Aurelia looks at the man in front of her before sighing and shaking her head slowly. "I just wanted to make a map of the area. I asked the priest as much. I was hired to map out magical resources in the area. I offered to give the priest a map so he could help people not get killed by a dragon or something." Aurelia sighs again, exasperated, "I just want to explore and make maps! I took a job to do so, and I wanted to ask a sailor for directions cause the priest told me to go away, and then I got grabbed and accused of thievery, I cant even walk properly. How was I picking pockets? I didn't even get close to the sailor!"
Aurelia takes a moment to calm down, to let the anger that had slowly been building, failure by failure, dissipate. "I tried to escape, cause nobody seems to hear any of what Im saying anyways, but I can't actually fight, and the heaven's presses down upon this city strongly. No amount of prayer has changed that sad truth. Now I am here, talking to you."
" You are definitely a fool. A pickpocket does not need to walk well, only to get close enough to pick a pocket, and you confess to looking for the tools of the devil, and being opposed by heaven. The question here is whether I can make use of you, or whether I should lock you in a sanitarium where you can do no more harm. Or I suppose give you to the priest, if you are willing to confess your sins and repent them."
Aurelia quirks a brow, "The Devil lies in the heart, and I have no ill intentions here. I simply wish to help people and to travel. As such, I have no sins to confess. I have not even lied; I have been straightforward and honest. And what do you mean tools of the devil? Weaponry? Tools of torture maybe? I have not sought out any such thing. I may not be the most devout, but I promise that you are just as guilty of that as I or any other." Aurelia huffs, her thoughts rapid. Are these fools still trying to judge me for nothing more than traveling? Are maps a sin too?
"The priests have told us that the promises of magic are the devils tools, and you wish to create maps to them. The people of Venice have warred with our city, and you do their scouting for them. And you are arrogant, to claim to be the equal of everyone in areas you clearly have no understanding. You even try to fight with my men when it is clear you are no fighter. Pride, I think, is how the devil has tricked you. So what do you say, shall I summon the priest? Or do you want to explain how you are working for the enemies of Zadar?"
"Clearly do scouting for them? Pride? Would you not fight for your life if people threatened to treat you like a devil summoner? The same people who call you a liar for telling the truth? It is not pride, and none of you could possibly be better than me when you use your power to abuse and detain a cripple." Aurelia slumps in the chair. "I can't explain how I work for the enemies of Zadar because I don't. As you yourself stated, I'm apparently not a very competent spy, they would never hire me in the first place. What will it take for you all to let me free? I just wanna explore and make my maps."
The man strikes you on the face."Before you are going to see freedom you will learn manners, and humility. You are nothing, do you here me? You are Venitian scum, not worthy to lick the boots of an honest Zadar peasant. You do not tell me you are better than me, or you will rot here. Am I clear?"
Aurelia simply shakes her head. "You only prove my point SIR, that you are lesser, that you need to abuse a cripple who cannot fight to feel power. You do not tell me you are better than me, SIR."
His face turns red with anger and he starts to pull his sword, then thinks better of it and walks out the door, locking it behind him. You hear him call out, but cannot make out what he says, though moments later you hear footsteps of someone walking up to and standing outside the door.
I'm gonna die here, because these people don't have any common sense. Why did I accept that job? Oh, wait. The travel, that's why. Well, good job Arelia.
Aurelia sighs as her thoughts grow dour, her normally playful mood gone. Her lack of caution, her head strong refusal to stay still, to stay quiet, has gotten her into more trouble, and this time, it wasn't even her fault. She tries a little to break herself from her bind, but alas, she isn't strong, she isn't quick, she couldn't do anything afterwards to help, there was no point. "I guess I can try to bargain with whoever comes next, maybe make a decent impression... unless its the first priest. He deserves no respect."
You are left in the cell overnight, you can hear the guard being changed twice, but you are not brought any food. Come morning two men enter the cell with shackles that they clearly intend to put on you while another stays in the hall at the door.
They haul you out of the cell and take you to a cart, which does head through the city, and out in the direction of the mountains where the divine aura is likely weaker, and then into a stone building where you are taken to a new cell, past an impressive array of torture devices ranging from thumb screws to a rack. Your arms are chained to the wall so you cannot move them more than a few inches as you are seated on the floor before the guards turn to depart.
Aurelia's eyes flash briefly as she attempts to view the Aura around her with her Magic Sensitivity. At the same time she contemplates her escape. Divine Aura will make this hard, and I can't reach my tools... but I should be able to cast without gestures if it all works out.
(Ill live without the details, no need to cast more spells than I already have to.)
(Can Aurelia spontaneous cast a spell without hands that has the same effect as Supple Iron and Rigid Rope? She has no tools in hand so no formulaic magic, but Spontaneous with the -5 should be alright. And also, how many hours of sleep would she have gotten? Could she have removed some of her (2) fatigue while resting over night?)
Aurelia begins to speak in a firm voice, chanting the words to her spell.
She begins to cast a spontaneous magic version of Supple Iron and Rigid Rope with a duration of concentration, range of touch, and target of individual, onto her bindings in hope of making them easy to slip out of by making them flexible.
Magnitude of 4 for spell. Spontaneous casting total of MuTe (10) + Stamina (1) + Aura (???) - Gestureless (5), all divided by 5 for non-fatiguing.
