Adventures in Brief

Summer:
3) Sandor, dark secret, questions of birth (magic/magic/choice) challenge:9- some of the peasants in Siderno are commenting that Sandor doesn't look much like his supposed father, who is rumored to be invalid, and are consulting a hedge witch to determine his parentage. First cycle magic- Lady A has to quickly deal with this, Sandor, Danaƫ will be asked, [strike]Pazzino if he may[/strike], and 2 of Lady A's servants, Gervassio stand-in and Colette stand-in. She will beg the participants to keep this matter quiet.

The informants for the Praesidium are always alert for relevant scuttlebutt, and thus they learn of a particularly cranky and contrary town elder in Siderno, Raffio, who has been complaining loudly about his lot, including Lady A in his ire. Apparently he is an ill-tempered lout, but he has been loud and incessant in his complaints, and has even boasted of knowing a supposed seeress two villages over. He has convinced some of the riffraff after a night of drunkenness to go with him and speak to this person because he is "concerned" the Brat of Siderno is a bastard, say, isn't his dad supposed to have lost his, ahem, working parts, over yonder in the Holy Land ? Is he even alive, who here has seen him in the past few years? That Lady A consorts with sorcerers! "Uhh, aren't we going to see a witch?" "Not the same thing, my fellow, not the same thing!" quickly exclaims Raffio.

Danae and company are gathered in a mission most delicate by Lady Agniezka. It was inevitable that this would happen, after the mighty magics had spiraled out of Evandrus's control a few years back. The spawn of that disaster was a blessing to Lady A, a son after all this time! This was a gift horse whose mouth no one would look into! And he did look like Severinus, didn't he; she certainly presented him to look so. But his "father", her husband was a crippled recluse who would not even deign to acknowledge the little boy's presence.

They ask around and quickly locate the likely abode of this hedge magician, Magic Lore success. Lady A wonders how oracular powers work within a Hermetic context; this would be a wonderful subject for research. She quickly deduces this might not be an ordinary Gifted individual. Such powers have not worked accurately since the birth of the lord savior Jesus Christ. Perhaps this witch is adept at a Corpus equivalent, to get a feeling for whatever arcane connection to Sandor they might have procured? Magic Theory success Meanwhile, Sandor doesn't really get what's going on, except that someone's making fun of his father and himself. That makes him so mad! But mother just wants to talk, always talk-talk. The disembodied voice of Wahabb the Mightily Stoic warns them there are spying spirits about, little nothing ghosts. Second Sight success

The rustic farm where the this alleged sorceress appears deserted. But the air is tense, and suddenly GervassioStand-in grabs Lady A quite forcefully, pulling her behind him, a black-feathered shaft decorates his shield. Premonitions success A great hound with a ghostly appearance bears down upon Danaƫ, and snaps at Sandor fiercely. Apparently the alleged hedge magician a member of a gang of bandits, and they are not going to be taken alive! But Wahabb grapples with the beast and tosses it aside violently, and it smashes its back against a tree. It turns into a naked man, a pot bellied unattractive fellow. He starts to change again, but Wahabb turns him to stone, and everyone gasps. Flesh to Stone success. "It will only last until dusk" The other bandits surrender or flee, Wahabb creates hands of stone that grapple and terrify the outlaws. Ruler of Earth success

In a nearby cottage they find the actual bandit lair. Some members of the Siderno community are found tied up and stripped of their possessions. They are beyond grateful for the rescue, and are surprised that it's their Lady come to deliver them! And the future lord! The men are safely returned to Siderno, and several days are spent with Lady A consolidating her power here and identifying troublemakers, the hedge magician is let go to warn others about messing with Siderno or the Praesidium, he hands over his meager store of vis. Intrigue success Lady A then assumes the persona of her husband and visits the town elders, speaking with all, letting himself be seen at all hours, speaking glowingly of his wife and son. Sandor is alternately baffled, thrilled, and terrified! Persona success. But he will rule! They then take stock of the situation to see who are the holdouts, who and why they don't support Lady A or Sandor. She has stamped such talk, for now. Folk Ken success

Of course being a faerie region you realize the only answers they will get are ones which lead to good stories, and probably stir up trouble. For 1119,

Will try to post tonight, Andros will definitely participate in 1) and 2) and his Resonant materials quest; Gloriana obviously will go to 9) and her other one, and to 2); Danaƫ is unavailable; Lady A will go on her 2 adventures, may participate in 1), 2), 5) if Anna so wishes (Spring or Winter?); Sandor may sneak in 1), 2), and he will also go to his sister's wedding (whatever number is assigned). Sybilla may be dragged to adventures by circumstance.

