Andros has heard of an ancient graveyard with possible pagan tenants from the Age of Rome, perhaps from Hannibal's famous crossing itself?. It's in a generally inaccessible region up in the mountains. Perhaps an ancient chieftain's treasures may be found there, things of magic of a bygone age? Magic Lore success. Despite the distance and the harsh terrain, Phillippe almost magically finds a way to guide them: they avoid bad weather, hidden pitfalls, and always manage to find a path. Getting lost in his beloved Italy? Not on his watch! Wilderness Sense success And once nearby, Roger manages to guide them to avoid some nasty Faerie ghosts; there appear to be trods here, traps for the unwary, but a trip to Faerie is not on the menu. He has a special skill to see them and they fortuitously avoid getting entangled in their fruitless stories. They arrive at the lonely place high on the mountain, a cave nearby. Second Sight success
Andros enters, ahead of the others. He is immediately beset by angry disturbed spirits who try to frighten him into flight or drive him mad with their whispers. But his defenses are too strong! Parma Magica success. He shouts for the others to stay back, and calmly makes his way further in. He's in luck, a corpse mummified and preserved through the ages, a peasant, not buried with the rest, perhaps a looter or an adventurer from later times, his head caved in by mad flight from the fearsome spirits. Andros calls upon his bodily imprints, and he summons the corpse's spirit and coaxes him to speak! Whispers through the Black Gate success In ancient Italian and broken Latin, Andros learns that a Roman warlord was rumored to be buried here, and this dead treasure hunter knew where, allegedly. Not willing to risk the grog's lives and sanity, Andros digs himself, eventually unearthing a corpse with few possessions but all of them golden symbols of command. A great unquiet in the spirit world heralds a powerful entity arriving, so an exhausted Andros with few necromantic tricks and poor Penetration has to hastily choose materials that he knows will be useful in his endeavors, including the ancient officer's blackened and pitted sword. Magic Theory success. They beat feet, and the approaching dawn seems to calm the charged atmosphere.

Andros's conversation with the Hunter in the Fall of 1113 has produced a lead and a rather dangerous plan: the man speaks of a an enclave of hidden witches that keep a mighty creature chained, perhaps some charge from an ancient bargain. it is Andros's plan to raid these non-Hermetic sorceresses and meet this creature to see if it might be the one...or lead him to the one. These witches use animals as spies, so Andros brings Phillippe along to deal with these witches' beasts. They travel to a small town deep in a forest, and Phillippe has birds and squirrels and rats and deer at his beck and call, truly in the palm of his hand. All creatures that come to spy are immediately detected, and either defect, are convinced to migrate elsewhere, or go straight into the pot. Animal Ken success. They invade the witches demesne in broad daylight, these are taken completely by surprise by Andros's reckless assault. One or two guards are lifted many feet in the air, made to drop their weapons, and then incapacitated Lifting the Dangling Puppet success. The mansion itself descends deep into the earth, some magical traps (bottled curses) do not manage to affect Andros, but their power is expended; there are also wards, but to keep things in, and they do not affect the fully human, apparently. It is Danae who finds the old woman chained to the ______________________, the group in their haste manage to almost pass them by. She recognizes the creature as ___________________. Magic Lore success.
Danae speaks to both the crone and the ________________, who surprisingly engage her back in animated conversation, both being utterly smitten with the young Mercere Charm success. It appears that the ancient one is the keeper of this creature, and both are unable to free one another. The woman survives by the mystic bond of captivity, some sort of strange and primitive Longevity Ritual used as chains, but is a hollow husk, riddled with Decrepitude. She desires death, and this will free the ___________________. Folk Ken success But this other regal creature does need some sort of bond or it will wither in captivity, the mystic chains have apparently altered its nature. Andros steps forward and formally introduces himself, "Andros Flambeau at your service, madam. Do you wish freedom? We have come to liberate you from these chains, these terrible tormentors". His solemn air greatly impresses everyone, even Danae, despite his Gift Etiquette success...

Pazzino keeps an eye out for the double, and miraculously spots him rapidly. Aurthor tries to work out how his double is imitating him, and then moves in - and has to resist a hostile effect!
He then tries to analyze magic, and learns a little more. Pazzino tells everyone how to spot fae infiltrators, and finally Aurthor casts a Pilum of Fire to encourage his double to flee.

