Isn't a hundred cubic paces something like 4x5x5? As opposed to a hundred paces cubed, which would be 100x100x100.
Yes, you're right. It doesn't actually matter what the numbers are, she's still making assumptions based on a map, so the finesse rolls still sound like a good idea.
The spell is trying to close off the hallways using ReTe. The Finesse rolls should determine how well that's done. Base 3 very unnatural, with low finesse rolls, I'm guessing it's about like trying to pinch pasta around the cheese stuffing.
Oh, and sigil effects -- the area affected by her spells becomes slightly more habitable for lichens and mosses. In some places, a flowering sticky-catchfly may grow out of a crack.
Isen will take point. With Alexei absent, it's his duty to protect his sodales and take the brunt of any attack upon them
The side tunnels are brought down with ease, although the last one has created a partial obstruction of the way back out. It's not impassable, but does require the group to climb over rubble in single file, or some other action dealing with the rubble.
There is no aura noticeable as the party enters the cave system.
However, as they round a bend the party is confronted with what appears to be a storage room, a most gruesome storehouse. There are several cages along the walls with people inside, some alive, some not. There are numerous amphora, that appear to be bloodstained, hinting at their contents. There are even a few body parts, arms, legs, and a headless torso strewn about the room. There is a workbench with a corpse tied to it. There is a door on the otherside of the storehouse.
((Future rolls for spells will have a modifier))
Carmine indicates that the party has to go through the door.
Grogs should make bravery/loyalty checks, as the scene is something well outside of anyone's experience. Battlefield carnage is different than this. It's planned, it's methodica, it's sadistic and horrific without apparent reason.
Not sure what the target is.
Claude is Brave +3 and Loyal +2 1d10=5
Viscaria: Brave -2 + die roll 7 = 5
Vin Diesel: Brave +3 + die roll 5 = 8
Vin will spend a Confidence point if necessary. For the sheer joy of RP, Viscaria will stick with her roll as is, unless the SG strongly advises otherwise.
The ease factor isn't too great, there are a large number of magi here, so the grogs do feel safe, but, mainly looking for botches...
Brione is still here, and I believe there are a few others that need to be rolled. It is only grogs, magi are a bit more mentally prepared for supernatural events.
Isen is horrified and enraged by what he sees, although he still thinks clearly (brave total of 8)
God!!
This is... the kind of infernal dealing I hoped to never see again.
He crosses himself
I'll hold the entrances with a few grogs. You should liberate any living captive, and have them flee though the tunnel. Make sure they aren't under the creatures's domination before. But I won't leave anyone here.
We should destroy and burn this room, too. Don't let them enjoy the... spoils of their crualty
Viscaria grunts a wordless noise of approval at Isen's suggestion, her eyes unable to leave the horrors of the room.
The twisted Grog Brionne steals his stomach against the ghastly sight. He'd seen some terrible things before.
"Mon Dieu..." he murmurs and then crosses himself. Turning to the nearest magus (Isen) he says in French. "Who shall go in Master?" he lisps with his cleft palate. "I can stay with you and hold the entrance if you should like or I can go in to rescue." He has out the gleaming sword and shield that Alexei had said were made by a Verditius smith.
((Brave roll fro Brione))
1d10+3 → [7,3] = (10) 10

Setting the room on fire will require alternative means of egress. Carmine is more than capable of doing this.
Hum... Okay... Are the living liberated? send down the corridor to find their freedom?
If this is done, carmine should creo ignem all of this, and we should go on...
In my mind the people still alive will be about like prisoners who've been incarcerated for a long time, without adequate food or water. They've also been subjected to multiple horrors, either directly or witnessing them. When their cells are open, they don't know quite what to do.
Claude begins to grumble. "Ye see. they forget the task at hand and fall for the oldest trick in the book. Diversionary tactics when we should be pushin' through. These mag will get me killed. Where is that dragon?"
"He's covering the rear. There are numerous vampires on this island, and not all of them are within the cave system." Carmine whispers tersely.
I don't have time for this, grumples Isen, as he takes bold steps to the cages, and removes the people from the cages. He'll be firm, not particularly gentle, although he'll take care not to hurt them. Too much, that is. Better alive with a broken arm that dead, in his opinion.
IF claude spoke in latin, Hiems will scold him, while helping people out
Then shut up and help me, instead of doing nothing like everyone here! But if we live them here, we are not worthy to be called men
If not, then, unless it's german-derived, he doesn't understand a word
Claude speaks everything in French. Unless ordered, he will not help with the prisoners.
So he'll not help
But every person present will surely drop a notch in Isen's opinion afterwards, as they visibly don't care about the victims, and (in his opinion) their inaction caused the group to lose some time.
Well, amul has Viscaria and Vin.
Qcipher has Brionne...
Those are two people with characters who are yet to chime in.
I'm not imposing a penalty on inaction here. I will even stay Isen's action of opening the cages if players want to have a discussion on how best to proceed. Carmine will act at the consensus of the players, so if you tell her to fire the room and everyone says do it, it'll happen. Whether prisoners are in it or not is immaterial; there's a reason she's still a Flambeau and handles matters of "unseemly violence" for Valnastium...
