1222.2a The Lost Boys

Pardon the slowness of posting. Having some computer troubles.

Claude Initiative with Axe 1d10=5 + 1 = 6
Attack with axe 1d10=4 + 11 = 15
Defense with axe and shield 1d10=2 + 11 = 13
Damage with axe 1d10=9 + 8 = 17

Brionne says nothing, merely noting that the man bleeds. He had fought many unusual things since joining Alexei and he recalled Alexei's words before their first battle against a magic creature; "The Lord gave men the greatest weapon. A will to win and for the faithful, a soul to send to Him should he lose. There can only be victory when one remembers this. David knew this and Goliath understood all too late." He was not afraid to fight as he pressed on against his opponent.

At the end of the first round, Marcus takes down two of the sixe figures closest to him with 6 castings of Ball of Abysmal fire, three cast at two different opponents. They fall, easily.
Claude misses his opponent and also evades an attack in return.

Second round, Viscaria fills the passage way with sand, while battle begins in earnest. (I'm not really following initiative order, if you need to fast cast something, we'll resolve it then. I just kinda realized that initative in a PBP game is irrelevant, except for fast casting purposes)
Brionne narrowly evades the bloodless man's savage attack at his neck, and returns doing another wound, which again does not bleed. Did Brionne get parma extended over him[1]?

Isen doesn't need to fast cast, everyone's backing away from Marcus and focusing on Isen and his group, as they close in on Isen and his party, he can see several bodies already burned to cinders near Marcus. He quickly deduces that they weren't able to get close enough to him, and were instead containing him for some reason. He also realizes that Brione is in some kind of danger, after he attacks and beheads a hapless combatant who leapt ineptly at him, going for the throat (botched attack and defense rolls). There is no blood when the head is removed. Isen can use that fast casting roll and speed to defend what's happening to Brionne[1].

Vin deals a light wound to his opponent, who is bleeding, and gets a light wound in return.

Marcus turns and begins doing something to the sand that was created behind him, but it's difficult to determine in combat (awareness + perception ease factor of 18) what he is doing.

I don't have actions for Claude for round 2, jebrick, include round 2 and 3 actions.

[1] I scanned through the thread, Alexei might've put it over him, if that's the case I'm unsure if it could work at such a long distance, and I could see this as being something forgotten in the chaos of everything that's gone on, and that he might not have Parma over him.

Claude is just trying to protect Carmine.

round 2
Attack with axe 1d10=3 + 11 = 14
Defense with axe and shield 1d10=1 +1d10=4 (8) + 11 = 20
Damage with axe 1d10=6 + 8 = 14

round 3
Attack with axe 1d10=4 + 11 = 15
Defense with axe and shield1d10=9 + 11 = 20
Damage with axe 1d10=7 + 8 = 15

Carmine is observing Marcus closely, by the way. She's not engaging in combat, as her role her is primarily to destroy Marcus if he has become a vampire. This should be clear to the characters, if it isn't clear to the players. She'll only respond to an opponent's attacks, if it becomes necessary to preserve someone's life or her own.

Claude's blow misses and his attack is missed for round 2.

I think Alexei did, at the beginning, but extending Parma over someone else only lasts as long as they're within sight of each other. So when Alexei went back to Mons Electi, Brione's Parma collapsed and Alexei got the full value of his parma back. (p.85, middle column...but I'm assuming about the getting his full Parma back)

Actually I don't recall Alexei extending his Parma over anyone, but either way Brionne wouldn't benefit from it as per Peregrine's quote of page 85.

Brionne suddenly stops fighting and stands confused momentarily as if hearing something from far away. He then drops his sword and shield with a clang and his hands go to his gorget and he begins opening the mail and cloth undergarment to reveal his neck.

Round 3, Viscaria is all but incoherent after blocking the passageways. Vin has his hands full keeping her from harm.

He will, of course! 6 Daggers of Ice.

