Breaking off from the other topic, but the rules for Significatos seem a bit poorly thought out and described in Covenants. There are a few obvious typos and references to forming a lab total for Vis Study (which is not how Vis study works).
The examples are also quite niche.
So here's an idea:
There are three types of Significatos:
- Momentary (instances that happen only once or very irregularly, such as the hatching of a dragon egg, the ritualised death of an ancient Giant or the rebirth of a phoenix)
- Recurring (incidents that happen on a regular usually annual basis, which often form the basis of a Vis Source, e.g. witnessing a particularly ancient rite, an annual contest between magical beings or finding the first autumn leaf of the year in a whole forest).
- Situational (incidents that happen every time a specific action is undertaken, e.g. when Vis is expended as part of a study or when a magical animal is ritually sacrificed).
Momentary events are the focus of a story as they almost never take place near areas of human activity and it can take a long time to wait for the expected moment. They award exp which can be split between one or two arts relevant to the event instead of adventure exp.
Exp gained = Stress die + aura + (might of the most powerful being involved/5)
This can be useful to magi of almost any level. This can be significant as powerful beings tend to inhabit potent auras.
Recurring Significatos grant only one type experience and can only be studied once by any given visitor. This option becomes unavailable if harvested for Vis.
Exp gained = Stress die + aura
Situational Significatos always expends Vis of some sort even if the vis remains in the body of the sacrifice. This behaves exactly as studying from Vis.
All of the above take a full season.
Any thoughts about this as an idea?
