ArM5: The Heir of Laymunt Valley (4 to 6 additional players)

Hi! Is there room for one more player?

I have been DMing (and occasionally playing) DnD5e for a few years.

Never run a complete Ars Magica Saga, only a few one shots, and I have never been a player either.

Zero experience with play by post, except for the exposure experience I got reading this forum.

I am also interested in joining if there are still slots open.

Hello @RafaelB and @Whaler !

Yes, there is still room more players in the saga. Make sure you read the first post of this topic (particularly the Saga Concept section), however, since becoming a player is also a commitment to create and run stories for the other players.

If you don't have experience with play by post, be aware that things can be very slow. There is usually a flurry of action (several posts per day) when you first create your magus, establish his background, etc. But stories can take several months to play out, particularly when multiple players are involved (we usually try to give them a chance to react and not everyone is in the same time zone). And occasionally, players will drop out without notice, so we end up waiting for a response before we move on.

All that being said, read back a few posts -- there are links to the correct thread where you can introduce yourself to the troupe, as well as discuss characters concepts. Note also that you need to have the "PbP Player" in your profile if you want to post in a saga forum. So you'll need to add that -- this was also discussed here recently.

Hi, I'm interested in joining your game as a player (and a beta storyguide, if I understand your game concept correctly). I've been toying with the idea of joining this forum for over a year, because I can't find an irl Ars magica group. I have twice participated in an Ars Magica game on rpol.net, but I usually play freeform Star Trek and The One Ring.

I'd like to create a Jerbiton maga who was kicked out of Switzerland for being too young, a charming and creative journalist-artist that specialises in using rings to store photographs/movies of people, ideally someone with a minor imaginem focus of depicting people. She tries to get the permission of famous magi to take their pictures so they can be conserved for posteriority (like those wriggling newspaper pictures from Harry Potter).

I'm interested in beta-guiding stories about mundane people (villagers, churchmen, noblemen). I hope my history-fu is up to the task. Lurking on this forum has taught me that there are quite a few people on this forum who know a lot more about the exact details of 13th century Europe, but I do know the basics at least.

I'm not the main SG, but welcome to the site! I think if you scroll up you should be able to find a link to the game and you can peek in.

You'll need to add yourself to the PBP Players group, here is the link: Play by post players - Atlas Games RPG Forum

Thanks,

I've read the Ask Atlas thread and have already clicked on that button - from what I've read in the game forum, people write two posts, one about themselves and one about their characters. Can I do that?

Go for it!

The saga is full at this time.

Just to let everyone know that we have open spots again! =]

I would love to, but... Arthur has seen my schedule himself. Available half the year, and then, suddenly eaten by the work monster for the other half.

The only workable solution I've found is to create a mostly background character, like I did in Andorra (Arachné, I'll love you forever), which won't fly here (Or in most saga,k actually ^^).

Good luck, people, have fun!

@The_Fixer Actually, it might work in this saga, provided we plan for it.

A few things that could help:

  • Creating a reasonbly simple and straightforward character (so someone else can run him/her if necessary)
  • Running short stories only
  • Making sure you have an alternate SG to pick up things if you become inactive (actually easier here than in most sagas, since all players are expected to run stories)
  • Sending story notes to the alternate SG (so he knows where things are going)
  • Having detailed plans on what your character is expected to do next

I'll let @RafaelB and @Plot_Device chime in to see whether they would be willing to live with your atypical schedule.

Am interested to join, and would love to play a Merinita Magi.

Hi! I’m interested in joining if there is room. I have no PbP experience, so heads up that I might need to go through a story or two to get my bearings before running one of my own.

That being said, I’m happy to run stories about covenant conflicts with the abbey of Moutier-Grandval (who controlled Chastellion in non-mythic Europe), about hedge wizards/a possible Order of Odin for Ash Guild member Wolfgang, or about a mystery investigation/apprentice-related story for Renatus (heck, I’ll play as an apprentice if that’s interesting to folks).

Should I also introduce myself in the table talk thread?

I agree with Arthur, there are definite ways to work with that.

And to @Red-Shadow-Claws and @Reminiscent , come on in and say hi!

@The_Fixer I also agree, it might work if things get structured. Worst case scenario, your magi is prone to long twilligth periods. An excentric Criamon maybe?

Welcome aboard, @Red-Shadow-Claws and @Reminiscent!

Thanks people, that's very kind

Not the good time now, I'll try to think about it*, read about your saga* and maybe come up with a character* (A criamon is a great idea!), just, not now :sob:

'* That is, if my alzheimer doesn't get to me first

Hi! I'm interested in joining this story  Are you still searching for players? (in the title it says yes, but the last post is already quite old so maybe the saga is already full...)

I'm new into this forum and PbP style, but it's not my first time role-playing in a forum so i'll learn fast (and I know it can be a slow experience sometimes, so no surprises here :stuck_out_tongue:)

I have some experience playing AM5 but i still have a lot to learn (for example, i've never played as SG, so that would be new for me  ), but since i like toread and search info, it won't be a problem.

At last (but not least), i'm not an native English speaker, so expect some "engrish" from my part xD Just tell me and i'll edit/improve my post so nobody ends up losing their eyes :stuck_out_tongue:
