City and Guild: Bills of Lading Project

Early December, by the looks of things.

...and in news: I've moved the blog over to Beta Blogger, which means now you don't need to be a blogger member to comment.

(Got a link?)

Quoth the Cuchulainshound, nevermore:

Got a link?

mythicstorytelling.blogspot.com

It's the same company, Blooder, jus ttheir newer versions, which lets me swtich off the "must be registered to post" thing.

Time to come to the party with questions, people.

¨

Will do. Have to pack the bags and rent a tux, but then I will be right over. Thx for the invitation!

So anyone want to help out Timothy in his commendable blog project?

Already there.. in a less furious guise 8)

The only question I can come up with without having seen the book is "How hard is it to get glass lab equipment for my lab in [insert far away place]?"

Wish I had something more erudite....

Rich

It is mentioned in Covenants , page 51

So , no matter where it comes from , it will probably be very expensive.
Your Covenant might want to invest in a Master Glassmaker.

Ah, but that begs the question "How hard is it to find a Master Glassmaker in my local town?"

I've had 'procurement' characters in the past go shanghai whatever specialist was needed (to the detriment of the covenant) but we never really considered how hard it was to even find such specialist. It was more a handwaved thing, "You take a couple of weeks and troop down to the local big city and after whacking the really good [insert specialist] on the head, we've now got a specialist."

But what I was looking for was more "I want that special stuff from Venice (or wherever). I'd expect my special glass thingy to be expensive but can I even get it locally? Certainly not everything is available everywhere so how far do I have to go to even find it?"

Again, this could all be in C&G. That was about the best I could do without seeing it.

Rich

Glassmakers are listed on page 01 of the preview pdf.
Hopefully this will include where the major glassmakers are.

Commercial Sources of Tradegoods on page 02.

All good stuff, but I think asking further questions would make Timothy's blog really get going as C&G is due out shortly IIRC. He's offerred to write a piece a day remember, and any starting questions would help get the ball rolling.

Cheers,

Jarkman

True, though nothing has been happenig there for a long while. I guess the deep calm before the plunge perchance... But a real challenge is that several of us will not get the C&G in the near future - I know it takes times for the books to cross the Atlantic and on top of that I will not order it untill I can get the AM in the same shipment to save some of the growing expenses on order books in small batches from the US. And as a sidenote, I know that personally I for one will get busy with AM before reading the C&G. In short - it wil take some time before qualified and reasonable questions will be asked by some of us.

I do however think it is a great project and that Timothy deserves kudos and backing for it, but for now only 6 of us have even posted a comment there.

I'm going to wait until I 've got the book in my fingers to ask a question about it. (my store did not have it yesterday).

Do you then put them under a mentum effect, or do you just trust them not to introduce subtle weaknesses into whatever project you have kidnapped them to work on? "This? Oh it should work wonderfully when heated with a boiling solution of aqua regio. You just need to stand over it to get the proper liquid level reading. (muttersTeach them to steal me away from home.)" And if he ever escaped? Wow, the Church/Nobles/Guilds/Order would have a field day with that, at least in our saga.

I would think that holding a specialist hostage is the least effective way of adding to the skillset of the covenant. Why not bribe them? Or offer them a longevity ritual? Get a student to go study under the specialist? See if he has a disgruntled apprentice that feels held back?

Shanghai'ing them just seems counterproductive, unless they didn't want to be where they were in the first place.

-Ben.

Offering them a longevity potion if they take it is a win-win offer, although you must be prepared to offer one to their wife too. And then, of course other specialists of yours may ask for the same. Then mundanes in general who may learn you have the Elixir of Life and may sneak into the Covenant to steal it...

So much story potential. :stuck_out_tongue:

I live in Australia.

Things take at least 2 weeks to get here usually.

Usually the spoilers on the Berklist and here are complete torture for that period of time if I'm not actually busy with work...

I've submitted 2 questions because I really want to encourage Timothy to do this blog as I think it's an excellent idea to support this particular release.

Fair enough - this split shipment surprise is a bit of a pain I agree, but I have great difficulty accessing my FLGS unfortunately so I'll lump it.

As to the delay - he probably needs just half a dozen or so questions to get him going in advance and then hopefully the momentum will build from there, particularly if US Ars fans start throwing questions (hint, hint...)

True, but as I pointed out before, this thread actually generated several comments and perhaps could be linked to via the blog front page.

Regards,

Jarkman

If only my FLGS in Sydney could get Ars Magica books in 02 weeks. :frowning:
I placed an order for 02 books over two months ago
and pre-ordered City & Guild (or so i had thought).
ROP : The Infernal will be here in 01 week , but TMRe still has no definite shipping date.
As for City & Guild , who knows.
I will now be ordering from Amazon instead.

And actuallly I will not be working much in January - trying to get back at doing a couple of papers at university - so the new books will be a unavoidable distraction even if I am looking forward to them very much.

I was just stating that it might be a challenge that there might be some time before many of us have the book and can ask informed questions based on it. I agree Timothy should be supported and I have posted 2 inquiries aswell, though I do not know if they have been adopted.

Yeah, and because of import tolls the last times I've ordered directly from Warehouse 23 I have had to pay taxes, then fees on top for the administrative cost of billing me and then taxes on those too :frowning: . So basicalle this time I will have to wait till a retailer in Europe have both new books and then order them (within the EU I will not be taxed, then billed and taxed again). But that will all result in the more time for my to fight the withdrawal symptoms... :imp:

Aye! Hear ye! Hear ye!
