That's the plan. I want to focus on the teacher first, because that's going to have a big impact on the apprentices, and the apprentices are in some ways easier to design...
Nope, not too late to join.
Come on in. Read through the threads (you can skip character threads for later) in the forum for the game. Let me know if you have any questions.
I don't see your original message and the quotation doesn't actually have your name in it. Odd.
I'm checking on something and I'll get back to you soon.
I think I originally misunderstood your message. Your asking for yourself now, when the last time it was asked was about a week ago.
Since you appear to be new to the forum I want to interview a bit.
What kind of posting schedule can you do?
How much pbp experience do you have?
How much Ars Magic experience do you have? Wich books do you have?
Have you perused the character concepts here and in the thread?
Oh, yes, I'm sorry, I should have made that clearer. It probably would have been obvious if I hadn't made assumptions about how the quote function on these forums worked and actually previewed my post before making it. My mistake!
What kind of posting schedule can you do?
I believe I can be relied upon to post every two days. I will be able to post more often at times, but I'm not confident enough that I can reliably do so.
How much pbp experience do you have?
I have much less pbp experience than I do face to face play time, especially with Ars Magica, where I've only been involved in one play by post game in the past. I've been in a handful of other pbp games, but not many. Recently time that I would have otherwise been spending with my local gaming group has opened up, though, since we no longer meet.
How much Ars Magic experience do you have? Wich books do you have?
Probably less Ars Magica experience than most of the other players, but I have played through a few magi in the last couple years. Enough that I have a grasp on how to put a character together without accidentally crippling them, although I still am slow to put grogs together. My experience is primarily with 5th edition, and that's also where the vast majority of the books I own are from. The parts of 5th edition I am missing are Realms of Power: Faerie, Lords of Men, The Church, Art & Academe, Hermetic Projects, Grogs, Magi of Hermes, Rival Magic, Legends of Hermes, Antagonists, Tales of Power, Transforming Mythic Europe, and Hooks. Also missing the tribunal books for the Normandy, Theban and Hibernian tribunals, and missing Cradle and the Crescent too. As far as books from previous editions, I have the third edition Iberian book, Rome book, and Loch Leglean book, fourth edition Ultima Thule- Mythic Scandinavia, the Novgorod Tribunal book, and Mythic Seas.
I've been considering picking up Art & Academe but I don't know if it'll be worth the purchase for me since recently all the games I was involved in ended due to parts of our group moving to other parts of the country/world.
Have you perused the character concepts here and in the thread?
I have been reading through things here and in the thread since last night, enough to come up with some concepts and then discard them when I felt they didn't fit in properly. The most recent idea I had would be likely to conflict with Korvin, though, if that character is still potentially involved, because I was considering making a gifted Mercere and there aren't very many of them. You also mentioned another gifted Mercere NPC, which might be an issue. I don't suppose you could explain the current situation with either of them slightly?
The NPC Merceris Maga is Panacea, sister to the Headmistress of the school. Having a Magical Mercere at the school would be more grist for the jealousy between the two sisters, so it's not impossible. Korvin is Panacea's parens and is effectively an NPC in this saga. You seem to be suggesting a Creo Corpus specialist, and that's fine. But why House Mercere? Another factor to consider is that this saga calls for a bit more of a well-rounded character to be able to teach, so monster Creo Corpus scores aren't necessary, and Panacea is my insurance policy should any teacher need a new longevity ritual.
While I'm suggesting at least 30 years post gauntlet, and up to 40 experience points per year, those experience points go really really fast, especially when you have to buy spells from that allocation and don't use lab work.
I was mostly referring to the way House Mercere usually selects apprentices and the resulting rarity of those with the Gift, which makes it slightly less likely for three of them to be in the same place at one time. And my concept would likely have Mercurian Magic and a Creo ritual focus, although I was actually leaning towards Herbam, or possibly Animal rather than Corpus. I was looking at the guidelines for CrAn and CrHe and there doesn't seem to be an Herbam equivalent of the ability to create magical animals, though, which is sort of disappointing. I only saw Korvin and Panacea in the past couple hours, also, so my concept taking Black Sheep(which was part of where I was going, having something of an antagonistic relationship with the rest of House Mercere) suddenly seems less appropriate. Would probably cause a lot of friction, and I'm not quite sure what contacts would think involving the character in this was a good idea if there are two gifted Mercere already involved.
So I'm probably going to have to rework that idea somewhat, although I'm still liking Herbam. Clearly what the place needs is an Herbology professor, right?
Korvin is in Normandy, and there's no problems with three being in the Tribunal. As of now there are about 17 Magical Mercere in the order, and 4 more are in apprenticeship (three of whom are Panacea's children, since she's trying to repopulate the House on her own). Having three one canonical, Panacea, and a PC Mercere character in the Tribunal isn't a problem for me..
Being a Black Sheep in House Mercere is a bit different than a Black Sheep flaw taken elsewhere, since the Magical Mercere are all family of one sort or another. I'm fine with it as a flaw, though.
