The Practicia Covenant (Test run)

Right. Do we want a simply updated library, or do we want the library presented as here, with info at given years?
Same with the magi (and most other things)?

One rather nice item that I conjured up in a long car ride combines two ignem effects to provide a lantern/lamp that gives off light (Sun dur) and heat. Great for those cold nights in the watchtower. I'll have to get one of them to make it.

As I mentioned, this next jump has almost 11 years in it. So I'm going to skip the History of each character unless someone asks for it. I'll go back to posting Histories once I get back on the 5yr cycle.

1111 AD
Disaster struck in the Spring. Willace and Galatrias, mindful of their promise, raced from one end of the area to the other dealing with raiders. They and the grogs fought well and survived with only minimal casualties. Again, the successful actions reduced the pain of losing their first battle half a decade ago. Galatrias and Willace gained experience in combat in those days. In the Summer, Galatrias and Willace took the fight to the raiders and wiped out their encampment to the south. In the Fall, when the fighting died down, Willace decided to study some of the Covenant’s Imaginem vis. Galatrias worked on spells for the remainder of the year and invented some spells for use in healing and scouting. Elucia spent the entire year oblivious of outside events. She utilized the Covenant’s Muto vis stocks to enhance her own knowledge. The Council decides to spend five pawns on the debt only to learn that it has now been ten years and interest has been attached to the debt! The fine language in the contract is clear and the Covenant’s debt is increased by ¼ of the original amount! The Council determined to pay the entire amount off in two years.

1112 AD
Willace decides to continue with his patrols in the Spring and finds that the Covenant has accrued a favorable reputation amongst the locals as defenders of the commoners. The nobility are a bit upset about this but Willace uncovers no real rancor. He spends his time with the Grogs learning to fight and ride, there is only a single small skirmish with raiding bandits from the north. He meets with Victatrix, the newly-Gauntleted Tytalus that Elucia promised board to, on his journeys and ferries him back to the Covenant. To his benefit, Victatrix does not come empty-handed but with a small enchanted statuette that generates Rego vis, three trained Grogs and the promised Summa on Mentem. The others hold a quick Council meeting and Victatrix is informed of the situation. As an enemy of the Moors himself, he is happy to join the Covenant under the requirement of one season each year for four years prior to full membership. Under those terms, he settles in and transcribes his own spell library, for his first service, for the Covenant in the Summer and builds his Laboratory the remaining part of the year. Galatrias spends the entire year working on improving his Arts. With the permission of the Covenant, he uses some of their dwindling stock of Creo and more abundant Ignem to improve his proficiency in those areas. In return, he agrees to write a Tractatus in the upcoming years for the Covenant. Willace spends Summer and Fall learning to ride and fight better. He suffers his first Twilight in the Fall and manages to comprehend it successfully controlling the flows of magic. In the Winter, he decides to focus more on his magic and seeks to learn more offensive spells. Elucia buries herself yet again in her works continuing her research into Muto with the knowledge that much of their stock will be depleted when the debt is paid off in the following year. The Council decides to spend off half the debt, the other half the next year.

1113 AD
Elucia continued her studies in Muto and decided to write a Summa for the Covenant’s use only. She made it clear that the book was not to be disseminated as she was not proud of the depth of it. In the Winter, she wrote “The Consistency of Flux” to the pleasure of her sodales as it was a strong introduction to the art of Muto. She considered the use of it and other books towards the education of an apprentice and decided that she might build a more complete library of the same. Galatrias spent the year extracting vis, enchanting and attuning a Talisman for himself. Willace decided to work on an enchanted weapon design given his new fondness for the gladius that he had learned how to use the past year. With the permission of the Covenant, he studied Terram vis for the effect he was hoping to create. Victatrix spent two seasons improving his Magical Theory before learning to extract Vim vis in his laboratory. He donated both seasons of vis to the Covenant since it was a paltry 4 pawns. The Council, at the end of the year, paid off the remainder of the debt and was free of ties to another covenant for the first time. That it only took 13 years was impressive, noted Galtrias. Unfortunately, the Covenant’s finances were now relatively secure as the silver interest was now ceased as well. But they still had not secured any new vis sources except that provided by Victatrix (and kindly donated to the Covenant). In addition, new sources of income would be very favorable. It was determined that both of these issues should be addressed in the next few years. Willace agreed to look for savings in the form of more craftsmen and Elucia indicated that she would look into some enchanted items that may assist the covenfolk and increase the output for their work. The Council also noted that the Library suffered from a lack of mundane resources and knowledges, this was presented ad hoc by Victatrix and so it was tabled until later.

