"Fear and authority sound good, I'm sure different sisters will have their own preferences. Sleep would be good, can you do invisibility? For myself personally, how much of a fear effect could I get for say 20 vis, half paid in advance?"
Tartessos thinks for a few moments, then pulls out a wax tablet and begins making some notes. He excuses himself for a few minutes and returns with some reference books and flips through them for a sliver of knowledge, each time jotting a note. Lastly he excuses himself for another minute only to return with a few specimen samples of wood and crystal.
"It appears each effect would be similar in terms of mystical effort to enchant. Each effect would cost 19 vis and produce between 15 and 17 uses which could be invested in a single device or split into many devices." He proceeds to explain Panic of the Trembling Heart, Aura of Rightful Authority, Call To Slumber, and Veil of Invisibility, the last changed to conc/item maintains conc. "In the case of the mind curses we shall take advantage of the sympathy that walnut has for the human mind and craft a small wand that can be carried, although it could be made as large as a walking staff without effecting the enchantment. The Invisiblity uses a different correspondence, of course, that being the clearness of the quartz crystal. The form of the item is more problematic seeing how an item of clothing such as a glove, hat or cloak is needed, but does not work well in a physical sense. Whoever heard of a glass cloak? I could make hand flower with quartz beads..." OOC, a hand flower is hand jewelry, usually based on chain mail that is decorated with beads such as quartz. In this case Tartessos may be stretching to call it a glove, but that is up to silveroak. "...or we could use a non-sympathetic form relying solely on the quartz, in which case the enchantment would be reduced by a small amount resulting in fourteen uses rather than fifteen."
"In each case some length of time would be required to craft the enchantment, delivery could be made no earlier than this coming winter, possibly as late as spring of the next year. I am generally unable to mix multiple effects in a single crafting period, but it just so happens that the authority and sleep effects are similar enough that it is possible, abeit at a much reduced efficiency. If I were to produce both at once I could make only thirteen uses split between the two effects, and it would cost the same nineteen vis."
She hands you a small vial of an odd brown liquid which is semi-gelatinous and contains 10 vis. "I like the sound of this trembling heart effect. Lets split it up, 5 effects per device, I can trade some of these with other sisters. I'll get a better idea of which other effects some other might prefer when we finish the trade."
Tartesso will shake her hand. "I believe we can do business, although by the rules of my order I must work through an intermediary. Master Paphos will act as my Venditor in this transaction. You may leave the payment with him. Out of curiosity, what is this physical form? it looks syrupy."
"Distilled tree sap. I think the vis makes it a little more... unusual."
"Fascinating!" he says while contemplating how it would go on pancakes.....
Anyone else want to speak with the ladies not that Tartessos isn't monopolizing them?
"I should note," Talas says through a translator, "that Tartessos is not the only one among us capable of creating magic items. All of us can perform such a function. He is the most skilled at it, in general. But it may be that for some of what you desire, others of us would be more suited to the particular device."
OOC: we're charging a lot for our devices. It's not fair if it all goes to Tartessos.
"They would all need to go through this Paphos? We will give him our lists then."
They place an order (and leave half the vis for):
One batch of the garden-size plant growth effect
one batch (as defined previously) fear of the trembling heart
one batch air of rightful authority
one batch invisibility
if she understands the pricing right that comes to a total of 70 vis, which she leaves 35 for the first payment. The magi can discuss who fills which order..
with all four orders, Talus is more than correct. One of them is perfect for our rego specialists should they be inclined. If anyone thinks they can do any of the others, they are welcome to call dibs, just leave Tartessos one.
On a side note, the total vis cost for all four should have been 74; Tartessos quoted seventeen vis for the growth effect and nineteen for each of the three others. If they are limited to 70 vis one of the orders could have four fewer charges to make the total 70 vis.
Here is the breakdown on what Tartessos' notes figured,
CreMe Panic of the Trembling Heart L15, 15 charges, lab total 90. Three devices each with five charges. Could be split into two seasons fairly easily, only requiring a lab total of 50.
ReMe Aura of Rightful Authority L20, 15 charges, lab total 95. Number of deviced TBD. Note if there is more than one device, this order could be split in two requiring lab total of 50.
PeIm Aura of Invisibility L20, 15 charges. Number of devices TBD. Note if there is more than one device, this order could be split in two requiring a lab total of 50.
CrHe Acorn to Oak L40, effect group, 9 charges, lab total 85. I'm still a bit sketchy on this one, but I think Silveroak's note about the Target: Group will do what they want? Probably a single device.
The error was mine/hers. She will deposit 37 vis, the rest to be paid on delivery. They will be happy splitting up the charges on any of the three orders not already specified.
I can probably make the ReMe effect, but I doubt I will be able to pull 90 lab total. It will take me two seasons.
For ReMe you have a lab total of 52, for a level 20 effect this will give you 7 charges in one season. After that you will have a lab text, which will give you +20 to your lab total for enchanting this in future seasons, so the next season you could make 11 charges, on a separate item or items.
Alas, Talus was made under the less generous character generation system, so he can only manage the ReMe as well. Best he can get aside from that is CrMe LT of 45.
I suspect that he needs to study for a while to catch up to the people who were generated under the more generous character generation system.
Wait, I forgot my lab bonuses and the shape and material bonusa and IG. His CrMe LT is actually a 56, Talus can do the CrMe item!
It's a level 15 item. 56 is 41 above 15, which means Talus can make a wand with 9 charges. Two seasons of that will give him 18 charges, which is greater than the 15 required. He can keep a 3 charge item for the covenant to use.
Talus can craft the first wand for delivery at the end of Fall 1221 and the second wand for delivery at the end of Spring 1222.
Any way Tartessos could pick a different item to make. With all his IOQ bonuses, he can make just about anything.
ETA: Talus could get a LT of 51 for the PeIm item. That would give him 7 charges a season, or 14 total for two seasons. Might the witches accept 14 charges if we refunded them 1 or 2 vis?
In the alternative, if Talus could borrow one or two of the three IOQs that Tartessos has, he might be able to get to the 15 charges.
Keep in mind 2 things- a charged item must be enchanted in a single season (which they will probably accept two items with fewer charges each), the second is that after you have done this for 1 season you have a lab text which boosts you lab in future seasons. So first season you can make a 9 charge wand, second season you can make a 12 charge wand (or 12 charges divided between multiple items)
Where is the rule for that. All I could find is the rule that says: "If the Laboratory Text is for a charged item, the magus produces an item with a number of charges equal to one fifth of his Lab Total, rounded up." (Which is worse than making it from scratch.)
How is that worse? You get 11 charges from a 51 lab total instead of 7?
p. 96 of the basic book "It takes one season to create charged items"
Because I was dividing by 10, not 5. D'oh!
Summary:
Antonius will do the ReMe effect, season and delivery date TBD
Talus will do either the CrMe or the PeIm effect in Fall and Spring, borrowing an IOQ Glove worth +4
Tartessos will do the CrHe and whichever one Talus doesn't want in Fall and Winter.
IOQ do not add to lab totals. They add to craft totals, which will add to a Verditious lab total, but only when the bonus is appropriate to the craft.
