Ars Magica: Light of Andorra

For a fellow Greek? Always

I'm fake Greek, like Souvlaka made out of pork. Hey, I have seen it made from tofu before.

I will PM you a magi concept. Thanks for the invite. I look forward to some good gaming.

Cool

I am a half Greek, born in the US with an English last name; and I speak more Spanish than Greek

Look forward to seeing your idea

As I cannot post within the Light of Andorra thread at this time I am posting my character submission here for troupe consideration/approval.
Enjoy 8)

Theseus has not yet bothered to formulate a longevity elixir. Note that Theseus does not start making aging rolls until the age of 50 years. Theseus has not appeared to age since he was 16 years of age.

Background:
Anne was a peasant girl of merely thirteen summers when she became lost while looking for berries. That hot summer day she lost her way and was found and seduced by faerie acting in the role of an elven prince. Following their dalliance, the faerie lead the peasant girl back to a path that would see her home. When the girl returned to her home she learned she had been missing for a week. Her father’s wrath at her absence was great, but became so much worse when it became obvious the following fall that the girl was with child. Her father, a freeman of some modest means, erected a small house for his wayward daughter and her bastard child and left her to her own devises there. After a miserable winter the spring brought forth a small fair skinned child that Anne named Obsome after a faerie legends said lived in the wood she had become lost in. The first full moon, however, revealed a wolf cub were the baby had lain, and Anne grew afraid for her cursed child. For many years, Anne would hide her son away in the root cellar on nights of the full moon, tossing in a chicken or hare to keep the wolf-boy content, and to keep him from howling.
Young Obsome’s seventh summer approached, a strange woman (his future parens) discovered the boy playing in a field. Mabia Ex Merinita probed Anne’s mind to learn all she could of the young boy, then set off to discover and learn of the boy’s faerie father. Mabia disappeared into the faerie region for two years, emerging with a determination to take the boy as her apprentice the following year. The following winter, Mabia convinced Anne to surrender Obsome to apprenticeship with the promise to care for the boy and to send a small stipend back to aid in supporting Anne. Each winter, Obsome was allowed to visit his mother. During his sixth year of apprenticeship, Obsome was visiting his mother during the winter when the local priest came calling. He scolded Anne for not repenting for birthing “the bastard Obsome”, and began reciting scripture and cannon that supported his condemnation of her. As the berating continued, Anne realized the night was coming and ordered Obsome to the root cellar. With the priest following behind, Obsome descended into the root cellar. His mother handed him down a chicken as the now seriously annoyed priest continued to berate her. But Anne was not as young as she once was, and Obsome began to change before she could close the cellar. The priest was shocked and called Anne a harlot in league with the devil and shoved her. Anne fell into the root cellar, her head striking a spade. The wolf in the cellar howled in rage and leaped out of the cellar and onto the priest. It took several minutes for the priests screams to stop. Obsome woke the next morning with the priest’s blood on his hands and face. He discovered his mother dead in the root cellar soon after. Panicking, Obsome washed, gathered his clothes and fled back to Voluntas leaving the dead as they laid. Obsome has not appeared to age since that day.
Obsome completed his apprenticeship at the age of twenty-five and became Theseus Ex Merinita. His gauntlet consisted of navigating/escaping a faerie region and bringing back certain faerie plants as proof. Theseus spent the next ten years at Voluntas, trading vis for access to the library and room and board. At the age of thirty-six he traveled to the Rhine tribunal and bartered vis for access to various libraries. He wandered the Rhine tribunal, covenant to covenant for three years. At the age of thirty-nine, now fourteen years out of apprenticeship, Theseus traveled to the Roman tribunal and spent four years there bartering vis for training. At the age of forty-two, in his seventeenth year past gauntlet, Theseus met and befriended the hoplite Pithius Ex Flambeau. For three years the two friends traveled with the quaesitor Justinius in search of a renounced magus, formerly of house jerbiton, who had been renounced for diabolism. Theseus learned a lot in this time, and was useful to the trio as a healer.
At the age of forty-five, twenty years past his gauntlet, Theseus fought alongside Pithius and Justinius, as they finally vanquished the diabolist and his most trusted lieutenants. Pithius left the trio, returning to his home covenant in the Roman tribunal, citing a need to develop a longevity ritual. Justinius and Theseus traveled together to Provencal, where Justinius returned to his home covenant to document the hunt of the diabolist. Theseus left with a visiting redcap, accompanying her on her journey. Theseus, arrives with the same redcap at the covenant of Andorra.