1114 AD
The year of 1114 was extremely quiet. Victatrix worked on his scholarly abilities, noting again that there was no Latin primer in the Library, and utilized Elucia’s new text on Muto. He extracted vis as part of his season of service. Galatrias worked on Muto in the Spring and Summer with Elucia’s text. In the latter part of the year, he expanded on his Magical Theory while formulating some ideas for his Talisman. Willace received permission to utilize Terram vis again in the Spring and Summer. In the Fall, despite his low proficiency in both Muto and Terram, he researched and invented a spell he had heard much about. This took him longer than expected and he did not finish until Summer of 1115. Elucia utilized the last Creo vis to advance her studies, in return she extracted a significant amount of Vim the next two seasons and studied her portion in the Winter. The Council decided that Victatrix would seek out a new source of vis in the Summer of the next year. Elucia would continue her studies and Galatrias would seek out some craftsmen and a suitable autocrat for the covenant since they were growing now. Four children had been born in the past two years.

1115 AD
Galatrias worked on his social graces, practicing etiquette and the like, for his foray into the mundane world. He left in Autumn and did not return until Winter. His travels took him deep into France before he was able to return. He did so with a new autocrat for the Covenant as well as a pair of craftsmen. A metalworker and blacksmith joined the covenant with his arrival. Willace was obsessed with his new idea and spent most of the year extracting vis and preparing his blade for a new enchantment that would make it razor sharp. Elucia spent the entire year wrapped in the study of Rego vis in the hopes of designing some enchantments that would assist the covenfolk. As usual, she was oblivious to anything happening. Victatrix left in the summer with only three Grogs and did not return until the Winter months. He was unsuccessful but indicated that he had learned of rumors of magical places in the southern steppes. They had fought several magical beasts and raiders and returned with vis from these bodies. Victatrix noted the problem in carting around rotting corpses and indicated that he had been forced to leave several pawns in the field. He lacked the magic and means to extract it with assurances.

As the attention of the magi looked elsewhere, the year started out relaxed but a crisis struck while the magi were about their yearly tasks! Clueless to the happenings as there was no true leader amongst the covenfolk until Galatrias returned from his task, the covenant suffered serious economic damage. The miners of the silver mine reported problems with spirits and demons from the deep. This completely shut down mining operations for three seasons! The silver reserves of the Covenant were sufficient to cover the year but the lack of income was quickly felt by all. An emergency Council voted to solve this problem immediately!

1116 AD
This year was one of hard toil, danger and worry. The troubles in the mine were due to the miners breaking into the outskirts of an entire goblin kingdom! The Goblin King had declared war against the mundanes and it took much scrying to determine this. The rest of the year was spent in combat and skirmishes as the magi attempted to beat back the belligerent faeries. They were mostly unsuccessful and the entire year of mining yield was ruined. It wasn’t until the Winter when Victatrix was captured by the Goblins and managed to meet with the Goblin King that the problem was solved. A treaty was formed in that the magi of the Covenant would send one of their number to serve the Goblin King for a season every seven years. This treaty was agreed upon and Victatrix was returned to the Covenant. Galatrias volunteered for the first season of service in 1117 AD. The Council voted on a new rule that the season of service would be completed by everyone except Victatrix who was the hero of the saga. In addition, they immediately voted him a full member of the Covenant.

1117 AD
Galatrias crafted a quick Ward spell for his Summer season in league with the Goblin King. He was able to learn a great deal about the Goblins during this time as well. Upon his return, he studied the book provided by Victatrix’s parens about Mentem. Elucia was permitted to return to her studies and she focused on Rego again with the hopes of being able to write something of substance in the future. Preparing in the Spring, Willace and Victatrix sought out a source for Corpus in the Summer. They found it in a valley south of them where an old graveyard still stood. They battled undead and harvested Corpus from them without casualties. They retreated when things grew too grim. The source was rich with Corpus but because of the danger they decided to set a limit of 2 pawns per year and reward the grogs who sought out the reward. Willace returned and decided to study more Terram vis to ensure his enchantment worked. Victatrix returned to the Covenant and spent some time working with the Grogs and learning to fight with them. The Council voted to establish a full Council government now that they had leaders for the Grogs and the covenfolk.

