level three spells for you edification and coment

I sat down over the last few weeks and created spells of level three and lower from the guidelines in the rulebook.

Level three is a spell level that any magus can cast. It is a level that is practical to get with non-fatiguing spontaneous spells. It is a level that characters can spont when they use no voice and subtle gestures, or when they are fast casting.

I chose to create spells that are directly derived from the published guidelines so the derived spells would not be controversial. I did not include wards because a level three rego (x) ward vs. creatures of (x) is somewhat useless and not particularly creative.

I have in some situations interpreted the guidelines broadly, perhaps more broadly than would be appropriate or a formulaic spell (see bits of beasts that betray for an example). But these are not going to be formulaic spells. It is a simple matter to limit a specific spontaneous casting to the situation at hand.

The format of the spells is a bit odd, this odd format will allow me to effortlessly paste them into the spells wiki when they're done.

Creo animal

There are no spells worth casting from the creo animal guidelines at level three (unless you happen to be a Bjornaer in your animal form and want to give yourself a +1 on recovery rolls for a day).

Intellego animal

!!Far Side of the Cow.
InAn Level 3
R: Voice, D: Momentary, T: Individual

You get a momentary glimpse of any side of the target animal.

This could be used to see if a sleeping ball of fur has big teeth and claws or not or to determine what it was that just brushed up against you in the dark. If the spell fails the caster might well suspect an animal with might, an illusion, or a transformed human.

Creo Auram

!!Enough Air for Revenge.
CrAu Level 3
R: Touch, D: diameter, T: individual
Create a fresh breeze on the caster

Many magi have found this spell to be of use when they have been attacked by some magic that surrounds them but does not penetrate their parma, such as a spell that changes all of the air in a room to poison or a spell that dumps a great deal of rock upon the magus.
Contributor: Tyrrell.
Notes: From Tyrrell’s big list of level three spells

Intellego Auram

Very interesting project!

Keep up the good work.

!!Disguised Horse.
MuAn Level 3
R: Touch, D: Concentration, T: Individual

You change the coloring on an animal that you touch as you cast the spell.

Interesting name for the spell, considering it wouldn't work on a full-sized horse (would on a colt or a pony, of course).

Jan

I'm waiting for the corpus spells. I made several lvl 3 spells at one time, but my books are buried in the basement right now. Mayby some Intellego or Rego magics can help find them.

Just wanted to comment that it's an Icicle, not an Ice Sickle. I'll shut up now. :stuck_out_tongue:

These are the sorts of comments that I was looking for. I'll change icicle and I'll rename the critter disguise spell (forgot that a horse was >+2 size).

Thank you very much.

I've done all of the way through vim I just haven't had time to take them from my notebook to the computer yet.

Looks Like I'll be busy the rest of the week as well.

Creo Corpus

!!Healthy glow of the new apprentice.
CrCo Level 3
R: Personal, D: Sun, T: individual
You receive a +1 to all recovery rolls for the duration of the spell.

Contributor: Tyrrell.

Muto corpus

!!Glance of the cat.
MuCo Level 3
R: Personal, D: diameter, T: individual
As eyes of the cat adjusted to range personal and duration diameter.

Obviously a duration concentration version would be superior is some circumstances, and “perked ear of the fox” or “sniff of the hound" would be no more difficult.
Contributor: Tyrrell.
Notes: From Tyrrell’s big list of level three spells

!!Eyeblink of the Cat
MuCo Level 3

Perdo Corpus

!!Evidence to Damn a Sibling
PeCo Level 3
R: Personal, D: momentary, T: individual
The caster’s body is damaged in some minor non-debilitating way such as getting a black eye or being covered with boils.
Contributor: Tyrrell.
Notes: From Tyrrell’s big list of level three spells

Rego Corpus

!!Touch of the Oaf
ReCo Level 3
R: Touch, D: momentary, T: individual
The target momentarly looses control of a body part selected at the spells creation. This could lead to farting belching a momentary loss of bladder control, drooling or many similar results. Note that it need not lead to this result depending upon the state of the target’s body (perhaps they have an empty bladder or are blissfully vapor free). A similar spell could make a target drop an item that they hold in one of their hands.
Contributor: Tyrrell.
Notes: From Tyrrell’s big list of level three spells

Shouldn't "Glance of the Bat" (and Eyeblink) be Glance of the Cat instead as the former would be a InAu with a target of "Hearing"?
Also shouldn't "Touch of the Oaf" have a target of Part? it's easier to control the whole body so a valid lvl 3 spell would be something like this:
!!Stumble of the Fool
ReCo Level 3
R: Touch, D: momentary, T: individual
The target momentarly looses control his body and falls flat. If he was walking it looks like he stumbled. If not he "slips" and falls over.
Contributor: HOThunestvedt.
Notes: Inspired by Tyrrell’s big list of level three spells

I editied the spell to go with eyes of the cat. thanks

Although you'd think that target part would be required, the guideline for rego corpus is make target loose control of part of their body. Guidelines are default target individual. That's why I made the spell wth target individual.

I'm not completely pleased with all of the ramaifications of target part. There are some instanaces where having target part creates unwanted effects such as; Why on earth would anyone ever invent disguise of the new visage when they can make a target individual MuIm spell that's five levels lower and does more? Since I've seen this rego corpus guideline I've been considering adding some new guidelines that are specific to target part to get around these issues.

Muto Vim

I couldn’t come up with anything even remotely useful as a level 3 muto vim spell.

Perdo Vim

A strict reading of the guidelines would imply that a version of Demon’s Eternal oblivion that reduces a target demon’s might by 11 is a level three spell. My opinion is that such strict reading is not warranted.

Rego Vim

I couldn’t come up with anything even remotely useful as a level 3 muto vim spell. Aside from oddities caused by the weirdness of spells of less than level five getting bonus range /duration/targets for one level rather than five. This wasn’t proper for Demon’s eternal Oblivion and it isn’t right for maintain the demanding spell and its ilk either.
