level three spells for you edification and coment

If there's no more comments I'll paste them over to the spells wiki.

Very cool idea, excellent execution!

Captured Footprint

Shouldn't a spell that affects part of something be target: part?

(and thus this would be a lvl 4 spell)

Sure, that's why I made effort to specify Individual quantities of dirt in the spell description

"If dirt walls can be separated into individual sized sections"
"the dirt floor of a hovel"

upon rereading, I wasn't sufficently clear when I mentioned dirt soft enough to recieve a footprint. I meant to imply the inside of a hovel.

An individual quantity of dirt is big (ten cubic yards) the difficulty is in defineing it differently than the earth as a whole.

I think your spells are awesome and that your crazy!

Now for the level 100 spells , huzzah!

Yair already did those, check the spells wikki

I just gotta say, this list of minor spells is tremendous Erik, all the spells are really cool. This is a sort of thing that gives new dimensions to the game, a really god idea and a great job! I love it!
THanks!

This might work on a (very) small hill, but most dirt is part of the dirt around it... Hmm - maybe it'll work on the dirt covering a stone floor?

A list of 3.level spells is really neat, and actually very usefull.
Now, how about an other usefull list?
For "junior magi" the effective level for making spells on their own in one season is about 10-15, isn't it? Some young magi can manage tremendous lab totals in one combination of arts, but I like to not considder the extreeme cases. So lab totals of 20-30 is about the limit for most junior magi I think.
So, [Old jovial Archmage] to encurage the young ones to spend more time in the lab, we should design rootes for interesting spells they could make[/Old jovial Archmage]
A list of 10-15 level would be a laudable project. Those are spells which are usefull both for sponting and lab work. And with the new MR-penetration rules, low level spells are much more useful. And I think we actually need much more of them than currently is listed.

I would dispute this, and other similar effects on two grounds:

  • Examples in the core book that use Range X instead of Vision target also use a specific Target, which is whatever you are sensing: with this spell, as written you would be able to look only at yourself, which is handy for grooming, but little else. Ref: Prying Eyes, Summoning the Distant Image.

  • Balance: From prior experience in other games, trivalizing out-of-body-sight is a huge pain. It doesn't need abuse to make it a pain, sensible use on the part of players is enough to make it nasty.

My version (not level 3, no), combines Vision target to allow you to see anything, not just a single target, and uses the range to move the sight.
A level 3 version of peeking from your fingertip is seems sensible to me, but I'm not sure how to justify dropping the Vision target in that case.

Sight from Afar
InIm, Level 25
R: Sight, D: Conc, T: Vision

Caster moves moves his viewpoint to any point he can see, from where
he can then observe in any direction.

(Base 1, +3 Sight, +4 Vision, +1 Concentration)

A cheapter alternative, without the Vision target:

Farsight
InIm, Level 5
R: Sight, D: Conc, T: Ind

Caster can observe a single target he can see as if he was standing close by, from any direction. Things in the immediate vicinity of the target are visible only as blurry outlines, and anything at any distance from the target cannot be viewed at all.

(Base 1, +3 Sight, +1 Concentration)

Actually, now that I think of it, requiring Vision for the first version is the only thing that makes sense, because if you do not do it, then the second one (that is much weaker) cannot sensibly be made cheaper!

Dug up from the cobwebby depths of last January.

Having played an iontellego specialist magus I can vouch for how this could cause balance problems. I checked out the spells you site and they do seem to have your interpretation(whenI made this list I did it by looking at the guidelines and only refrencing spells occasionally.

For a level three spell:

!! Rocket from the Sockets.
InIm 3
R:Voice, D: Momentary, T: Individual
The caster takes a single look at any view of a target within the range of the spell. Examlples of use include seeing what a susspicious monk is holding behind his back or getting a fleeting glimpse of a paper that someone else is reading.

I'll make a change on the wiki if this doesn't provoke any objecitons