1118 AD
Galatrias spent the entire year enhancing his knowledge of Ignem through the study of vis. Willace worked on finishing off his study of Elucia’s summa on Muto, studying Terram vis and Perdo vis. Elucia continued her work on Rego studies through the Covenant’s vis. In exchange, she penned a Tractatus on Rego for the Covenant in the Winter. Victatrix spent the entire year immersed in studies of Herbam through the Library summa. He noted that there were no Herbam spells in the Library and resolved to work on this sporadically in the future. The Council met and noted that their Vim vis was getting low. Galatrias volunteered to extract vis for two seasons provided that he get access to the identical amount of Ignem. Engrossed in his laboratory, he missed the mustering of the Flambeau at Saragossa but also missed being prosecuted for magical crimes. Elucia indicated that she would be copying her tractatus for the Covenant representative to present to her House at the Tribunal the next year. After that, she was to continue her studies in Rego with the hopes of producing a Summa in a few years time. The Council approved these studies for another year but requested she look elsewhere so that the stocks could replenish after that. Willace agreed to represent the Covenant at the Tribunal in the Summer. Victatrix indicated that he would continue his studies. The Council voted to trade for Corpus, Creo and Auram/Aquam vis at the upcoming Tribunal. As Longevity Rituals needed strengthening, and no one was a Corpus expert, it was decided that some emphasis on that was prudent.

1119 AD
Galatrias extracted Vim for two seasons and studied Ignem for the latter part of the year. Elucia copied her book for dissemination at Tribunal and spent the remainder of the year working on Rego. With the Rego vis supplies low, she decided to focus on something else for the next few years. Victatrix decided, at the last minute, to not attend the Tribunal since he did not feel confident to face his parens yet. He spent the Spring and Summer working on his Catalan with the Grogs and through the library. He turned his attention to Elucia’s Muto summa in the Fall. Finding it immensely helpful, he decided to increase his repertoire of spells. Willace spent his time getting to know the grogs and covenfolk before traveling to the Tribunal. At the Tribunal, attended by Willace, was non-eventful although stress over the invasions was palpable. The Kingdom of Aragon had just taken Saragossa back and much arguing was prevalent. The Flambeau attack against the Muslims at their side was troubling. No Flambeau were punished but the Tribunal resulted in a full moratorium on the use of magic to aid the Crusade. Willace voted not guilty on the actions of the Flambeau as the Council had decided. Successful trades were made for Auram, Aquam, Corpus and Creo vis although it drove some of the Covenant’s stocks low. Having survived the goblins, the assault of several raiding groups and now becoming a source of knowledge, the Covenant received much acclaim. Elucia received her due as well from the Bonisagus for her Tractatus. After returning, Willace focused on his swordplay for the upcoming battles he knew were inevitable. The Council, at their Winter meeting, decided to store focus on only two types of vis per Tribunal and rejected trading with Redcaps throughout the intervening years unless the exchange was extremely favorable. In addition, the Council noted that additional books should be a priority in the future.

1120 AD
Willace studied Terram in the Spring and then spent the remainder of the year enchanting his Thorn of Steel, a magically sharp blade. Victatrix received permission to study Corpus vis in preparation for his Longevity Ritual. Galatrias agreed to assist in his Longevity Ritual in exchange for a return season of assistance in 1121 AD. He worked on Rego in the Spring. In Summer and Fall, he negotiated for use of some Animal vis. Once his studies progressed to journeyman stage, he agreed to provide a written work for the Covenant.

1121 AD
Elucia is convinced to write another primer for the Covenant. Again, she indicates that she does not want it disseminated as it functions merely as an introductory work. She creates “Translocation Through The Art.” She spends the remainder of the year working on Mentem studies. Galatrias is reminded that he would provide a written work on Ignem to the Covenant’s Library. He spends the first three seasons working with Ignem vis, at the agreement of the others, to ensure that it is actually helpful. The writing of the book takes longer than planned and continues into the next year. Victatrix invents some minor spells with his new understanding of Herbam. In digging through the Library in the fall, he discovers a mislaid Tractatus for Imaginem that Elucia traded for at the first Tribunal. The lack of a librarian had it shuffled and lost in a stack of papers. He spends the Winter season studying it. Willace works on his Magical Theory, reads Galatrias’ new Summa on Ignem and then decides to strengthen his Parma Magica. The Council decides to focus on broadening the educational materials in the Library and recruit a Librarian. Elucia also requests that an Illuminator be found. Galatrias notes that he may be looking for an Apprentice within the next five years so he would like a broad sampling of information. The Council agrees to spend silver on mundane books.

