Ars Magica: Base Camp, A Saga of Exploration (3-6 players)

At the moment, there's no active Tytalus or Bonisagus, so either would be find. Why don't you post something in the "Character Development" thread?

Scott

Patrick of Tytalus is still somewhat active, although amul's been away a bit recently. No Bonisagus (although Cuchulainhound's proposed one; however I haven't seen him since before Christmas and the character hasn't been statted yet).

Represented houses are Merinita, Tremere and Guernicus, plus Patrick.

Can you open permission for me to post there? I'm not seeing a reply button in that topic.

Are you a member of the Play by Post group? (Control Panel, Usergroups, Play by Post players).

ah - thank you. Done.

I don't think it would be a problem to have a second Tytalus.

Scott

Might there be room for another Magus in this game? It looks to be of great interest.

I see quite the cast of characters ... which magi are still active participants? I have a few concepts I'm toying with, and want to avoid stepping on any toes.

We're still here, albeit slow, and we always have space for another magus. Have a look at the top three threads under Chapter 2 to see who's active.

Scott

I see you're already in the process of brining Winslow on board, but would you be willing to accept another?

Full disclosure: the last time I played Ars Magica was a tabletop ArM4 saga about a decade ago. Although I have the core ArM5 rulebook, I'm certainly less up on the system and canon than most of the participants seem to be.

I'd certainly understand either way, but if you're willing to have me I'd love to participate.

We would be delighted to get one or two more players for the Base Camp saga (http://forum.atlas-games.com/viewforum.php?f=50).

Scott

Will reading trough the house rule etc. first but might be interested to join.

I really only came here to see if 6th edition is out.

And then, there it was again, kinda like a dry alcoholic taling that damn first sip.

I apply. I may be a bit rusty, but I still got about 20 or so 5th ed books on the shelf and it's like riding a bike: You can't unlearn it.

Any kind of magus you are in need of? A house? A specialist in an art? Or in anything else?
Do you want a magus who excels at something? Do all magi have to be able to fight? Or are you into magi that are odd personalities with odd research foci?

Ars magica has always worked best for me when my options were limited - so the more you limit my options, the more fun I'll have building a character.

The covenant is right on (or possibly outside) the fringes of the Order of Hermes, near the north eastern corner of the Black Sea (close to, but not actually on the coast). It's on the remains of an ancient greek town (later a Roman client), and near a necropolis. There was a previous covenant on the same site which was destroyed - the magi have discovered indications that this was by amazon raiders, and the covenant is concerned about future attacks and has started looking to its defenses.

It was founded by the Theban tribunal to provide temporary accommodation to guests. There could therefore be a wide range of magi who could turn up; however, a few thoughts are:

  • It's not an obvious location for Hermetic service providers or lab rats - they're likely to be somewhere more central and less dangerous
  • Seekers, on the other hand, have a number of things to attract them (although note we have had these before, and have one non-Seeker Bonisagus currently, plus one Seeker Bonisagus if he reappears)
  • Militant magi might be attracted to the rumours of Amazons (or assigned there, in the case of the Tremere - there's one there already, but he's a fairly junior scout).
  • Pralicians might also be interested in the Amazons, for different reasons
  • Until quite recently, the covenant had a Guernicus assigned to it. She's recently left (after a nasty brush with the amazons), so a replacement might be sent. I'd check this with MtKnife first to make sure it won't interfer with anything he's planning.
  • There's always "wanted to be a long way away from somewhere else".

given the location there is also a strong possibility of Tremere attempting to take over the covenant with offers of assistance...

A very junior Tremere already got appointed its leader just recently...

(Theban "patriot" looking to investigate what is going on with the covenant and the Tremere is another possible character concept, if you don't mind IC politics).

What is the process for getting into this game? I would be interested if you still need people?

Funny thing my current weekly game takes place not too far (725km drive on google) from where you describe the covenant. We are on an island on the north side of the black sea. Maybe I could have been apprenticed there.

A slight correction: the covenant site is actually near the northeastern end of the Sea of Azov, at the edge of the Don Delta. The Sea of Azov empties into the Black Sea.

Scott

Has anyone taken the Theban patriot idea at this point?

Hey, are you still open to more players? Or are you full?
