Life-Linked Spontanous Magic and Chaotic Magic?

How would Life-Linked Spontanous Magic and Chaotic Magic work together? Both makes you decide the level of a spontanous spell before casting it, so how would this work?
Would the magus need to burn fatigue to avoid the chaotic effect if it's below the level? If it falls above the target level, the result would be chaotic in any case. But if the total rolled were, say, 5 under what was needed, could he spend a fatigue to avoid the chaotic effect?
Any suggestions?

One of my players has Life-Linked Spontaneous Magic and Chaotic Magic. When he wants to use spontaneous magic, he first chooses the target level and says if he will use Life-Linked Spontaneous Magic, then roll as usual.

If he gets a lower casting score and he announced he will use Life-Linked Spontaneous Magic, then he must use fatigue to increase its casting score to the correct level.
If he gets a lower casting score and he did not announced he will use Life-Linked Spontaneous Magic, then the effect is chaotic.

If he gets a higher casting score then the effect is chaotic.

Hi,

This seems right. Note that Chaotic Magic applies to non-fatiguing sponts too.

Anyway,
