An offer in Venice (fall 1200)

A bit over an hour later two men take you down to the rack to which you are fixed, and the questioning which was begun in the cell in town continues, much less cordially...

If you are truly giving up on escape we can handle this with seasonal advancement up to the eventual rescue in 1203. You may gain some decrepitude from your treatment...

I dont actually have any ability to escape confinement with an aura supressing even her weakest magic. That and I think itd be good character development at least since, I actually have no chance to escape.

The rest of the season passes- you gain 9 experience from this adventure, but unfortunately no confidence. I'm going to keep the advancement in this thread for awhile...
... also they do spend several weeks torturing you to extract information.

Understood. Aurelia probably cracks and makes a bunch of stuff up, cause she cant just tell the truth.

Since you have to tell a story they will believe for the torture to stop you wind up "confessing" that you were sent by the Doge of Venice in league with the devil to prepare for an invasion of devils and Italians.

Soon afterwards as you sit chained in your cell you realize there is another prisoner chained next to you (go ahead and spend your xp from the adventure, this is separate) who speaks in a low, velvety voice. "I hear you have confessed to working for the devil, tell me, what does he look like?"

((I put all 9 xp into Guile, her specialty being elaborate lies. Too bad she wasnt using it.))

Aurelia raises her head weakly. She was tired, so tired. Why did the heavens hate her for just wanting to explore, to make maps? She would never know, but she also would not let that keep her. No man would chain her. She cracks a small smile at the man, "The devil is other men. Humans hold evil in their hearts and I find that even I am not immune recently." She continues what she has been doing every time she was given a reprieve, thinking of spells, magic that would rock the world. Castles that fly, armor made of mountains, magic is a tool, and it seems another shall turn it against mankind. If I make it out, I will work harder than ever before.

You can only put up to 5 points from adventure into a single ability.
"Indeed? And here you sit, deprived of you lab, and your libraries. You must be in hell all ready. What would you be willing to give, I wonder, to be able to learn your magic that much faster?"

((I fixed it, points have been split up. I put the 4 extra into magic sensitivity instead since she keeps trying to use it in an aura that denies her magic.))

Aurelia hears him and takes a moment to think. "I wonder that too sometimes," she looks him in the eyes slowly, her mind sluggishly taking in the question, going over everything she is and what she could stand to lose. "You have posited your question in a rather strange way, but I'll humour you. What would I give?" She coughs a little as she staggers through her words, "There is very little that I have other than who and what I am. Even that doesn't feel like much anymore. For the chance to never suffer like this again, there is little I would not give. My need to travel, my ability to feel and see the magic in the world, my magic, my free-will. Everything else is useless if any man who wants to threaten me can simply grab me and whisk me away."

Aurelia bows her head, so tired. She had only just begun her journey and already someone had put an end to it. "Does that answer your question sir? And if so, may I ask you something in return?"

"It is a start to the answer, but please, ask your question."

"How did you get here? I don't remember having anyone else in my cell, and while I'm grateful for the company, I'd like to know what it is that brought you here. What's your story?"

"You were not here when I was brought in, you were being, I believe they call it interrogated. They transferred me from another cell. See, I know ways to escape, and it annoys them. You would like to escape, I believe, you said you would give anything to be free again, did I understand that correctly?"

"Not the answer I was looking for, but I guess its about what I gave. Let me be clear, I dont have much, but what I do have, I could part with. So I guess yes, you are basically correct, I'd give most anything for my freedom back. What is it you are offering sir?"

"Your freedom for your soul."

((rewriting post. Getting it even more in character))

Aurelia takes a moment to think about what she has been through. She just finished her training, she hasn't even had one successful journey. A beautiful 0 of 1. I- I don't think I can stay here any longer. Im going crazy sitting here. It kills me to know that being good, being honest, did not help me in the slightest. I just wanted to make a grand map, something to help all the magus of the world. I'm... so... ANGRY that they stopped me, that their words are worth more than my own, but what can you do. Apparently trade you soul.

She takes a moment to study the man in the cell with her, her eyes roaming over him, "So everything you've said so far is a lie, just like with everyone else. Sure, you can have my soul, but 'freedom' as you understand it is not what I want. I want the strength and opportunity to be truly free. To be able to destroy anyone who tries to control me. If you or anyone above you can offer me that, I'd be willing to talk about a deal then."