This is very interesting, thank you very much.

Yikes, sorry for the drop off the planet thing... between my brother's wedding, then a crazy month and a half of work, I get pretty sidetracked. So back at you with about fourteen years of advancements.
1122 AD
Elucia spent Spring and Summer working on her Mentem through reading “Peeling of the Mind.” In the Fall and Winter, she decided to contribute to the Covenant’s vis stores by extracting Vim vis. She provided half of the yield to the Covenant. Galatrias attempted to study the Vim vis left over but suffered a mishap that caused a minor explosion in his lab. Nothing was truly damaged but the vis was destroyed and the season wasted. He spent summer working on Imaginem with the Covenant’s Library. In the Fall and Winter, he used covenant Lab texts to increase his spell repertoire with some minor spells that covered areas he was not proficient in. This was done in the hopes of gaining a broader understanding of magic for his goal of training an apprentice. Victatrix decided to harvest vis for the Covenant and kept half of his yield over three seasons. In the Winter, he continued his study of Herbam as he was beginning to see great potential of mixing Intellego and Herbam to learn about the surrounding lands. Willace spent the year building more skill with the Arts and his use of them. Concern over the presence of Arabian magi in recent news of the southern conquests, he spent time building his Parma Magica up, studied Rego with Elucia’s summa, and then spent two seasons working on perfecting his Pilum of Fire. Unfortunately, this caused him to enter Twilight which resulted in a nasty episode that he refused to speak of and caused some instability in his flame manifestations. The Council decided that additional study and transcribing of knowledge was to be of paramount importance. For that reason, they released several quantities of vis to Covenant members.

1123
Elucia elected to study Muto, using Covenant vis, in the hopes of providing a more useful treatise to the Covenant. She spent Winter scribing her new thoughts into a Tractatus “Unceasing Alteration” and was pleased at the result. Galatrias agreed to spend time on Terram. He spent the entire year on it and was pleased with the peripheral knowledge it provided in Aquam, Auram and Ignem. Victatrix used Auram vis to gain a basic understanding as well as spent a season reading up on Herbam again. As Willace lacked knowledge on Aquam, he volunteered to spend the entire year on the Art. The Council agreed to free up several more pawns due to upcoming longevity needs and more study. It was also determined that someone would need to learn Aegis of the Hearth as having only one capable magus was dangerous. Elucia agreed in order to see if she could improve on the current magnitude.

1124
Galatrias managed to convince the Covenant for a pawn of Intellego and providing him with a solid base in the Art. The rest of the year, he continued his work on Terram. Elucia spent Spring copying a version of Unceasing Alteration to provide to her House. In the Summer, she worked on learning the current Aegis ritual. She had no difficulty doing so and decided to expand on her learning by inventing a more powerful version of the ritual for the covenant. She succeeded in the Winter but requested that the covenant wait for the new effect as she wanted to spend more time mastering it. Victatrix spent most of the year continuing his studies of Herbam but spared a season to brush up on Vim through his personal stash of vis. Willace prepared for the obligatory Summer season with the Goblin King by learning a Ward from Galatrias’ donated lab text. In the Summer, he spent a fruitful time with the faeries and had a decent time learning more about their ways. He even spoke with the Goblin King about broadening their agreement. He noted that the Covenant was in need of more wealth and that further expansion of the mine could greatly assist them in this. The Goblin King agreed to think about and provide them with an answer in the future. When he returned, he spent some time in the Library working on Rego and Mentem. The Council decided to require a new spell from each magus within the next two years. They agreed that expanding the Library required a good Binder and Illuminator but resources were fairly tight at this time. The Council heard a motion to reduce the number of Grogs but Willace and Galatrias were incensed at the thought and it failed to pass. Elucia, who had made the motion, merely shrugged but noted that the rising potential of the Covenant did not depend on “men with pointy things.”

1125
Galatrias spent the entire year working on Terram again. His goal was to produce a spell and written work in 1126. Elucia spent Spring and Summer mastering Aegis of the Hearth, the new version, and decided that another season of work would be beneficial. Since the spell demanded more vis, she spent Winter extracting Vim vis to power the Ritual. Victatrix spent two seasons inventing a new Herbam spell that would entrap enemies in plant growth. He spent the remainder of the year learning more about Herbam but suffered a Twilight episode, which he navigated just barely, and survived with no mishap. Willace spent the entire year studying Auram vis for a new angle to his magics. The Council voted to install the new Aegis Ritual and Elucia successfully cast it, greatly increasing the strength of their protection. Galatrias muttered under his breath and resolved to master this new version, upset that the young woman was outstripping his knowledge in Vim.

