How do I convert characters and books from 4th ed to 5th ed?
4th ed mgi seem to be more powerful in the arts than their 5th ed counterparts.
They sort of are.
The core rulebook has suggestions at the end.
Those suggestions do not address the problem that 4th edition characters are somewhat better at magic than 5th edition magi.
Hmm.
My book isn't close at hand, but I thought they do:
a) Keep the spells and arts the same, and adjust age upward so that power is consistent with age.
b) Since a lot needs to be adjusted anyway (spells have changed, abilities, virtues, combat, etc), just cut some stuff out. Of course, the NPCs become less powerful, and may not make the same impression.
There isn't a magic formula for #b.
This might not be the answer you want, but the rules do discuss conversion.
Another option is to raise the starting power of the PCs by letting players take more stuff, to reach the original balance of power.
Anyway,
Ken
I was afraid that would be the answer. Guess I just needed someone to tell me.
On the positive side,
AM5 is a vast improvement over AM4, and is impressive in and of itself. The quality of both the rules and the fluff is simply better.
So at least you'll get something for the conversion work you put in.
