Stopping the Flow that unites Body, Mind and Soul

Stopping the Flow that unites Body, Mind and Soul
V|S|Ind ReCo 35 B:15 (Direct the flow of bodily energy)

Suppress the ability to exert one's self. Running will cause immediate shortness of breath, getting into a fight will be short-lived and magic use is all but impossible. A concentration roll if 15+ is required to use magic that isn't mastered in StalWart. Magic that would result in expending a fatigue fails automatically. As a magus better understands his condition, casting magic that would not expend fatigue becomes easier.

Reasonable?

Why the requirement to concentrate on unmastered spells?

Could you include your level calculation?

Would this be better as a PeCo? You aren't directing bodily energy so much as stopping it.

What are the guidelines for "understanding his condition"? As soon as the effect is realized? Years of research?

Base is 15, + 2 for voice, + 2 for sun.

The is a base in ReCo which is "Direct the flow of bodily energy". Directing it to stay still seems to fit. A bit in the same lines as other bases of ReCo allow you to move or freeze someone in place. I imagined that an int + MT roll of 9+ would reveal the status so it would be a matter of rounds. Concentration roll stems from the fact that you normally have free access to fatigue to get you going and using magic. You rely on that to make your magic. Not having it is akin to us driving and suddenly losing our sense of hearing. Still possible but you'd probably park as soon as possible and risk losing concentration on your driving.

Perdo Corpus effects may do something similar but by burning/exhausting the fatigue. Something in the lines of:

Weight of your Sins
PeCo 30 - V | S | Ind B:10 "lose a fatigue level"
Any effort made greatly fatigues you, such as walking, lifting a sword or using magic, forcing a stamina roll of 6+ or lose a long term fatigue. Undergoing any activity that would normally expend a fatigue, automatically converts to long-term fatigue. While under the effects of this spell, you do not regain fatigue. Ironically, true confession of your sins may actually break this enchantment as the divine works in mysterious ways.

I just don't get why Stalwart Casting is OK while non-fatiguing spontaneous magic is not. If you're under the rule "you may not exert yourself when casting spontaneous magic" (quoted from Weak Spontaneous Magic), you clearly cannot exert yourself with spontaneous magic and yet you can still cast non-fatiguing spontaneous magic.

Agreed. Spell needs a bit more details.

Stopping the Flow that unites Body, Mind and Soul

Suppress the ability to exert one's self. Running will cause immediate shortness of breath, getting into a fight will be short-lived and magic use is all but impossible. Magic that would result in expending a fatigue fails automatically. Spending a round to roll an int + Magic theory of 9+ will suffice to better understand your condition, allowing you to cast non-fatigue magical effects such as formulaic spells that do not expend fatigue or non-fatigue spontaneous magic. Prior to a successful roll, non-fatigue magic requires a concentration roll of 15+ as you struggle to find the energy you so often rely on.

As I read these two spells I begun thinking that they would be neat enchanted in a cursed item, or as traps in your lab, and so on. And spells that inmediatly make you start thinking about how great would they be using here or there, or how nasty would them be in a rival's grimoire get an instant "Ok" from me.

There might be some discussion about the base level and the reach of the effects, but as they both are high magnitude and there are easier ways to make a magus unable to cast spells (like putting him to sleep or, well, burning him to a pile of ashes) or to spend fatige levels, I don't see any problem with them besides the duration. As they don't aim to put their targets unconscious from fatigue in the short term, they both seem perfect for the D: Moon range (think of Wizard's Wars!)

They could be effective, non-lethal protections spells within a watching ward.

Here is yet another spell, slightly less potent yet more subtle when used on mondains.

Drain The Body, Drain the Spirit - V|S|Ind PeCo 25 B:5 (Hamper a person without actually injuring them)
While under this effect, you regain fatigue as if your fatigue was one level worse and the 1st fatigue lost is considered a long-term fatigue. This is truly a curse as should you lose all your fatigues and still be under this effect, you might never wake up. If you fall asleep while under the effect of this spell, will not awaken by yourself. External stimuli grants you the opportunity to roll a stamina roll check. A roll of 3+ is required to awake, fatigue and wound penalties apply.

That definetively deserves a R: Arc. and D: Year 4 magnitudes boost!