1126
Galatrias spends the entire year extracting Vim vis. He provides several pawns to the Covenant but keeps the majority of it for his own studies. Elucia, growing concerned about the strength of her Longevity ritual convinces the Covenant to provide her with Corpus vis to study further. Both of the magi neglect their promise to provide an additional spell to the Covenant. Victatrix spends two seasons studying Auram vis in his laboratory. In the fall, he scribes his new Herbam spell, the Trapping Vines, and then spends Winter penning a short treatise on Herbam for the Library. Willace spends the next two seasons creating two offensive spells for Terram. In the Fall, he scribes his Lab Texts for the Library. Feeling antsy about the past few years, he decides to ride out into the surrounding area to drum up some action. Some minor encounters occur but the fighting appears to be moving south. Due to tension in the air, the Council decrees that Galatrias and Elucia shall spend one season in service to the Covenant and the new spell does not constitute this season. Elucia goes along with the vote as she agrees that the requirement was fair and she failed to do so. Galatrias grumbles but there is nothing to be done about it.

1127
Galatrias spends a season working on a Lab Text only to find that he had already provided it to the Library. In a late night conversation with Willace, he comes across the idea of a flaming blade. In the Summer, he retreated to his laboratory to devise a spell and found it come to him quite quickly. He spent the Fall writing a copy of it for the Library. In the Winter, he decides to pen a treatise on the Dominion titled “The Influence of the Venerated.” The book is of marginal quality but satisfies his season of service. Elucia spent two seasons creating a more powerful version of her scrying detection spell, the next season she transcribed her new Aegis and the other spell for the library. She spent the next season studying and transcribing the use of Imaginem in creating deceptions and trickery in others. She scribed the Tractatus and presented it to the Council at the Winter meeting in apology. Even Galatrias is humbled by her service, keen on learning more Imaginem as he is, and he makes his peace with her and promises assistance on her Longevity Ritual in the upcoming year. This time, in the interest of peace, she agrees to his assistance. Victatrix spent two seasons studying the Defensive Manifold and then working on his Latin for the remainder of the year. Willace spent three seasons working on developing his Parma Magica and then learned Aura of Rightful Authority from the Library. The Council decided to postpone any major decisions regarding the Tribunal until the next year. In casting the Aegis, the Council notes that all stocks of Vim vis have been depleted. It is decided that each Magus will dedicate one season of the next two years to extracting vis for the covenant. This is preferred to using their Rego stocks.

1128
Elucia spent the first two seasons extracting vis in order to complete her obligations. She began to further her studies in Vim again, extracting and then studying the results of her work. Galatrias spent Spring extracting vis for the covenant and then requested use of Rego vis for his own studies. Victrix extracted two seasons of Vim as well. He used the Fall to work on his Imaginem with Elucia’s new treatise and, in the Winter, improved his knowledge of Magical Theory. Willace spent time studying on the Dominion’s effects regarding magic. He spent several seasons working on his French to allow him further correspondence with individuals of the cause. Galatrias, at Council, agreed to go to Tribunal and hopefully speak with some of the other covenants about prospective apprentices. Due to some concerns about library organization, he was instructed to focus on trading for vis and only negotiating for books in the rare case. As for his apprentice, the Council ruled that Galatrias was behind in his duties and could not accept an apprentice without completing his tasks. Specifically, he needed to pen a Terram treatise, assist Elucia with her longevity ritual prior to taking on a student. He agreed that he was remiss in his obligations and to abide by the decision of the Council.

