Why can I not find this?
Do Dominion/Faerie/Infernal auras affect enchantments already invested? I can see that they may affect Penetration (like a magical creature) but does it alter the Effect?

I don't think so. I think you can't find anything because devices are basically automatic. They always work and don't fail. Can the effect fail to do damage or take effect because of MR? Sure. But the device does function, just the effect is harmless or insufficient to overcome MR.
Sorry for the Necromancy, but had a follow-up question and this was a pretty short, and to the point, thread and wanted to collect the response here.
As said above, the Realm Interaction Chart has no info on Enchanted Items, and I think that Johnathan was right in that they are generally not affected (like Powers).
What about Penetration? The chart goes out of its way to talk about creature powers which do not require a roll (like enchanted items) get a bonus/penalty to penetration, and it seems like it may follow that Items also get a penetration bonus.
some of this bonus woudl be off-set by the Arua MR increase, however, it would mean trying to walk into an infernal aura and punish the demon living there (while using your enchanted PeVi staff) would need to take into account BOTH its improved MR and the enchanted item's loss of penetration power.
Thanks!
No apology needed sodalis - the Code has no restrictions against necromancy.
That's exactly how I read it.
I have a staff, enchanted DEO level 15 penetration 30. Magically aligned, ofcourse, as my magic is entirely Hermetic.
Should I find myself in a level 5 Infernal aura, with my staff, that enchantement would have a penetration of only 25, while the native demon (might 15) would find it's resistance strengthened (to 20).
Should we find ourselves in a church for our encounter (Divine Aura 5), we would both be penalized, though the Demon far more so than I (or my staff).
What do you mean by "Aura MR increase"? Magic Resistance is not affected by auras.
According to RAW it is.
p. 183 of the core ArM5 rulebook, in the sidebar on that page.
If it's any consolation, it took our group a while to spot this one.
So a magus casting a spell in a divine aura of 3 against a guy with a relic has a MR of 13 to beat: 10 for the relic, another 3 because the relic MR is boosted by the aura (divine in divine interaction is +aura). Furthermore, the magus suffers -9 on his casting rolls (magic in divine is -3 x aura)
If the magus was casting from the safety of his lab via an 'arcane connection' spell, he'd still have the 13 MR to beat, but his casting rolls would benefit from the magical aura of his lab.
If the same magus is in the divine aura casting at someone without MR, there's the -9 to casting rolls but no MR means even negative penetration will work.
The same magus casting on another magus who is in the divine aura and who has a MR of 22 would need to only beat MR 13 - because the magic-realm-aligned magic resistance of the magus is also penalised by the aura.
Edits: because my ability to do basic math has failed me
Wow. Interesting that this hasn't been referenced anywhere else in the Magic Resistance totals.
