what would a guideline be to change an elemental type spell into another element?

Like pilam of fire into torrent of water/pilam of ice / javelin of earth.

various uses would be to change a damage type because what your fighting could apear to be immune.
change an incoming spell into an elemental type that you have an immunity / ward against / or a mastered spell resistance against.

I would definitely think there would need to be separate spells for each elemental form.

Check the MuVi guidelines on page 159. I think the third guideline (it's a bit long so I won't quote it) is the one you need.