Equipment: An oaken quarterstaff, Small golden crucifix (about the size of a knuckle), wool robes, wool trousers, leather boots, cotton tunic, small iron knife, brass goblet, bottle of wine(from provencal), Bible(latin—a gift from Pithius), horse, lead rope, Pack, basket, some provisions, waterskin, brass eating utensils, hammered copper bowl, lab texts for formulaic spells known, sigil.

Personality Traits:
Friendly +2 Inquisitive: +2 Loyal: +1

Reputations:
Bookish neophyte +1 (voluntas magi)
Trusted traveling companion (Pithius and Justinius) +2
Werewolf +1 (Provencal redcaps)

sorry about the way the posting falls out, its a copy/paste from a word document.

Click on "Usergroups" up on the top of the page. The rest of the Andorra troupe is probably not reading this, so you need to join the Play-by=Post forums and post the character over there

Time for the annual recruitment drive!

Andorra is still going strong, but we are down to only a handful of consistently active players. I am looking for 2 or 3 new players with some experience with Ars Magica. Below I shal post an updated campaign description...

Campaign Title: Light of Andorra
System: Ars Magica, Fifth Edition
Setting: Iberia, in Andorra, last of the Spanish Marches.
Players Wanted: I am looking for two or three more players. Flambeau are encouraged, but all Houses are welcome
Player Experience: I am hoping to find players with some experience with the game. If you have never ever played Ars Magica 5 before, this would not be a good starting point. You will get easily overwhelmed by the rules and events of the saga. Familiarity with earlier editions of the game is not at all necessary, though such players will find their past knowledge contributes to a rewarding experience.
Posting Rate: 2 to 4 times a week
Note: I post a lot, because I feel that it is the SG’s responsibility to post as much as the other players combined, and that most player posts deserve an individual response. No one should feel obligated to try and post as much as me (that will just make me feel I should post even more, and will raise my already grotesque post count to astronomical dimensions) . I do hope that someone posts something once or twice a day (between six players, that averages around 1 or 2 posts per player per week)
Combat Rules: The game is not as combat intensive as it may first appear, but when it comes time to throw down, be prepared! So far we have had success using normal RAW combat rules with the Invisible Castle on-line dice roller (we will show you how to use it, it is easy).
Dice Rules: Invisible Castle usually, though sometimes I will roll actual polyhedral plastic at home to save time.
Advancement Rules: You will find that I am quite generous, but the trade of is that I throw high end hazards at you. The library is most exceptional, and I award up to 15xp for adventures (average is 10, minimum is 5)
Special Rules: I have a special Wards HR (if said ward matches subject creatures Realm and Form, you do not subtract the level from the CT). Otherwise I am pretty RAW focused. Well, at least I am making more of an effort to be. I can be a little loose sometimes, but my players want me to be more traditional, so I try to comply.
Oh, also, I am using the original House Flambeau history from ToH-Iberia, and I mix old and new cannon together (see the Sub Rosa Article concerning the “Knights of Seneca”)
Character Creation: I am looking for people to make magi that are 10 to 20 years out of gauntlet. I use a 40xp/year house rule (the average source quality for study is 10; sometimes it is as low as 5 and sometimes it is 15). I am glad to assist with character design. Don’t gimp yoyrself! I invite you to play with power. But keep in mind that the character needs approval from the other players (I am not the rules shark, they are).
Keep in mint that, at first, you will be jus a visitor. In the current adventure, Redcaps have recently been sent off with messages requiring assistance from our allies. The idea is that the new characters are the magi sent in response to said request.
Optionally, I do have some NPC’s hanging around that you could step into. Former PC’s who’s players have left the game because of personal time constraints. Most of these I have shipped off, but there are a few that are important to the backstory that I have kept around.
Campaign Description: A lot has happened so far, but we have only progressed to Spring 1223 so far. It is easy to catch up, and you need not be that concerned with events that took place before you. If a past event become relevant to the present story, someone will fill you in with what you need to know.
The current situation is that an arch-nemesis, a powerful efreet, has broken through our aegis and kidnapped one of the magi, the daughter of one of the covenant’s elders. He has demanded a thousand pawns of Ignem as ransom, a ridiculous sum that even we cannot afford. So the characters are planning to trick him and try to rescue their sodale through subversion and trickery (though it may result to a contest of force, that is an option they are trying to avoid).

