I would like to see more of a design breakdown of Braying of the calming donkey on the sheet.
Otherwise the character looks good so far, it is (by its nature) 205xp, which is too high for a spring character, meaning it must be summer which is 360 xp, so you should at this point put another 155xp into abilities (pre-bonding).
Braying of the Calming Donkey breakdown is like this:
I took the spell The Gentle Beast (ArM Core p. 120) which is as follows:
ReAn 20
Range: Eye, Duration: Concentration: Type: Individual
(Base 10, +1 Eye, +1 Concentration, +1 Size)
I changed Range from eye to Voice, increasing it by +1
And then changed Type from Individual to Group, which increased it by another 1, for ReAn30 total.
So how does that get you level 35? Also, again, this need to be noted on the wiki.
So it's a level 30?
If so, I will change it, and add th notes about Braying of the Calming Donkey.
Well, then again- you are working from a base spell which states it is level 20 though the math ends up at 25m and then modifying that... in fact above you claim it is level 30 instead of 35... but it should be level 35...
the stats for a lesser power are cost (magnitude) and initiative quick-2xmagnitude (p.36 ROP:M), and has 25 levels to work with;
Lesser Power (25 levels, –1 Might cost, +3 Init) would mean an init of -4+3 to -1, not 0.
Any Abilities that should be kept off limit? Since he can talk, would Latin and Greek be acceptable for him to know?
I will allow it- while he doesn't have educated there is no telling how old he is. Keep in mind that when you bind a familiar they gain your language abilities as well.
Any abilities to stay away from?
Since he's Might 10, and Size +1, I'd need a Lab Total of 40 to bind him. Am not sure I can get it that high.
He is might 9. Animals reduce their final might by their size, but that doesn't impact their qualities.
I just rolled on the Discord server for this character. He spent one Season Refining his Lab, and managed to get the Highly Organized Virtue for free. (Having rolled a 1, and then a 9 on the Explosion)
Am advancing him 9 years, so he'll be 34 when he gets to the action.
Of these, 7 years advancement was spent on Abilities, Spells, and Arts. And 2 years (8 seasons) were spent on other stuff:
1 Season on Refining the Lab
1 Season on adding Lesser Feature (Animal Pen) (+1 Animal Specialty)
1 Season on adding Lesser Feature (Desk) (+1 Texts Specialty)
1 Season on Opening the Desk for Enchantment (8 Vis Capacity)
1 Season Enchanting the Desk (Using 2/8 Vis Capacity)
1 Season Investing Lesser Device (Quill of the Notary)
1 Season Spent to make 80 levels of Lab texts usable by others (Enchanting the Desk, Enchanting the Quill, and a few spells)
1 Season creating a Longevity Ritual (Lab Total 19)
Quill of the Notary - Lesser Device
Creator: Timaeus
Effect Name: Thoughts Distinctly Burned (Covenants p. 97);
Effect Level: 15;
Effect Details: R: Voice, D: Ring, T: Ind, Frequency: 24/day; Arts: ReAq 10; (Design: Base 2, +2 Ring, +2 Voice)
This quill of a goose has been trimmed and tipped with silver. After being held, and the holder uses ink to draw a circle that he stands within and says aloud "I have something to write", as long as there is a supply of ink within the ring, and enough paper/parchment laid out to write upon..
Also, I have spent the extra 155 Xp for the Familiar.
Where did you handle the advancement? I'm looking at the wiki page and no modifications have been made since I adjusted it on the 26th.
Gennadius looks good
I have yet to finish updating the Wiki for Timaeus. I wanted to be sure the Lab work, and the item created were approved.
The spell you reference has a base of ReAq at level 1, not 2, with a +1 to handle multiple inks in multiple colors. It also requires a finesse roll to substitute for the scribe ability.
The issue is that in this version it is the quill, not the magus, casting the spell, and 1) to use voice range an item must make sound, 2) an item cannot understand spoken words or written language. With an InMe effect it can get an image of the words from the mind of a person, but it does not have that understanding on its own. Finesse can substitute for this as the wielder directs the effect, but for this to work the magic item has to stay within the touch of the person operating it, which rather destroys the effect.
Ok, what would it take to make it work? Maybe change it from Voice to something else?
It could work as written if the magus holds onto the quill and directs the writing at voice distance, and his reciting the words defines the range. The ink (and page) does need to be within the inscribed circle however, not the magus.
Ok, I will adjust the description, once power returns, or when I wake up tomorrow

Is this description enough?
That works.
Great. His character sheet has been updated to 9 years out of Gauntlet, including his slightly updated Lab.
I think the magic quill would make for a fine gift for a fellow Magus.
