon (+3), T: Individual, for a final target level of 15. CT is Sta 3 + Mu 17 + Co 15 + Aura 5 + die roll of 3 = 43, halved is 22.

She then thinks for a minute to picture the changes she wants to make, then casts another spontaneous MuCo to make herself look younger (remove the crows'-feet from around her eyes, smooth out any wrinkles she may have), straighten out her hair, give herself a slimmer, more voluptuous figure, nice legs, remove any sags she may have. Basically, make herself look hotter. Base 3, R: Personal, D: Moon (+3), T: Individual, for a final target level of 10. CT is Sta 3 + Mu 17 + Co 15 + Aura 5 + die roll of 0 (botch check...well, fudge.). It's a botch.

Meanwhile, when she shrank, Fiona tried to grab the collar of her robe to keep it from hitting the floor, but failed. She simply shrugged, since she needed her hands free to cast the next spell anyway, and was planning on Creo'ing some new clothes in a moment, anyway.

This...could be interesting.

Serf's Parma, I believe masking one's sigil is perfectly doable with MuVi, even after the spell has been cast. IIRC, Shroud Magic just does that, although I'm on both Serf and Al Parma on this.

Pulling up my MC, the description for Shroud Magic says, "This spell allows a magus to suppress or alter the sigil in a spell that is currently being cast." It's a General MuVi spell that can affect spells up to twice its level.
