1223-1226 In the Living Years

Have Fiona's Five-Year Plan penciled in.

She has Princeps Duty every fall, starting in 1222 (as we only have four members now, unless Viscaria wants to become a member as opposed to just being a consultant).

Winter 1222: teach Sheelagh Latin.
Spring 1223: teach Sheelagh Artes Liberales.
Summer 1223: Teach Sheelagh & Paul(?) Magic Theory.
Winter 1223: Enhanced Curse of Circe.
Spring 1224: Enhanced Curse of Circe.
Summer 1224: Learn to ride.
Winter 1224: Study Tribunal Book.
Spring 1225: Teach Sheelagh something.
Summer 1225: Learn offensive spell.
Winter 1225: Teach Sheelagh something.
Spring 1226: Study Rego.
Summer 1226: Teach Sheelagh something.
Winter 1226: Study Rego.
Spring 1227: Study Rego.
Summer 1227: Teach Sheelagh something.
Winter 1227: Start working on Giant Leap of the Homecoming.

Note that these are her plans. I also expect her to return to the Land of Giants sometime after she learns her Enhanced Curse of Circe so she can actually affect the bloody giants. Also, I expect her to wind up involved in Marós's situation with the parma-wielding giants that have given her (and probably the Hibernian Tribunal) fits. That's in addition to whatever happens with Sheelagh and what not.

My Five-Year Plan for Everyone Else (plot hook/rp bait version)

NOTES FOR VISCARIA:

  • Rather than dedicate entire seasons to the search for her mother when she doesn't have clues and hasn't grabbed at the story seed, let's assume that she's been sending out letters and reading bits of OoH/Merinita Lore in her spare time, with Theraphosa's help. Her sanctum is probably covered in a large Psycho Killer Map of journal pages, drawings, charts, etc with bits of string connecting them all to each other.

  • Any of the Learn Finesse/Spells seasons could be spent on the Finesse adventure that JL has hinted at

  • This list presumes it will only take her one season to craft each category of enchantments.

  • This list presumes that the 1228.1 season will be spent following the path-to-mother story seed

  • Will select Alchemy vis extraction forms after approval and LR details are given

  • Given that she's down to 3 seasons of Finesse Training, and that might get cut down even lower once we see the actual lab texts that she manages to acquire, plans to ReTe Craft the Tribunal field would get nix'd, or someone else would have to do the actual spellwork (she doesn't know about JL's adventure plans, and certainly wouldn't depend on them for the deadline). Conceivably, she might just use her Alchemy to extract Terram vis (3/season), and then do it all with her CrTe ritual.

Cool. I have to adjust his work just a bit. It takes 2 seasons each for the 2 enchantments he adds to his staff. That being the case he'll basically drop the Leadership lessons and move the rest of the activities down:

Editing this as he didn't go to Val Negra

The Tribunal is going to happen in 1227.2.

They have lab texts for temporary housing, so you don't have to invent something from scratch, but it is utilitarian and not beautiful.
Building the baths and the bridge. The bridge needs to be in place by 1226.2, as the Quaesitores will be visiting a year before the Tribunal to make sure everything is in...order. Yeah, that's right, in order.

Viscaria departs briefly to "set something on simmer," and then returns with a pile of ceremonial gear which she begins laying out across Fiona's floor.

"The Miner's Preparatory Glance"
Base 5: Learn all components of a mixture/alloy
+1 Touch, +1 Part, +1 size = InTe 20
Determines the composition of the ground beneath Fiona's cottage.

(OR The Miner's Keen Eye, InTe 20, MRB 153, for the same sort of effect, I suppose)

On the off chance that I roll up, I'll use the extra magnitude to see deeper into the ground.

In 14 + Te 15 + Puissant 3 +Sta 0 + Aura 5 + Artes Liberales 1 + Philosophiae 4 + Die = 42 + Die 3 = 45/2 = 23

In particular, Viscaria is wondering if the extensive cave network beneath Mons Electi runs underneath Fiona's cottage, possibly even including some of those veins of glowing rock which light up her own lab. However, she's also applying her general knowledge of architecture (Prof 2) and stonework (3 +1 fae bonus) to the task.

She'll spend several evenings designing and preparing her plans for the space, to gain the +3 Finesse bonus from HoH:S 62.

