It's not woodlands. Though 8 is enough to know that there are several springs in the hills around the village, and they form several small streams that flow into the river.
My fault for not clarifying/adding in the right modifier - don't know if this will make a difference - I rolled a die because I expected it to be Fatiguing; I meant 19/2 = 9.5 is short to get Clear Sight of the Naiad at Concentration. Of course, I have no idea the aura, if any - I wouldn't be surprised/not too worried if the spell didn't go off.
In that case, my house rule favors you, all .5 rolls are rounded to the even number, which in this case is 10, so you're good. Jormangund has Clear Sight of the Naiad for concentration duration. He is also fatigued to Winded. And, it isn't of any significant benefit, as the water is rather clear already.
[color=green]"There are several springs in the hills that feed this river," Wilhelm says as he looks sidelong at Jormungand, with the water dripping from the mage's hair.
"Shoot, Ah'm soaked. Shouldha taken then off before going under. And Ah didn't even see anything bloking the riverbed." He looks around and just sees the ones he came with. "Ehh, it's just us guys." Jormungand shimmies out of the light robe he was was wearing and begins trying to wring it out a bit. He'll also non-fatiguing spont CrIg to warm it up a bit before putting the wrinkled garment back on. "Okay, let's go look at these streams and see why we have an overabundance of watah."
It takes the better part of the day, but coming upon one of the stream beds, it is completely dry. Tracing it to the source spring it is dry too. As it is getting dark, this makes a good place to camp... Not all the streams have been checked, but this is the first one that is dry.
Wilhelm gulps and quickly finds something else to do...um...over here somewhere...yeah.
Wilhelm will help pitch camp and start a fire if it's safe to do so. He'll also try to bag some dinner, as well: Dex(?) 2 + Survival 5 + die roll of 6 = 13.
"Mmm, rabbit stew!" Jormungand really doesn't have the skills to help all that much with the campsite, but he'll try to help where he can. After everyone settles down for the night and begins to eat, he'll outline his morning plan to proceed up the dry streambed to find out what happened to the source. He'll also make small talk with Willhelm, Seumas, and Deykin about living in a new place and trying to get them all to "relate" to each other since they're all newcomers to these lands. Jormungand's definitely NOT trying to seduce any of them and wants them to feel reassured, but between the Gift and his Social Handicap, I'm sure they think he is.
Note: If the night is cold, and any of them are willing to "share warmth", he'll participate, even if it is just cuddling and sharing warmth. Or not.
The camp is at the source of the dry creek. Jormungand can conduct investigations now, or wait until morning. Seaumas and Deykin want very little to do with you.
[ooc: is this a good approximation of what you think Jormungand looks like? This is the image I'm getting...]
Wilhelm likewise doesn't want to "relate" with Jormungand (and seems to act a little nervous and jittery around him), but will hang with the other mortals. He talks mainly about stuff and not himself, except for how he came across places or hunted and scouted in the woods. He almost comes across as one who prides himself as being self-sufficient in the woods, even if he doesn't fare as well as he would like sometimes.
He'll wait until morning, and then try to check all around the dry bed to figure out where the water went, and to get the other's input. "Ah've never seen something lahk this before - even if the water disappeared it shouldn't have reappeared lower. Any of you seen something like this?"
Wilhelm will (at least try to) get up before any of the others and scout around a little bit, mainly looking to see if he can tell where the water went and to be sure there's nothing odd in the area.
Do these woods, or does this area look like it might be in the vicinity of some of the odd trees that he had stumbled across the year before?
Mkay...not really Survival, so I'm thinking Awareness for looking around the area? So, let's try Per 2 + Awareness (In the forest) 4 + Ways of the Forest bonus 3 + die roll of 7 = 16.
Willhelm notices that part of the hillside around where the spring would be is actually sunken in a bit, below the ground level around it, and he can actually see the depression.
He returns to the campsite and waits for Jormungand, licking his lips nervously. [color=green]"Magus...I think I have found something that might interest you," he says, then takes them to where he found the depression.
"Hmm... yes, this is definitely strange." He tries to pace around it to get an idea of what the depression is resembling - a footprint perhaps? Or a collapsed cavern? He looks around for a higher vantage point to get a bird's eye view. If none is immediately available, he turns to the covenfolk. "Ah need to know what made this spring lose all its water, and Ah think the shape of this hole should tell me. Ah could float myself up into the air to see, but Ah'd have to concentrate on staying floating and might miss details. Who's willing to step up and be brave, and be mah eyes for me in this endeavor?" He's asking for volunteers, but his steady gaze is obviously asking for Willhelm or Deykin to step forward (Pre 3 + Leadership 2, -6 Gift + 1d10.extra(10)=6 = 5)
He's planning on casting Lift the Dangling Puppet on whomever volunteers and lifting them high enough to get a visual lay of the land and depression. If his Leadership utterly fails he'll lift Osster, but he's very reluctant to because Osster's reports are incomprehensible.
