Help Needed: Magi focused group

Agents played by the same player as the magus and built to be part of their 'team' make for fantastic grogs. If your players are used to this concept from V:tM, go ahead and let them have grogs that fill a similar role.

Companions are, in my experience, more something for when the players start wanting to leave their magi at home. As long as they don't, running with just magi and grogs is all fine. Otherwise you run the risk of having a companion character (story flaws and all) whom the -player- doesn't especially want to play. Grogs not having story flaws is actually an advantage in this case: it keeps the camera focused primarily on the main characters of the story.

Lol, ok that is quite understandable.

But gah... Cr30, that´s 252XP minimum and up to 465... That character would have had lots problems i think... Specialisation can be good, but going too far...

Sounds reasonable.

For Summae i use (Teaching+Art.Lib.+Philosophiae/4 round up) as a bonus to Q (teaching is obvious, Art.L. because it should allow you to write better in a technical sense and Ph. because of how it allows a better frame of reference).
I also use Greater Summae/Tractatus, which takes twice the time to write, but adds Ability/2 or Art/5 to Q.

I find that the trick is for the players to make up companion characters that are designed specifically to be involved with another player's magus.

That's how I do it, as well.
