I wonder what source you're talking about?
Hi,
I sort of read the canonical rules the same way, though my reading might be less than canonical.
(In my house rules, Hermetic Magic cannot distinguish one realm from another, but only discern power and the effects of an Aura upon Hermetic magic.
(One consequence of this rule is that "Demon's Eternal Oblivion" will work on any entity with a Might Score. Some Flambeau use this spell to decide whether something is a demon...
("It only looks like his ghost. If it croaks like a demon, it's a demon."
(Most Merinita are less than pleased with this attitude, but this is also the only way Quaesitors can detect demons....)
Anyway,
Ken
Interesting theme.
How will the magi know if a sodalis reaches immortality or becomes a fae?
Will you cast a spell on him to reveal his state?
No, you won't because if his transformation is only a gossip you violate the code.
Will he speak about his new state if he loses the protection of the code?
No, he's not stupid.
A guy has a creative saga with a rat magus. If this magus is smart enough he changes himself into a human when meeting with sodales outside the covenant. If he states he is human will you cast a spell on him to investigate? No.
If a maga changes into a ghost and use a spell to create an illusion or real form for herself and look fully as a human, will your sodales cast spells on her to determine what she is? No.
So if you are clever you can be anything and living in the magical society.
I think if the membership and protection is not written clearly in the code this is not a player issue but the magi themselves will debate and vote if these particular forms of existence are protected or not. So politics does matter a lot.
