Halls Beneath the Earth

Acacius draws the short straw when the magi draw straw for lab choosing. I guess I’ll get the lab at the bottom then… Do you my soldaes think that there will be space to set up a lab outside if I will feel the need too?

OOC: Roll of 1… invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2366681/

Siobhan draws one of the longer straws but doesn't know if it will be the longest.

OOC can we have a summary of what labs there are (their size and floor), just a listed: Floor 1, back room, Size 0 sort of thing.

Roll is 8: invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2367126/

1st Landing: 1 lab, plus kitchen and dining area.

2nd Landing: Library, Barracks, 2 labs

3rd Landing: 2 labs, 1 lab that collapsed (can it be recovered?)

4th Landing: 2 adjoining chambers connected by a double door, 1 lab

Every chamber is large enough to act as a lab, none of the rooms are so large or small to provide alternate size distinctions, though I am willing to allow a magus who might take one and develop that room to take Merits or Flaws regarding that.

I should also note that Agitatus has stated that he will have a lab built for him up top. And Rhodri volunteered to take the lab on the bottom floor, unless that is desired by others, in which case he'll draw with everyone. Basically though I'm volunteering that Rhodri can have last pick. If you want to have an honest shot, here's his draw:

1d10 → [7] = (7) invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2367515/

Siobhan seeming to have one of the longest straws speaks softly, "I would like one on the floor with the library. The one nearest the library actually." She is already considering what features and focuses she might want for her lab. It is a heady feeling to know she can have her lab customized. She wants a lab with enough room that there can eventually be small Ante chamber and bedroom.

Rhodri waves away the offered lots. "No, I shall pick last if at all, decide how you will for the labs, I'll choose from what remains." He turns to Acacius. "Would you want a lab outside? Why? There is plenty of space, and we can likely even open that collapsed corridor."

If you want to make some changes or customizations in the lab created you have two options. If you cast the spell yourself, you'll make an Int+Finesse roll. If you have Maximianus or Agitatus make it, you make a Communications+Magic Theory roll (non-stress) and then the caster will make the Finesse roll. As this is Creo, a poor Finesse roll is more likely to make the lab equipment ugly rather than poorly crafted. A botch is bad though. You can possibly cast the spell yourself, it is rather difficult though.

If you insist that Rhodri pick I've already rolled for his choice.

OOC: I am assuming all these labs will have spotless, Flawless tools and Flawless equipment from the spell. Also the free virtue superior construction and free flaw Subterrainean. This just leaves what would Communication/magic theory tn be for adding a major feature/major focus (orb). (Siobhan's base roll is 6+die, 9+die with confidence)

I just wish to have my lab close to my herb garden that is outside. I guess that I will get a lab close to the bottom as I drew the short straw. Perhaps it will not be much of a walk after all. Just pondering about my options. I would like to have a a fair amount of space so I can later add plants and such. I would also like to have something about the laboratory’s aesthetics… I will try to convey my desires to the magus who casts the spell.

OOC: As much size as possible and well furnished lab. MT 3 + Com. +2 + 4 dice = 9 invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2370403/

That's almost correct. The labs will be the same as indicated in the Covenants book. Additional virtues and flaws, whether free or not, have to come from work done in the lab. The start of which might be this individual attention to detail. This detail is mostly about the layout of the lab and can't create or impose any differences on it. I'm doing this because we're skirting the standard rules quite a bit by the creation of the labs in this fashion. The additional season of time you spend getting to know these labs comes from the fact that they are not your standard lab once created.

Rhodri turns to Acacius, "I'm fine with taking your lot Sodales so you can have a lab closer to the top if you'd like."

I would like a lab close to the top but as I drew the short straw I will take what is left to me. Acacius pause for a moment. There is one thing that I would like however and that is a a extra pair of hands in the garden. I am not ready to undertake an apprentice but some able young man or woman should fit for the task. Could we support one and how should I go about to employ such help. I fear that some may have their doubt about working close to a magus.

"Unless you are going to be growing something very odd, I suspect the women of the clan would gladly help with the garden. They will grow vegetables and some spices and healing herbs for food and folk remedies and such. They will likely get their daughters to assist them. So unless there is something really odd, that you have to tend yourself, I doubt you will lack for hands or even need to do much at all. As for wanting the lab up top, so far no one has claimed the upper most lab. There is also another on the library level for you to claim so go ahead and claim one of them if you want." Siobhan is practical after all.

"Well Siobhan has the first choice and she has made it. I have the second choice, and I prefer the lower lab anyway. So I shall make it easier for you Sodales. I will make a lab on the lowest floor."

Kerry, I need you to post and make a draw by tomorrow 1/15 or we'll have determined that you drew the worst lot and pick your lab last.

Bjorn looks around at his fellow magi, then slowly gets up to pick a straw. Shrugging, he sets his straw on the table for everyone to see. "I think I would prefer the third landing. From the layout, it looks like the other three will be rather busy, and the last thing I'd want would be an interruption at a critical moment." He grins as he looks about. "Guess we didn't need to draw straws after all. You still taking the basement, Rhod?"

1d10 = 7 invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2373676/

Rhodri scowls slightly and raises an eyebrow at the name. "Yes, for the same reasons really. I'll be doing a lot of research, and casual interuptions would be best avoided. Very well! I think we're set for now. Tomorrow we'll start getting the spell cast and the labs created. Make sure to have any plans ready for Masters Maxximianus and Agitatus, as they will likely be the ones casting it. If you'd like to cast it yourself, feel free though. It could be a good experience." Rhodri quaffs the last of his ale and puts the mug down.

"I'm off to get some sleep, though I doubt I'll get much." Rhodri is practically giddy. "I'm so excited!" he walks off towards one of the tarps that have a circle of warmth around it, his steps slightly off center from the drinking.

I'll start the next thread tomorrow with the creation of the labs. Feel free to continue posting here in the meanwhile.

"I most definately would like them to cast it. I would likely mess the spell up and not get it right if I cast it right now. The spell is most definately not my strong area." Siobhan says softly.

OOC spell to convey how I want my lab to the one casting the spell: Base 6, 5 on the roll and this is important enough to use confidence even if I don't know when I will get more points: so totel of 14.