1129
Victarix decides to hone his legal skills by studying the Code of Hermes in the first part of the year. In the Summer, he learned a Jupiter’s Resounding Blow for purposes of protection. For the remainder of the year, he worked on his writing and comprehension with help from the library. Elucia spent the Spring practicing some magical theories to assist with her upcoming Longevity ritual. She spent the remainder of the year extracting Vim vis and providing some to the Covenant. Willace continues to work on his French until after the summer. Once he feels comfortable with the language he studies the Animal vis that the Covenant holds with their permission. Galatrias spent the spring working on Imaginem through his studies and then travelled to the Tribunal meeting. This particular meeting was ill-attended due to the issues in the center and southern parts of the Peninsula with the resumption of hostilities. He was approached by several different magi about where Practicia stood on the hostilities. He plead ignorance and was generally non-committal despite Willace’s known association with the Christian factions. One of the southern covenant members, Hidalias ex Jerbiton spent some time arguing with him to the point of Galatrias losing his temper. He quickly removed himself from the situation and spent time in the back hallways looking for someone with news of a possible apprentice. He made several contacts and arranged some beneficial trades that did more to open up interesting lines of communication than garner the covenant with a largesse of vis. He finished up the year by studying the Code after his missteps at the Tribunal. In the Winter, he worked on Magical Theory through library study in order to not disappoint the Council with his works.

1130
With Galatrias’ help, Elucia was able to reinvigorate a strong longevity ritual. The period of working together helped the two of them soften some of the rough edges in their relationship. It was decided by the two of them that more communication was necessary. Galatrias accepted her criticism of his seeming lack of dedication to the covenant in due course and he promised that he would work harder in the future. Once that was completed, Elucia turned to extracting vis for an enchantment idea that she and Galatrias had spoken of. In the winter, she spent time in the library working on her Artes Liberales. Galatrias worked on his Terram book in the summer and was successful at a basic primer. He added two spells to his repertoire in the remaining two seasons, an offensive Terram spell and a spell to assist with discovering minerals envisioning an enchanted item use. Willace continued working on Corpus and Animal throughout the year. Victatrix spent the year laboring in scholarly study on his proficiency in Catalan and his Mentem skills.

1131
Willace spent the spring working on a tractatus for Penetration. He spent Summer and Autumn working on several spells from the covenant library. In Winter, he decided to spend time with the grogs in anticipation of heading south in 1132 to assist with the efforts of other magi down there. Elucia spent some time working on her Ignem before inventing several spells for her enchanted item idea. The hope was to create a lamp that the guards could use to provide light and warmth on their watch at night. In Autumn, she designed and invented a spell that would heat a room to a comfortable temperature. In the Winter, she prepared the Guardian’s Lamp for enchantment. Victatrix volunteered to serve the summer season with the Goblin King pursuant to their agreement. In the spring, he learned the now-ubiquitous ward to stem any troublemakers amongst the goblinfolk and spent the summer beneath the mountains. Victatrix was incredibly impressed with everything that had changed with the goblinfolk since his years of captivity. He struck a friendship with the Goblin King this time around and was delighted to learn, at the end of the season, that the Goblin King would agree to allow an expansion of the mine. Victatrix left the underground kingdom promising to inform the King of any future expansions. Victatrix spent the remaining time in the year learning Terram through Galatrias primer. Galatrias himself spent time corresponding with individuals from the Tribunal in search of an apprentice. In addition, he honed his legal skills regarding the Code as he envisioned future problems with the southern magi. He spent the remainder of the year working on his skills interacting with polite society. The other covenant members grew quite amused at the dinner parties where he played host in order to improve his manner. The Council met and discussed a number of things. Willace informed the Council that he would be heading south. The other members were not pleased to learn of this but decided to allow him to travel there as he had some news of a possible vis source. He was restricted to two grogs for the duration of his trip however and all material goods acquired would be turned over to the Covenant. He agreed to these conditions. Galatrias informed the Council that he had received word that Winter that a possible apprentice had been observed in Toulouse. He planned to travel there and observe this individual for himself. If suitable, he informed the Council that he would be taking the individual as an apprentice. The Council provided permission to him. The subject of the mines came up and Victatrix volunteered to recruit a mining foreman for the expanded operations. Coinage and manpower were authorized for him to travel to Barcelona for recruitment. In addition, they noted that he should keep an eye out for a book-binder or illuminator.

