Zoltan looks at the plans as if written in another language, giving them a cursory perusal before giving them back (he may have been looking at them upside down...). "I'm sure that will be fine."
Ophelia looks askance at the drawings, from behind her chair. "You're a Verditius, this project should be fine in your capable hands."
The smaller one would be quicker. If you wish to do the boat sized one we would have to build a new lab for you to work on.
Is the submarine meant for lake Héviz only ? I understand it's not that big, surely there's no need for a big ship ?
I think one of the larger ones would be best if we are willing to pay the costs. I could certainly deal with a larger lab, my lab equipment was designed with safety in mind. I could easily use a lab up to a few thousand square feet in size without undue danger. A particularly large lab could even be shared, although I would still want one for my sanctum for the occasional bit of work. If no one objects could we go for the huge craft? It would give us time to figure out how to raise the vis and time to brush up on the arts I'm guessing I'll need.
Diotima does have a point though. In all honesty the smaller boat sized one should work fine. Its just that we could get something so much more epic for just a little bit more. And if we finish with the lake of find a large regio it could be a huge advantage for long term missions.
((OOC flaw note: Eve needs to brush up on all arts so she can open an apprentice, which would be one "easy" route to godhood.))
There is the matter of storing the craft, and the vast amount of resources necessary, even for a Verditius, to enchant the craft. This isn't a case where bigger is demonstrably better. Consider this me objecting the idea of a large craft."
Smaller is better in this case as we must just explore the hot spring for now. Does your design take in the fact that the water around the craft is quite hot? What could be heating the water and would we encounter something hotter once you get deep enough?
Zoltan shrugs as he listens to the various arguments.
"This is ultimately for the Tremere and their strategic use of the device. Once it is made they will decide on variations that meet their needs. Make it as big as can practically be used on this lake. It is not very deep from what I know, so a large vessel might not be the best choice. Once it is made and we put it to use and show the Tremere its function, they will be better informed and perhaps commission more, different vessels. For our needs, as big as can be used within the lake is my advice. So that will require some research and testing no doubt, especially if there are underwater regios."
Ophelia nods at Zoltan, "Agreed. There are too many unknowns and possibilities, but what has been presented seems fine for now, with the stipulation that I think the smaller one is a better use of available resources. It would be extremely unfortunate to build the largest one possible, only to find out that it is too big to pass over the regio boundary."
My design had not taken that into consideration. We will need a variant of the Ward Against Heat and Flame. By smaller you don't mean the large coffin sized one do you? It is a good point that a larger one can always be made if need be especially since I will retain all the lab texts, and Jane is capable of translating them, only the propulsion spell would need to be altered significantly. While the coffin sized might seem a bit cheaper we would have little room to work magic in it, and the like.
"I wouldn't think going smaller than the coffin sized would be a good idea, but the confines of the lake might not allow for one much bigger, measuring it and exploring it will tell I'm sure." he pauses as a sudden idea occurs to him. "What if the occupants were made smaller for the short time they were inside it? It would be an extra enchantment, or perhaps an extra spell to go with it, but that could solve the size problem and perhaps lend some secrecy to the device."
((I figure thats a pretty decent fae-type idea ))
((There is, if jebrick is maintaining strict continuity from Bibracte, a wagon around the Tribunal that is bigger on the inside and doesn't experience jostling on the inside. Apollodorus sponsored Viviana from Normandy to come back to Transylvania. So this idea is not unheard of in the Order, finding some faerie that can create the item... Well... As far as shrinking people down to small sizes, there's some questions about how the effect would be structured. Can D:Concentration effects with multiple uses per day actually concentrate on each of those uses? Sun duration is problematic, which then makes it moon... The specifics of shrinking people down should probably be discussed elsewhere, just bringing up a couple of issues and a possible solution.))
"If there isn't anything else, I suggest we adjourn to the courtyard to witness Zoltan's demonstration, and then begin the Aegis casting."
Shrinking the occupants would work although we would need to be careful to avoid failure of the spell. That would be catastrophic. I also note with the smallest size I will have difficulty using my staff, its a set of casting tools. That would give me difficulty working in such a small submersible. I think we can adjourn the meeting, although we still haven't had any official decision on resource allocation.
((Its totally a good fae type idea. Side note I won't be the least annoyed if we get the coffin size, despite Eve's attempts to argue for a bigger one. Eve sort of wants a bigger, better lab.))
Zoltan smiles. "It is not without its...complications. But seeing the world from an entirely new perspective can be so enlightening!" he claps his hands as he laughs, perhaps remembering some previous experience. "Well, if we are quite ready, let us adjourn outside and perhaps away from the sight of the mundanes, unless you wish them to see." Zoltan opens the door and stands aside, allowing the magae to walk past.
((Jebrick, will you be running Juriska? Zoltan will try to bring her out first))
((I can try. My daughters are not yet teenagers so I will not have the snotty girl thing quite down yet.))
((Does Resource Allocation need to be done in character, though?))
((IC its probably best not to do it in a single meeting, and it doesn't need to be done IC. We figure it out later. Just a random reminder not to forget. Sort of a todo list. ))
Once out of the council room, Zoltan leads the group outside and across the aegis to an area out of the way of the inn and prying eyes. He turns up the collar of his cloak and looks about him, with perhaps just a touch of apprehension, before clapping his hands together and rubbing them briskly.
"Well...let us begin." he says and then whispers to the group. "Do not repeat what I am about to say! Not unless you want one of your own! Oh...and Violetta might not wish to be present." he adds but continues on regardless of her presence or absence. He clears his throat and then begins to sing in a slightly high pitched voice what sounds to be a simple nursery style rhyme in Latin.
((to the tune of Frere Jacques, mostly))
Oh Juris-ka
Oh Juris-ka
Pretty Ju-ris-ka
Why are you so cold?
Why are you so cold?
Oh Juris-ka
Oh Juris-ka
Show your pretty face
Show your pretty face
My Juris-ka
My Juris-ka
We shall warm your hands
Shivering Juriska
We will warm your heart
He waits a moment before repeating the song again, and then sings it a third time while spinning slowly on his left heel three times. Once complete he waits and looks carefully around with his wide unblinking eyes.
The cold night wind blows and some leaves rustle. Then a change comes over the air like the smell of honeysuckle but very faint. The wind grows quite and then a sound is heard nearby.
Phhhhiiiiffffffffff.
Call me out in the middle of the night to show off to his new girl friends. i'll show him. Curl his milk I will. Tie his hair in knots. Who does he think he is? Mr big and mighty. Well he will have to wait for a bit. Hummp.
"Ahem." Zoltan clears his throat and looks about him somewhat nervously. "Juriska? My friends should very much like to see you. Won't you come out and show yourself? I told them how pretty you are." He looks about him again and shrugs after a few moments. "Oh well...perhaps I could show them the Tempestuous faerie of the wind I'm able to conjure instead..."
