Chapter 1a: Unloading

After inquiring a few times with different people in the market, the women find out that there are numerous small boarding houses in town, as well as individuals house-owners who will host a person or two. None of the places described, however, seem to have space for such a large party. Except for one, perhaps, which is described as catering to the needs of the more wealthy merchants passing through Helgeland but quite expensive.

So it seems to be a choice between splitting up amongst multiple boarding houses, or paying a large sum for upscale lodging.

(There is also the warehouse where you are storing your supplies. It has ample space, but the women barely spent a few minutes there. That might do for the sailors, perhaps.)

The women decide to return to the warehouse to present the options to the magi. They think that the magi might want the upscaled location, with a few servants, but that some of them will have to stay in the warehouse.

Let the sailors stay in the warehouse and from there they will also have some watch over the boats.
We still need room for 12 people if the magi and their respective two main grogs should stay together. That can be quite expensive if they all stay at the main boarding house. Japik is used to spending nights in the water as dolphin so he doesn't really need any lodging. Yulia and Hjalmar could then stay with the sailors in the warehouse.

He's done that occasionally, but he knows that isn't necessarily safe. Dolphins do that as a pod, so it's easier to keep watch for dangers (like sharks), but a lone dolphin would be quite vulnerable doing that. Over the long term (for weeks or months), he would be better sleeping as a human.