If there is a cavern suitable for remodeling, she'll go spelunking until she finds it, and then ceremonially spont some ReTe Craft:Architecture spells to shape the cavern appropriately. If there is no cavern, she'll use Burrowfingers in the same way. She'll ReTe a stairway afterward. We have a Carpenter to make the doors, etc.

I moved this here because it doesn't appear to have anything to do with Sheelagh anymore...

Assuming the 4-8 person labor force does most of that work starting in 1223.2, the permanent structures can be up and ready. She's decided to go with some Circle/Ring spells on pipes with CrIg to heat the water and ReAq to keep it moving. A lever controls the pipe.

Adjusted the spreadsheet to so that the order of operations is more logical.

~shrug~ I'm making an extra floor for Fiona's cottage so Sheelagh can sleep somewhere.

Do you care to adjudicate what's underneath, or are you leaving it up to us as flavor?

Viscaria will have to excavate a basement and include supports, there isn't a cave.
Botches would be bad for Fiona. And I realize why it is being done, but it's mainly for Moire and family while Sheelagh sleeps where her maid servant is...

Some other things that happen:

  • As a gift to the covenant and its magi, for inviting her to become covenant signatory, Viscaria instructs the various Specialists in-covenant (and commissions foriegners, if necessary) to construct various ceremonial ritual props, as per the guidelines in HoH:S, pg 59:

  • A room in Mons Electi filled with large props that are not easily moved, providing a +5 bonus to ceremonial casting, for everyone's use

  • A backpack's worth of specialized ceremonial gear for each magi, which would provide a +2 bonus

  • Given the bounty we've discovered in the Chess Game yielding seasonally instead of yearly, Viscaria suggests soon after the Flambeau chapter that we pay for an additional portal to the Flambeau Domus Magna (Stonehenge or whereever Val Negra is) and keep it open.

  • Theraphosa reaches out to Andru and offers to work with/for him, in an effort to get involved in some worthwhile Intrigue'ing.

  • Theraphosa gives birth to a horde of giant spiders (non-magical), and the covenant sets up a small cottage industry in the regio making spidersilk and finding uses for it (ideally, I'd like this to be Daffyd and Catrin and a few others, just to establish that they've become part of Viscaria's Crewe).

  • As mentioned in the Training Sheelagh thread, when Fiona goes to Durenmar, she carries an "employment contract" from Viscaria to semi-permanently retain a mundane researcher for an ongoing project (figuring out who her mother is). This would involve exploring public records, which are freely available, so I'm not sure how much this would reasonably cost. Com +2 + Bargain 4 + specialty applies +1 = 7 + die 4=11.

Summer of 1227 (I assume that's the .2 right?) is when Alexei is Princeps. SIGH. He will likely have to hold back on any combative contests then and do his duties as host of the games.

Okay, so the spell itself is trivial to cast (CT 28+die).

Base Ease Factor is 9. Say it takes a month for +3, to be a 12. She'll spend Confidence if she needs to.

Her Finesse roll is Per 0 + Finesse 1 + 3 familiarity + Precise Casting 1 + die 1 * die 6 = 6*2 + 5 = 17

Exploder die! Does this mean she can achieve the effect of a 17/19 (with Confidence) on the basement, or is she restricted to the target number she was seeking?

She then sponts the ReTe effect to shape the stairs. Finesse roll, as above 5 + die roll 7 = 12.

This why there is a Vice Princeps (I don't know who this is off the top of the head).

No, he'll play host, he can't just run off storming the castle when he has responsibilities. Though a vice Princeps will be handy.

That's a pretty expensive proposition... A portal requires 7 pawns of ReTe vis +1 pawn of Rego or Terram vis (or any combination getting to 15 pawns), multiply that times two. Maintaining two portals on an annual basis will use all the ReTe vis (6 pawns per portal x2x2) + 3x2x2 pawns of either Rego or Terram vis...

If she can't find one that makes Roman Villas, she'll damn well invent one. She may need to learn the utiliarian versions first. If that's a CrTe 25 or 30, then she'll enlist the aid of the apprentices to help her get her numbers up (which is why I asked to reserve them in the first place).

I didn't realize we were keeping the second one open permanently. Fiona was talking about how she wanted to go to Durenmar before the portal closed up.

On the other hand, a Portal to Stonehenge opens up so many trading/political possibilities that I suspect we'd earn enough to make it worthwhile. But, yes, it is an expensive proposition, and if we start up a Council Thread for these years, she'll bring it up IC.
