1222.3 Race for the Pennant

I'm more than willing to revisit that part. That's the one thing that pbp playing can do, is go back and allow someone to add commentary later on.

Thanks, but don't bother, it would just get buried again
Moreso, it would have probably been kind of a pissing contest which, while fun, to watch, is not very interesting.

Jacques will be the last through the ME portal to Harco.

Everyone makes their way to the portal to Castra Solis. There is a member of House Flambeau there, along with a Redcap. Everyone gets through without incident, and upon arrival at Castra Solis everyone is escorted to a large field a few miles away. It's setup for contests such as the Dimicatio and Wizard's Melee. Tristan says, "Ordinarily, I'd say compete, but it is a risky endeavor to enter the competition now. I would expect some of our less honorable house mates to 'accidentally' injure their opponents."

((Note, since the portal is in place, traveling with a full complement of grogs is possible. Mufarjj may also come along if Alexei wishes.))

((Alexei would bring Mufarrj and Brionne definitely. I'd like to use Michel, but I think he'd lose it and kill someone))

Alexei nods in agreement. "Aye, we're not here for games either. Should we find Ariel and declare our intent? Or leave that til the voting begins? I fear that even if we want to be discreet it shall get out soon enough." Alexei observes as he sees the Flambeau they brought.

Alexei is going to keep an eye out for Lucius but not seek him out.

Jacques will mix with the crowd and try to gauge mood and interest. Who and what is being talked about. If questioned, he will talk about Guarus' legacy (but not commit to one magus or another) and see who is interested in continuing it and who dismisses it. He will be meeting many people as he has not gone to many ( if any) of the Flamebeau meetings.

Anyone doing politicking should make some relevant ability rolls. I'll leave it as an exercise to the player as to what that roll might be. Bargaining, Intrigue, Guile, Folk Ken are all good choices. Intrigue and Bargain are probably best. .

Alexei will wander and kabitz, trying to gauge the political landscape and see who's interested in voting for whom as well as picking up any tidbits about Garus and Valerian.

Intrigue (Hermetic) + Presence (or Communication, they are the same score)
1d10+3 → [1,3] = (4) Woohoo exploder!

Exploder die
1d10 → [4] = (4) double = 8+3 11

No one is talking about Valerian or Garus. Scuttlebutt seems to be everyone would be choosing Lucius by acclimation. No one has mentioned anything about a serious contender. Ariel hasn't arrived, either.

((does it seem like Lucius is the choice simply because no one else is? Lucius is in the MIlites right?))

Kinda seems that way...

Word spreads that the Stonehenge contingent has finally arrived, well before they make their appearance.

An old, severe-faced man leads them, dressed in black robes, wearing a longsword at the waist and a heater shield upon the back. There is a gorgeous woman in a simple dress of blue silk, her flaxen hair clasped at the nape of her neck, allowing easy access to the claymore strapped to her back. The rear is brought up by a tall man who can only be a miles: dressed in gleaming bronze chainmail, wearing two longswords sheathed at the waist, and with a halo of outrageous black curls, tempered only by the yarmulke perched precariously upon his crown.

They mingle, which is to say that the eldest of them stands in a corner scowling furiously, while the woman mingles and makes polite small talk, and the Jew lurks a few steps behind her with his hands hovering a few inches over his swordhilts, as if expecting trouble.

Isen is far from happy. Not due to tristan's words, but to that whole story, and to the fact that there's traitors inside the house, traitors what were complicit in Garus murder, traitors that sought to fool and use Alexei and he.

On the other hand, it might be a good idea to try to find a way to remove lucius from the equation. :imp:

Following his sodales, Isen will just become more and more sullen at hearing this. Should someone ask him his opinion, he's susceptible to voice it briefly and clearly, but otherwise, he's just not the type to chit chat and make nice over this. He'll have a hard time when alexei does this, and will take some distance, although he won't get far: He's too conscious of the danger for that.

((I'm going to take a guess: Talion, the old man, Ariel the woman. If the one is a Miles, does Alexei know him or at least his name?))

Alexei gives Tristan a gentle nudge. "Stonehenge..." he appraises the group. Talion bore quite a reputation and not all of it honourable. "Do you think Ariel will be aurprised by our support?"

((No, because Alexei's lore...))

"Surprised? Perhaps. I have some word that she can expect pretty broad support from Stonhenge, Caledonia and Hibernia."

Alexei is going to approach the Stonehenge contingent, not cautiously but professionally and with courtesy. When he reaches them he will offer a saulte, bringing the spear across his chest and nodding.

"Salvete." he says. "I am glad to see you, I am Alexei Von Kroitsau, filius of Tristan." he repeats his salute for each member, the last one he salutes being the Miles. "My Sodali...may I speak with you briefly?" he asks to the armoured Jewish Mile.

The old man in the corner scowls and says nothing.

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, sodalis," the woman replies. "I am Ariel filia Thoros scholae Flambonis." She gives him a devastating smile, while still listening politely to a tale being told by some Spanish magus.

The muscular miles nods. "Seems a strange question, given that you must do the very thing for which you request permission, in order to ask permission," he muses enigmatically.

Alexei smiles at Ariel, but for politeness says nothing more to interrupt her conversation.

He offers his hand to the man to lead him some steps away from the group. "I enjoy musing as well my friend, when business has not killed my mirth." he leans in close to whisper. "Garus's death...what do you know of it? The Horn was not blown yet I heard he was slain. How were we not summoned?." he pauses and looks at him. "I am not accusing you of course." he adds quickly, suddenly realizing how he might sound. "I just wish to hear from another Milites what he knows of this business, his thoughts."

The martial magus eyes Alexei's proffered hand with a look of practised amusement. "Apologies, friend, but I am a wedded man, and I expect Elisheva would demand a gett if I held your hand. Regardless, you will have to pardon my caution, but you must understand my unwillingness to follow about and speak privately with someone I know neither by name, face, nor reputation. Discretion is, after all, the greater part of valor." He remains steadfastly a few paces from Ariel, and eyes Alexei warily; he does not follow Alexei away, so you'll have to let me know whether you're going to try and whisper in his ear right where he stands.

Alexei eyes him strangely, not knowing what a gett was. Hearing his answer he sighs..."I understand...I thought our mutual membership transcended such worries. But you're right, I am glad nonetheless that you are here." he nods as he walks away. Alexei will then meander through the crowds and watch the fetsivities and contests.