1132
In the Spring, Willace traveled south with a single grog companion to join up with his fellow partisans. He spent the spring, summer and autumn working alongside military and magical allies against the heretics. His winter was spent in the company of nobles and knights as they devised a strategy for the coming spring. Elucia bent to the task of the Guardian’s Lamp, combining her Comfortable Room and Lamp Without Flame spells to create a lamp that brought forth light and heat, separately, for a duration of the sun’s passage twice a day. The enchantment process took longer than she had planned and stretched into the next year. Victatrix headed to Barcelona and took up residence. Here he was able to recruit both a mining foreman and book-binder. He sent them ahead while he decided to stay in the company of some low-tier nobles along the coast for the summer to secure his connection to them. In the fall, he struggled to learn a spell to assist with the expansion of the mining complex. Despite his success, it was clearly a difficult spell for him and he resolved to spend more time on improving his arts. In the Winter, he caught up on correspondence with his new connections in southern France. Galatrias’ quest for an apprentice took longer than planned. The prospective recruit was gone upon his arrival so he endeavored to travel a more distant road. This meandering journey, while expensive, was worth his time. In the Fall, upon turning back towards the covenant, he was delighted to discover a young girl-child with the Gift. When discussions with her parents broke down, he kidnapped the child and fled back to the Peninsula.

1133
Galatrias swore his apprentice, Elsbeta, into his service with some difficulty. She was feisty and the only language they had in common was German which Galatrias spoke very poorly. He spent all of spring showing her magics and working on his German before she accepted his proposal. Relieved, he bundled her off to their scribe for training in latin. By the end of the year, his German and her Latin had improved enough that they could converse between the two of them. He had also spent most of the year planning out her education, arranging her quarters and fussing about. He detected great potential in her. Elucia spent the entire year closeted in her laboratory studying her stocks of Vim vis. She had become greatly enamored of some ideas regarding the manipulation of spells and magic itself. Therefore, she decided that a considerable amount of energy towards Vim would be necessary. Victatrix spent the Spring working with the miners and utilizing his magical talents to point them in the right direction. It also helped him work on his local language skills. In the summer, he petitioned the others and was granted eight pawns of Rego vis to expand his studies. He spent Fall and Winter closeted in his laboratory working on the study of these materials. Willace returns to the Covenant in the Summer after the spring campaigns are unsuccessful. His plundering resulted in only 7 pounds of silver in fine goods to go into the covenant’s coffers. This adds to the new revenue from the slowly-expanding mine in the mountains. He spends summer getting things back in order. Concerned about aging, he decides to begin a new longevity ritual but the covenant lacks the vis. He spends Fall and Winter extracting Vim vis for his ritual.

1134
Willace spent Spring, Summer and Fall extracting vis for his ritual. He also arranged to teach two seasons to Galatrias’ apprentice in the next decade for his assistance with the ritual. In the Spring, Galatrias took over Elsbeta’s Latin training and she was nearly fluent when Summer came around. Galatrias also realized that teaching was a bit more difficult than he expected. To get them both used to it, Galatrias decided to teach her Catalan in the Summer and Fall. Learning the local language helped Elsbeta with her interactions amongst the covenfolk. She was left to her own devices in the Winter when Galatrias assisted Willace. Unfortunately, in designing the ritual with an assistant, Willace determined that he lacked the ability to manipulate the vis required. Galatrias agreed to honor the bargain when he found someone who could complete the ritual for him so Willace spoke to Elucia. She had spent the entire year so far replenishing her stocks of Vim. She agreed to do the ritual for Willace provided he give her two seasons of assistance in the future. He agreed and in the Fall the three of them managed to create a strong ritual for Willace. Victatrix continued his Rego studies in the Spring and returned the last pawn back to the Covenant. He spent the Summer and Fall working on Magical Theory and Winter on Muto. The Council met in the Winter and agreed that they had not done enough to procure mundane scholarly works. They proposed to contact the Redcaps for such knowledge and indicated that they would be interested in purchasing works. In exchange for two seasons of extracting vis, Victatrix was granted Rego vis.

1135
Galatrias decided that Elsbeta’s rebellious nature needed to be curbed a bit before introducing her to the magical arts. Therefore, he decided that she would spend the entire year on a grounding of scholarly subjects. Willace agreed to teach her in the Fall and Winter. So, in the Spring and Summer, Galatrias worked on teaching her to read and write and scribing duties. He figured she would be able to contribute to the covenant then. In the Fall, he spent the time to write her a primer for Magical Theory. In the Winter, he added to the Covenant stores of Vim. Willace spent Spring and Summer working on Muto and Mentem through the library. In the Fall and Winter, he provided teaching to Elsbeta in the Order and the Code. Victatrix spent the first two seasons extracting vis for the covenant. He spent the remainder of the year working on Rego. His study of the vis resulted in a minor Twilight episode that causes a single candle in every room he enters to light or extinguish. Elucia prepared in the Spring for her coming studies by enhancing the flow of magic in her laboratory. She spent Summer and Fall working on Vim spells.
