I'm very cool with how things have worked out, just putting my thoughts on paper to share.
From an in-character Vocis will certainly show interest if he's told there are gifted children about, even just to stay in the loop on what strangeness has occurred.
I'm happy to rework Lucien or have Vocis find another child to train.
It is time to admit this experiment did not go as planned. To salvage what we can: we have three apprentice level characters, if their players are still interested. For qualified Masters we have: Solomon, Carmen, Vocis, and Roberto.
What would we like to do?
I would be interested in continuing with Clotide, preferably as an apprentice, though this obviously depends on the master's choices and abilities.
Stance for Vocis is unchanged; he is interested in a suitable child, but not driven to find one immediately.
One kid goes to Solomon. I forget who plays that kid and PoB is MIA. I will message him.
Now to metagame a bit. Apprentices do not normally pick their masters and are rarely optomized for them. However, we as players get to play with fate a bit. Silveroak has Clotide and IBT has Lucien. So I shall allow you as players to decide which master "decides" to choose whom. Available teachers include Carmen, Roberto, and Vocis. Maybe Vibria, have not checked her in a while.
An issue here is who can open Clotide. A great deal was made at one point about her strong faerie blood and giant blood, as well as faerie heritage. Giant blood is not supernatural, so that requires an InVi lab total of 40 to open and 80 to preserve her faerie blood and heritage. Vocis has a lab total of 34, Carmen has a lab total of 31, and Roberto 27. So opening Clotide is likely to be a long term affair, or she is doomed to be a failed apprentice... which is not something I would necessarily rule out, but given that the teacher is also a player I think that should be discussed as a character arc before we start training.
You may also decide there are exception or alterations to these rules (or ignore them, if you prefer, given that they are in apprentices and were not an issue for opening the Gift in any other books...) If they are being ignored I would prefer Vocis for Clotide.
I haven't really thought about Vibria taking an apprentice for a while. It would be nice in a few years (she's only 36, but is wanting her Longevity Ritual soon), but she's in no shape to open an apprentice's arts yet. Her InVi LT is only 17, and she's got eight Arts below 5, including five at 0.
That's actually something I was going to focus on in the next Chapter...unless we find someone who's arts have been opened that something happened and would be a fit for Vibria.
I do not own Apprentices, and I have a long standing policy of the original core rules trump the optional rules found in the side books. In fact, I want to ban the use of A&A and C&G
I have only a vague idea of who Clotide is and no idea what her stats are. All I know is that Carmen and Roberto have no interest in preserving Hedge Magic supernatural abilities (whis as far as I remember is the only InVi issue so I have no idea what the other issues are about). So Vocis would probably be the best choice. Check with IBT. Also, I seem to remember Lucien was originally intended for Carmen. Carmen's only concern is size since she customized her lab for short people.
Clotide in Carmen's lab could b amusing...
I couldn't find Clotide in the wiki, does she have a thread I can read? Doing this on the phone at present due to the holidays.
silverOak - you're keen on House Tremere for her? Great! What else should I know?
For Lucien my position is unchanged since Jan; TLDR : it's no longer a way to get a quick Mage into the game, so I'm not driven as much to play him. See the post from Jan/Feb for details. Rewrite the character and use as desired.
Rules Aside - I'd prefer if we ignore the Apprentices rules. It's a great book in many respects, but also adds many layers of complexity which the rest of the system really does not comply with.
Even better would be to allow the troupe to decide what is better for the characters and ignore everything else, even if that is in the core rule book.
silverOak - I found Clotide's dev thread. Why isn't she a candidate for a Merinita? Why do you want her with Vocis?
There are no Merinita magi currently residing at or visiting Andorra. And they're kinda lame anyway
I am sorta trying to push the start point to right now ![]()
I suggest Cloetide goes with Vocis. The idea of a giant blooded faerie girl being trained by a Tremere illusionist seems apt. I seem to recall there is a small school of faerie mysteries within House Tremere.
For Lucien, let us tale him as is. Unless you really-really want to make adjustments. Carmen will apprentice him and Roberto can be his mentor. Carmen also has a keen interest in Cloetide and would like to become her mentor/mother figure.
And we still have not discussed what to do about TMIBWASOHB.
As for rules, the added InVi restrictions from Apprentices caught me by surprise. Since it contradicts what was established in the Core and base presumptions, I vote for discarding it. And it seems others are in agreement. But as far as Core rules go, I hesitate to deviate any further than we already have.
- there are no Merinitas in the campaign, and honestly the house doesn't add much to what you can get from faerie without them.
- Due to GM book issues the game is week in faerie, and most faerie adventures are being run by me, so I don't want to get railroaded into my own stories that way
- Clotide is troubled, between being a ully, greedy, and turbulence prone, and Tremere discipline is probably just what she needs
- Vocis is the best teacher, given that his Com is 1 and the others are 0 and -1, where nobody has a teaching ability at his point.
Well it works for me. I had to find the Cold Iron Vexation in the HoH:TL book as I'd missed the fae aspect of Tremere.
At some point the potential Masters should play out the selection and also play out the meeting with the children.
Will one of the Magi currently in the know be calling a meeting to discuss TMIBWASOHB?
I was under the impression Carmen had called for such a meeting.
Yes, yes she did. Let us use this meeting as an opportunity to introduce these potential apprentices to potential masters. Carmen calls the meeting to order, informs the council of the situation at hand, and states that she feels these three found children should be taken by Andorran magi. She also suggest that each undergo magical examination and the standard interrogatorry.
Vibria is in her customary seat (as close to the fireplace as possible).
[color=red]"Is the Man in Black a faerie? Would...dealing with him possibly be construed as molesting the fae? Otherwise, why do we allow him to ply his despicable trade within our domain?"
She seems rather attentive and thoughtful when they discuss the children who might become apprentices. She had never really considered taking an apprentice before (she still has to arrange her Longevity Ritual and prepare the dragon-kitty that Fleur gave her a while back for Familiarity); the more she thinks, the more she realizes that she's nowhere near ready to open an apprentice's arts herself, and realizes that, once again, doing everything she wants to do will just take time.
Vocis offers "fae stealing children is very concerning, and it's purpose is enigmatic. If I understand the history this fae was never meant to return here from last encounter with Carmen?
Will it regenerate if we kill it"
"So I think we either execute it, or distastefully broker a deal to save every child it steals and we distribute the gifted children among the Order. Andorra would become famous and also in peril by that. " Vocis ponders an arrangement where the apprentices are brokered to the Order, with Andorra and the her resident's Houses benefiting. "If brokered properly perhaps we can save the children?"
"As far as molestation of fae I think this one has placed itself in our way, and we risk far more by letting it go without limiting its actions. If it took a child under my care we'd be having a different conversation."
"As for the two other potential apprentices. I suggest we use Solomon and Maria's impression of the children as a start and investigate their backgrounds through magical questioning. I am happy to question them both."
"My intent was to train another apprentice in a decade. However if a child is present I will begin again now. Micaela will Gauntlet in a year and she is certainly ready. Both children will need Latin before they are of any use, and it takes years to see the return of time spent."
