Lucas is perfectly happy to have a tour of the hermitage. "The better to describe it to House Mercere as a potential retirement home," he says. He finds the Garden of Games particularly enchanting and can see the appeal of the solace. He's a bit concerned about the Servant's Stairs, though. "Are they really as precarious as they look?" he asks.
"Yes, the stairs are deadly for inexperienced climbers or those without magic. They apparently used to be the main method of moving people about but were left to seed when the internal stairs were improved. Then a guest changed them into a challenge and a place that was almost impossible to be interrupted.
With so few guests they do get a lot of creative license. "
"I'd be willing to try the stairs myself," Lucas says. "But then I know a spell of flight that I'd cast before I tried." He shakes his head. "I suppose so long as there's another option, there's no harm keeping these stairs here."