If you have an interest &/or any questions, drop me a PM and I will be glad discuss th game in more detail with you

I want in, would prefer to play a Jerbiton that I have been kicking around in my noggin for a while but will play a more combat oriented Magus if preferred. I have experience with Ars since the White Wolf days so I would have both past and present knowledge of the game (have pretty much all the Ars books for 5th as well). I am looking to play because my current group doesn't play Ars at all, so I would be very excited about playing. I can guarantee at least a post a day as I don't work right now, and if I did start I would still get at least 3 to 5 a week probably more! I write as well so my post will hopefully be good for the story as well.

Just let me know here or through PM.

Jerbiton is cool . You can mix in a little combat potential with a Jerbiton. My old Jerbiton magus was a merchant and Corpus specialist (his friends kept razzing him for being a necromancer). And, what is more important than being able to fight, is being able to survive! Send me a draft of the character you are tinkering with and we can go from there.

I'd be up for another game

Kal

But of course! I have seen your roleplaying skill in Novus Mane, and I think you would be an excellent addition

Thanks Marko

i'll come up with some ideas and background tomorrow - I've gotta get to work soon then run a tabletop Vampire game this evening....too busy!

Kal

Are you still looking for players?

I've never actually played AM5, but I've spent far too often reading the rules (I'm part of one of the playtesting groups, along with my main SG (if he ever gets around to RUNNING the game instead of planning (he wants to resurrect his now dead saga from a while back) so I'm familiar with them, including the mundane combat rules.

? How can you e a "playtester" and have ever played the game? Hmmm. Have you played any earlier editions? Normally I would hesitate, but if you are a playtester that would balance things out. Jump on over to Andorra's "Table Talk" thread, and let us discuss what sort of character you would be interested in playing (remember to join the Atlas PbP group first, so you can post).

Recruitment for Andorra continues

We've not previously had much contact (I've been on the forum for a few years but I'm not a very active poster), but my current game looks like it might be on its last legs and I'm casting around for something else to do with all my ArM books. If you've got a player slot free, I'd like to be considered. Familiarity with the rules isn't an issue - I've been SG-ing Ars Magica for about two years (and other stuff for another sixteen-ish).

At this stage, I'm more interested in playing a companion character than a magus - can that be accommodated in the saga without too much trouble? I have no firm ideas as yet (though a Redcap would be interesting). In fact, if there are any grogs that could be promoted to companion-level without too much trouble, that would be fine by me.

Would you be interested in playing an NPC magus? That would be awesome and help me out a lot

Well, given that you asked so nicely, I really don't see how I can refuse!

Cool. I will send you something shortly.
In the meantime, join the Atlas PbP group and post on the Andorra forum. Say hello and stuff

hi,

haven't had a look at the posts fora while...any chance that there would be place for 1 more?
...I read that the tribunal stands between Provencial and Iberian...if there is still an opening, would you mind a Tytalus? I've played tabletop AM 4th ed. in a cuple of campaign and would appreciate to try the new edition

let me know.

ArM5 is six years old now, I don't think it can really be called a New Edition anymore:D
Anyways, what sort of sharacter are you interested in?
