She will seek out the manorial house then, to see if they would welcome a traveller.
She arrives at the manor house where a woman in a nun's habit answers the door.
Guida looks at the nun opening the door. "Hello milady, I've spent most of my day traveling in the cold, and I was hoping to find a place to eat and rest in this town... but there doesn't seem to be any inn or tavern I can stop at. Would you be so charitable as to assist a traveller in her journey?"
"Come in, I will get you something to eat." she leads you back to the kitchen where she pours you a bowl of broth which seems to be a byproduct of the leg of lamb which has been prepared for the main table. As you start your soup she starts to talk "we don't get many travelers through here, are you lost?"
"Thank you, milady." she heads in. "I'm trying to head north, but yes, I wonder if I took the best path. Are there places I can stop north of here along this pass?"
"North of here yes, there is a fairly well traveled river, but there is only one town south of here and I do not recognize you from their numbers."
"No, I live in Switzerland. I'm coming back from Italy."
FYI, there is no Switzerland, and will not be for several centuries, It's all the Holy Roman Empire.
"You came across the mountains instead of taking the passes?" The woman seems quite alarmed.
(My bad, you're right, we're some 60 years before the surrounding counties unite)
OOC: Is the local valley not part of one of the passes between both areas?
No, the local valley basically goes south to the Matterhorn where it is surrounded by high mountains covered in glaciers. the closest thing to a pass is a 1000 foot ascent to 7500+ feet, which is covered in ice during the summer.
Unless of course they do what you did and go through the mountain...
Is there a place in that valley which would connect to a main pass and it would make sense for Guida to have come from if she got lost and wandered in the wrong direction for a few hours? 5 in int+area lore if Alps is rolled, 7 if Roman tribunal is rolled.
There is not, the only way into the valley by conventional means is from the north.
"Perhaps this is not the best route. I don't know. Maybe I got lost."
She laughs "I think that may be a bit of an understatement.. The weather out there is dangerous for even the most prepared traveler, maybe you should stay here until spring."
Guida chuckles at the suggestion of staying there until Spring. She attacks the bowl of broth and chats with the nun about the church and the local community.
From the conversation it would seem that the bishop is the spiritual leader for the entire valley, as well as the secular leader, though most of his troops are up in Vispe, where they are more likely to be needed. He apparently inherited the position from his father, who was the bishop before him.
Unless anything special happens during the sleep over, Guida will leave the following morning and resume her trek north.
As she leaves in the morning the nun begs her not to go, then runs to get the bishop. As she is headed away from the church the bishop comes out yelling at her "Get back in here you foolish girl! I am not going to let you get yourself killed in this God forsaken weather!"
"Sometimes, father, when you care about someone, you have to let them go on with their lives. I will do fine on the road. Thank you for your generous welcome and fare well." she departs.
He grabs hold of your arm and pulls to drag you back to the church "foolish girl, whatever demon has deceived you I will drive it out of you."
