How do I create an avatar for myself if it's just a picture I have on my computer?

Put it online somewhere, with imageshack, for exemple.

Then, go to profile. in the end, you can link an URL. Link the URL of your avatar.

And would you have any suggestions about how to keep photos and/or graphics to a suggested size. For instance, it looks like ImageShack keeps non-subscribers to a 1.5mb ceiling. The front page has a resizing option, it looks like.