For Summer: Evandrus, Aegis and Hadrian will deal with adventure four
Fall: Anna, Aegis and Hadrian, will all join in on the defense of the covenant in adventures one and two. Other people can (and probably should) still join. Its a Castle Defense!
For winter: Anna, Blossom, Aegis, and Evandrus will all head out. They will also badger Julien The Autocrat to come along. They promise it will be fun. Their trip takes them through adventures five, six, and eight! Lady A, is welcome to come along for five, (and six and eight if she wants) as well.

It occurs to me Andros could roll his resonant adventure quest into the winter quest line as well.

Aurthor, as a Praxologist and specialist in understanding exotic magics, will drive straight into adventure #2 to test those rival mystics. He will also join in adventure #1 to try and smooth the situation over.

Pazzino will help Lady A in adventure #10 in spring as a brief distraction. He will join in defence of the castle from mercenaries in adventure #1. He will change his plans for Winter, return the book he was going to read to the library and join in every adventure he can - 5,6,8,12,13

Giovanni follows Taurus and does adventure #3.

Mercurio is a small child and will shelter inside the castle.

Story: A group of bandits ambushes them on the road. Pazzino is actually the one who spots the ambush. Several bad guys go down to arrows, while Pazzino and Aegis hold off other attackers, and the attackers soon flee. One survivor is left behind. He took an arrow to the thigh. Nasty wound really. He pleads for mercy and offers up his employer, who apparently had made up a contract. Which was probably a bad idea, especially considering the bandits couldn't read. It was written by the agent of the Augustinian brotherhood. The man belatedly realizes he's going to need assistance to make it somewhere to heal up, and the group provides. Well, Anna insists and even badgers some non-ritual healing spells out of Evandrus.

The group confronts the Augustinian Brotherhood wizard. Julien unravels the plots and gets the inheritance set right. It was actually pretty easy, the man from the Brotherhood was behind it all, and mostly people where going along with it. Pazzino talks with the Augustinian Brotherhood. Apparently he's poor and really needs a job. This elaborate plot was to get him a job as a court wizard. The group isn't happy with him, but Anna insists on forgiveness and writes him a letter of introduction to a Bishop who seems to interpret prohibitions against sorcery rather narrowly. She also impresses upon him that the Order of Hermes really doesn't like Court Wizards. She buys his vis at a very good price. Well, technically her father buys her vis, but she's going to use it for an enchanted item for her estate.

Story: The group runs down a rumor Anna had heard about shining crystal flowers, and finds it guarded by a small creature made of ice. Maybe a frozen water elemental? It actually did a really good job of blending in. They have little trouble chasing it off. After an arrow shatters its head, and Aegis whaps it with her sword it apparently decides to leave, transforming into a small flurry. After picking a few flowers the remaining ones also transform into small flurries, but Anna confirms it is in fact vis.

Which is when the bandits strike! Apparently, it had been an ambush. A surprisingly good one, especially since the attackers seemed poorly equipped. They try and hit Hadrian first, but he avoids it, and the group bravely runs away. They keep running all the way until they get out of the forest, where Evandrus is waiting. He had assumed it was crap, and didn't want to tramp through the woods. He hurls a lightning bolt at the attackers who were still chasing the group! That apparently, was enough to scare them. Well, all but newly dead guy. Everyone was very grateful, except Anna who said lightning could start a fire.

Notes: I rolled with magic theory notes twice. I misclicked somehow. :frowning:. I'm not including it. I also changed the notes to "combat cycle" for the first couple rolls, when I meant "supernatural cycle"

Story: The group finds the cave being guarded by some men who had been hired by the church. Specifically, a certain Bishop with an interest in magic, and that narrow interpretation of witchcraft. Pazzino and Anna brainstorm, and manage to explain that they are scholars who want to learn about past cultures as some sort of insight into human nature. The men are actually fairly interested in why they are guarding a cave. With Pazzino's convincing sounding legal arguments its enough for them to bend their orders and escort the group inside.

The people with second sight keep on noticing things just at the corner of their vision, but can't pin anything down. Evandrus has an idea though, and with some arcane words and gestures he finds a "secret passage" with some much nicer paintings! Even some vis in the form of unshaped clay. Evandrus uses his newly invented spell to take a nicely sized one and the whole group leaves. The Church minions are quite alarmed by the floating rock, but Anna insists it has nothing to do with any spirits, unclean or otherwise and its no more unholy than medicine or a crane.