Both Aurthor and Pazzino only gain 1 confidence, but gain 8 xp. 4 Rewards - one notch on "Mistaken identity", 4 pawns of corpus vis from the double, 1 reputation point for Aurthor, 1 set of resonant materials for a corpus book (materials left behind by the double)

Story: The question of inheritance required Pazzino to instantly recall vital legal information. He then proceeded to make a lengthy rhetorical argument while holding a weighty book of laws over his head while gesticulating wildly. All the while, he was working out who Anna would need to speak to in order to smooth things over.
This epic filibuster led to Anna charming and scheming with everyone, while Aurthor used Aura of Ennnobled Presence to reduce the impact of his Gift. Finally, it turned out someone had made a bargain with a faerie to try and usurp Anna's inheritance and give it all to some wicked step-relatives. Fortunately, Aurthor's excellent knowledge of magic and Pazzino's keen knowledge of fairy stories prevented Anna from becoming the new Cinderella.

Andros finds Simian Rex, the monkey king. I am still working out the character, but the fundamentals are:

Hi darkwing, so Lady Agniezka did not accompany Aurthor/Anna for either #1 or #2?
Also, didn't both Aurthor and Pazzino go through the Stamina ritual? In their rolls you have their Sta at +1, which would make cycle 1 #3 a failure even with Confidence, but with the +5, just enough without the need to spend it.

You are right about the Stamina ritual - I forgot to update the character sheets with it.

1115 adventures:

  1. a group of armed men come with orders to arrest Gabrielle- and have every intention of marching into the faerie region to look for him (political, winter, combat- faerie region hook)
  2. a messanger from the neo-mercurians brings a message tasking Evandrus with exploring a cave which has a Lares connected, according to local myths and legends, to Hermes and Larunda. The cave is apparently a faerie regio, and given the underworld connotations and faerie nature they believe you are the best for the job. (faerie, choice, choice- cabal legacy)
  3. Aniko's marriage- first challenge social

For #1, Danae will go, I suggest Hadrian, Pietro, Alexander Blacksmith, and Etienne for the Grogs. This is a covenant adventure, so I await the other players' input.

For #2, Camilla is available to her parens, she is useful in social challenges with faeries, despite her Blatant gift, she is Attractive to Faeries. I'd suggest in Winter, as E. can adventure and still write his tractatus unless the adventure takes more than 29 days.

For #3, Lady A will go, she will ask Pazzino to see if he might accompany her (she can reward him with gold/silver, I guess, she's wealthy), she will take her own servants, the same as before, Gervasio and Collette stand-ins, and Gerassimo Vintner, who knows the area, the languages, and can speak to the good wines and harvests nearby.

Evandrus and Ageis will help with number 1 and 2. Both in winter. Camilla can come too. It shall be her gauntlet!

Pazzino will happily help with #3.

For #1 - is Danae capable of handling the non-combat side of things? Aurthor does not wish to risk involvement with potentially violent people. Pazzino is entirely willing to help with negotiation and has been practicing his fighting skills in case of any duels arising.

At first the covenfolk try to peacefully dissuade the armed men. Evan watches from the shadows. Aegis gets people refreshments. One of the men is fed up and tries to take Aegis hostage. Which is a bad idea for several reasons, but mostly because Evandrus immediately kills him with a lightning bolt. Aegis takes the dead man's blade, and leads the slaughter of the other men. Of course, the sudden violence and subsequent deaths shakes the covenant. Of course, the covenant was clearly under attack and it was clearly justified. In the end, the solution is to celebrate the heroic actions of Aegis and the grogs. Danae sets up a wonderful party/ceremony and everyone agrees the group was mildly heroic although in the end Aegis is the one who sticks in people's minds.

Lady Agniezka thinks very hard on how to arrange a good alliance for her family, to someone that her daughter will not hate. Letters are written, people met, motives are gauged. Folk Ken success. Together with Pazzino, Gerassimo, and a few trusted servants, Lady Agniezka travels to Apulia's chief city, where, in an exhausting week of meetings posing as other people, including her husband, she finds the perfect husband material for Aniko: Giuseppe Dellamare, a young knight in service to the Duke, distantly related to the Duke's wife, and with some holdings in Calabria. Persona success He's a romantic hothead, fascinated by crusading, handsome, a horrible steward of his land...and Aniko can help in this regard, with her mother's training. It is Lady A's hope that a male child is quickly conceived, through which Aniko and an absent and disinterested Giuseppe can contest the lands, bringing them into her own family's. Lady A attends several feasts, and her entourage, under her gentle directions, make several important alliances towards her ends. Intrigue success

The group arrives at the first level of the regio, and Evandrus figures out how to reach the next level via his knowledge of magic theory. The group explores that for a little bit, and apparently, they accidentally offend the local faeries. Luckily, Camilla realizes why they are offended, and manages to make the proper show of apology, letting the group avoid any nasty consequences.
