"I understand your interest... just as I suspect I would have things to learn from you, dear Kriegeist. You seem to have an excellent understanding of daimonic beings..." Anastasia smiles. "Alas, I have no idea how to initiate the virtue in someone outside of an apprenticeship. And I suspect your arts are too strong for my modest teaching skills." She chuckles. On his mention of regios "Dear Bartomeus's familiar cat seemed to perceive that. But yes, if he's right, we have have a place that's connected to dozens, perhaps hundreds of locales that may not quite fit with Euclid's vision of space. Perhaps you're right, and that's why we're hearing so many dialects..."
There are 28 such vestiges within the village, each leading to a different location, plus a boundary on the outskirts where a bridge crosses the ice laden river where a large dog lies in front of it, and the one building which seems to be the village center which is the only structure which is not a vestige.
Anastasia would want to stay away from the guardian dog from the time being until we know more about the place, but if we're going arround to map the village, she would like to analyse what she sees to gauge what the vestiges are connected to. Could we have a list of locales we could go to from here?
Do we know which way Mingus went? (as in did the villager point or something when he was talking about him?)
They have not pointed out where Mingus left. To determine where each of the vestiges links to in the real world would require a separate comprehend magic roll for each- where they lead to are other magical islands or insulae- whatever term you prefer, but you don't really have a frame of reference to describe one from another beyond that at this point, nor is information about those destinations inherent in the vestiges.
With 28 vestiges in the villages, the first of which I analyzed, I rolled 27 additional stress dices. My checks are at +12 each + aura, which is usually enough to succeed on any check that's not a botch in the magic realm. I rolled a 0 on vestige #5, and vestige #21. Please advise on the number of botch dice.
And yes, I understand I have limited information about the Magic Realm destinations, but I'm hoping the real world connection prove useful insight.
one botch die for each potential botch.
don't forget to roll for the 1's as well for doubling. Anything where the total is 16 or above will give you a location.
Neither botched. Bear in mind that, since the aura adds onto the skill check, all of my rolls including the 0's end up with a total of 16 or more.

Anastasia will share the results with her sodales as they walk through town. She will also take her own notes to complement Bartomeus and try and map this, so that they can compare notes after the trip to see if either took down different notes - with the idea of having a relatively accurate maps. She'll dedicate two pages in the journal to notes on each vestiges and destination after a section on the town they're in with references to the different portals and related journal pages (although I don't think we'll visit all atriums during this trip - it's good to have a placeholder to come back and make coherent notes).
After they've made a list of the destinations, Anastasia shares some thoughts. "Interesting. There are some areas whose names I'm not familiar with in the real world, but most of the names I recognize are german, scandinavian, or seem linked to central and northern Europe, with possibly sicily standing out as an exception in southern europe. Do you think this place could have a link with the Norse and german pantheons perhaps? It would be quite interesting to prove that the non-christian unbaptised dead have a different afterlife based on their belief. Anyone has a better theory at this point? Should we visit the building in the town center before visiting one of the atriums, or do you believe it's preferable to visit an atrium first and then come back to check out the town center?"
Kriegeist trusts to his own memory for the information, as they move along. He responds, saying, "I think it would be interesting to see what is at the mundane locations you mention that made people able to enter here. But maybe leave that for last? As to a different afterlife... are you suggesting this is the afterlife for pagans? So they have an afterlife in the magic realm? In my experience, non-christians who die mostly hang around, not going to any afterlife at all."
The Ilses of Scilly are not Sicilly, but a collection of small island off the west coast of England- on a modern map about 50 degrees north and 6 degrees 15 minutes west.
Bartomeus considers for a moment and then makes a suggestion.
"I've often found getting a sense of the whole first before digging into the details helps me organize my thoughts and approach to further study. I recommend we visit this town center first to make a quick assay into its function and place in this village of learning and vestiges." He looks off toward the center of the town.
"Then perhaps a further investigation of an atria or two. It may also make sense for us to cross back over to Gardenia so we can assess the time differential. I've heard the talk among our sodales of how time runs differently in places like this." The Bonisagus smiles as he considers further.
"It might also be helpful to find our new friend and suggest that one or two of us could become teachers here on occasion. The vis income could be rather lucrative if their fee to us remains the same …"
"If you don't object, let's head to the town center," says Bartomeus after a few moments.
His eyes go distant for a moment as he connects to his familiar. (OOC: Looking through Aurelius's eyes to see what his familiar is seeing.)
After a moment, he smiles and starts heading toward the town center.
Anastasia agrees with Bartomeus' approach and follows him towards the town center. As a reply to Kriegeist: "Well, it's the most plausible explanation I have so far for seeing so many ghosts in a place that seems connected to so many places in the physical realm. If you have a better idea..."
Kriegeist accompanies the other two. "Surely there would be more, though, if this was a sort of afterlife? Even accounting for the possibility that they move on to some other place after a period of years... have pagans truly become so rare?"
Inside the city center are several groups, each group is listening to what appears to be a young maiden in shining clothes with a helmet sitting before them on the table. At the other end of this great hall are a pair of doorways each of which is guarded by a pair of these women wearing their helmets along with shields and axes.
Aurelius reports that these doors look like boundaries into somehow still higher regio.
Bartomeus makes a few more notes as he makes sure his colleagues have heard Aurelius's report.
"What a curious place. Can you make out the language these young ladies are speaking?"
They appear to be speaking Raetian.
"Hmm. A ludus magicus and a gateway to a higher regio," comments Bartomeus as the trio stand looking at what is happening in the town center. "If we can unlock the language barrier here, I can only imagine what this place could become. No wonder Mingus required Gardenia to be hidden."
