4th edition was "Story XP", which were a completely separate source that did not interfere with normal seasonal sources (other than being a distraction if it took too much time).
Every F2F game of Ars 5th I have played in has allowed some variation of adventure XP to be taken with normal seasonal activity. Most commonly by counting time on adventures as a distraction, the same way it was in 4th. This is one of the changes from 4th to 5th that I really dislike.
