Discovery

While going through the discovery rules, and the limits of Hermetic Magic, a question arose:
You have an item (non-hermetic) that has a power that violates the Limits. You wish to duplicate this effect and turn it into a spell, or learn how it was put into the item.

Can you learn from this item? Does this accumulate points towards a breakthrough?
The investigation rules only say that you can learn how the power functions...
I haven't seen any rules that address this...

I don't believe there are any rules that cover this.

Personally, I would let the player treat the power as a Lab Text of a stabilized discovery of the power's level. Except that maybe I'll add a chance to gain warping as per Stabilization. But that's just an ad hoc house rule, I don't know any official rules on this.