1d10=10, 1d10=5, 1d10=9, 1d10=9, 1d10=3, 1d10=7
Oh, one botch potential... He has -1 botch dice from familiar, -5 botch dies to to Mastery, so unless it's more than 6 botches, this just counts as a 0. In case there's 7 or more dices (!!!!): 1d10=10, 1d10=5, 1d10=5, 1d10=2
So, 1-6 botch dices, Okay.
7 dices: 1 botch.
8-10 botch dices: as 7.

And Brione isn't protected by Alexei, since Alexei is away, so you made no mistake.
Ah, Peregrine already told you.

I will point out that fast casting that spell is essentially meaningless as a preventative measure, and Isen would know this. Even if all 6 daggers hit, and should prove to kill the vampire, whatever the vampire does will still happen. Isen needs to cast some spell preventing access to Brionne.

Of course.
I had stupidly mingled things with the vampire entrancing someone  Rushing too quickly to do things

No problem with fatigue (Endurance of the Berserkers).

If he can, he'll Wizard's Leap (he has it as a fast-cast) to put him between brionne and the beast, trying to appear to parry the vampire's attack (In short, using finesse to appear in a different position than the one he had when teleporting, the position being the blocking one*)

If he can't, he'll create a wall of ice between the 2:
As "Shield of the Frost Giant" (See the spells he wants to invent), with Duration Mom, CrAq lvl 20. this should create a big divide in the room.
Cr 19, Aq 13, Focus 13, Sta 02, Talisman 4, 1d10=4 = (55-aura)/2. This is okay. If he can, he'll up the duration to Diameter.

  • For the record, I'd resolve this with a finesse roll for the positionning, with the lower of finesse and defense being used for the defense roll

Isen was able to put up an ice barrier of long enough duration to interrupt the vampire's embrace. Isen also inflicts multiple wounds on that same vampire. He immediately turns on one of the other opponents and begins feeding.
It appears something is trying to push through where Marcus is firing the sand. Carmine finishes off the opponent facing Claude, turning him into a crisp, after Claude lands a blow and fends off a blow. Since no other attack actions were taken, I'll advance to the next round.

Marcus shouts out,"The vampire leader is coming! I cannot stop him, I'm only slowing him! We must flee, or all become one of them or their cattle."

Vin unceremoniously grabs Viscaria and throws her onto his back, where she feebly holds on. He is prepared to flee with the group, but is careful not to disrupt the order of battle.

Viscaria mumbles a suggestion. "May....one... daylight?"

"Stop!" Carmine screams out. "You'll be roasted alive if you go back."

IIRC Viscaria is at Dazed, -5 for actions. I think Burrowfingers is still within her capabilities of casting and shouldn't have to worry about additonal fatigue piling on causing her to pass out.

Note that Vin was not planning on retreating through the fire, he just grabbed her and is ready to flee. It won't occur to him that V is supposed to make the exit for us.

And yep. She's at -5, dropping her CT to 18 + Aura + die, vs PeTe 20 for Burrowfingers. however, since she's Dazed, someone is going to have to point out to her that she needs to cast the spell.

For speed's sake, when someone does, she rolls a 0. The first botch die is a 3. Here are 10 more botch die rolls. Unless there are 8+ botch dice, she does not botch. She will, however, pass out, unless she still has a Confidence Point and the Aura is only Infernal 1.

Luckily, she studied the map that Apollodorus gave them earlier, so she should know exactly where she should have cast the spell. Because if she needs to roll Finesse to create something other than the 45-ft corridor we math'd out earlier, that -5 is going to cause problems.

I don't think she has spent Confidence, after a quick review of this thread on my iPad. So this would be a good place to use it to remain concsious.

Searching this campaign for uses of phrase "confidence" by user "amul" also suggests she hasn't.

This would be a great time to stay awake, yeah

Need five more castings to escape.

So that's a CT of 23, -5 for Dazed, -1 for Aura, plus a die roll five times.

1d10.open(10)+17 → [6,17] = (23)
1d10.open(10)+17 → [[10, 10, 7],17] = (44). That would be a botch.
1d10.open(10)+17 → [9,17] = (26)
1d10.open(10)+17 → [4,17] = (21)
1d10.open(10)+17 → [7,17] = (24)

Uh-oh.
