Target as its own arcane connection?

Thanks for the thoughtful answers, I can now clarify the rule for my players.

Since the question was asked, I might as well follow up: What did they need to Intellego the oak for?
They wanted to find some hidden cache inside/under/near the oak without resorting to bulldozers. So what Intellego Herbam level guideline (and/or requisite) do you think it would take to detect that the oak's roots are touching/wrapping/merely in close proximity to a buried item of herbam/animal/terram material, and locating the precise position of this treasure chest?

Has someone read Eragon here?

The acorn, however, is still mystically connected but it outside the magic resistance. You can thus always affect it with your spell, and exploit its mystical link to make your spell have greater penetration against the target. This works regardless of Target, as you may hold the acorn in one hand whilst touching with the other, or whilst yelling loudly, or what have you. The thing itself cannot be used as an Arcane Connection, however, because of the necessity for penetration first.

Best reasoning IMO.

A Arcane connection is a conduit and a thread that leads past the mystical defenses of the target and tunnels to the very essence of the target. Like a secret passage through a city wall, you can access to the city but still have to fight to over come and win.

I created a magus who would bite a target and then in my reasoning would use the blood from the wound as a ArcCon to give a bonus... I still cannot remember what the conclusion was on that particular example.

Though I agree, drawing blood or breaking a branch will rarely grant you the benevolence of the target even if it might a Arcane connection.
