Characters development discussions

I am glad my magus is very boring.

I'm mostly trying to figure out what order of meddling would warrant an Enemies flaw, something Angela would hate, something that's personal. Maybe I overshot a little...

Perhaps, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Players who take Enemies usually put the blame wholly on their Enemies. But life is much more nuanced. What you described may be how Angela saw things happening, while Basilus' intent was completely different. Or he may actually be a d!ck. Or maybe his ethics are weak when his Driven flaw kicks in.

As I suggested, there may be reasons why the others would still accept your magus. One may be that they had little choice in the matter. All of it shapes the saga and future stories!

So what does everyone say, is Basilus free to stay at the new covenant? I promise he had good intentions with Angela, it just didn't work out (and like Arthur said, sometimes he couldn't help himself)

His character details as of now, ignoring crunch for the moment

I driven meddler who has pissed off other magi. :flushed: My guess is he will have to pick one of us to "Make our lives better". My companion may be an assassin

I am sure he is forced on us to get him out of what ever covenant he is currently living.

So with the information provided in the link, would Basilus have the Infamous Flaw, or will he be spared? It's up to you.

Seems fitting. Isn't that roughly why we said we're all here? Get these annoying, idealistic, young magi out of the way...

I worry about a player making a character that is meant to annoy/bother/harass another player. In my experience, those never end well.

Meddler is only an excuse to drive Basilus out of the lab. I'll be completely fine with some other excuse, I just don't see one right now.

If only Meddler, maybe but basically driven to meddle could be a real problem if you RP the flaws.

Everything Basilus does is ultimately up to the troupe's decision. If you feel like any of his announced actions would be pushing things too far, I'll be happy to change it for your benefit.

I am all about playing the character you want but this particular set of flaws will lead to problems. Especially that you have said in his background that he will ignore the oath to "help" another magus. That makes me believe that he would ignore certamen and then lead to a wizard's war.

Like I said I'll be fine with replacing this with some other Flaw that makes him get out of lab.

Can you replace driven with something else? I think we can handle just a meddler.

Sure, I can change it to Ambitious, Busybody or Obsessed. I could also change it to Ambitious&Busybody instead of Driven&Meddler. What do you think?

That would work better. What does he want to be Ambitious about?

Research of course. He wants to change the Order for the better and become an archmagus by making some grand discovery.

Stuff with Angela might have been his younger unhinged years, from which he grew out of.

You may also want to go back to Infamous Master instead of himself being Infamous. This would be because his master had questionable ethics regarding research, leading to Basilus clumsily replicating his behaviour, resulting in the incidents with Angela. It results in a less severe reputation in this, and better acceptance in the covenant (they gave you benefit of doubt).

Over time, exposure to the other Bonisagi of your covenant will lead him to realize just how wrong his own master was in that regard, but that process has already begun when the saga start. Some strong words from Primus of Bonisagus (Avarret) once Basilus has completed his Gauntlet was a severe shock.

Thank you, I've noted it down. I'll definitely swap back to Infamous Master.

This is the final backstory page, unless something else needs altering.

And link to the crunch, just to be on a safer side

Look good.

Minor comment, I think you misunderstand what negative scores in a Personality Trait mean. A negative score means that this trait is present in below average strength in your character. So Envious -2 means he has very little tendency to be envious, less than the average person.

So Basilus should have Meddler +3 instead of Meddler -3. Same applies to some of the personality traits for Angela (Envious, Vengeful) and perhaps Homer (Mad).

Note that Rivalry doesn't sound like a personality trait. Perhaps reformulate it to something like Competitive, Conflictual, Envious or Vindictive. Or turn it around to a negative score in something like Gracious Loser or Charitable.
