Patrick targets the lone figure who is approaching us now with the other spell.
[Sorry for the delay--lots going on both at home and at work the past few days.]
Though the spell succeeds, it has no apparent effect.
As Tasia has moved to greet the ghost, he (it's definitely a male form, dressed in a way no modern would dress) approaches her, looking somewhat irritated. He addresses her directly, speaking in archaic Greek.
"What's the meaning of this? Why are you interfering with my business?"
Scott
In the same Greek, "I apologize for my companion's actions. I am Tasia. Who are you all?"
"I am Theoros. This is my business. What might be your business here?"
Scott
"This is our home through which you are walking. We wanted to know who you are and what your business is. Hopefully we can coexist peacefully."
Unable to comprehend the dialogue, Patrick mentally prepares himself to spont an Arcane Ring of Spirit Warding around Theoros, opening up his Numerology book and spending the round of preparation. If it comes to naught, the exercise in mathematics as he tracks the minute variable changes from round to round will prove a useful distraction.
The ghost laughs at Tasia's reply. "'Home'? This has been my home for far longer. By my lights, you're a visitor--and a newly arrived one, at that."
Scott
Gregorius looked slightly surprised when the ghost spoke in a language other than Latin. Unable to understand a word that's being said, he concentrates on paying attention to the tones of voice and body language being used, trying to watch out for things turning ugly.
[On Tasia: Per 3 + Folk Ken 2 + 1(magi) + die 2 = 8 (invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3161527/)
On Theoros: Per 3 + Folk Ken 2/ Magic Lore 2 + die 4 = 9 (invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3161528/) (Note, I'm guessing which ability to use here based on the "Social Abilities and Magical Beings inset on page 51 of RoP:M. Given that Gregorius has the same Folk ken and Magic Lore anyway, it probably doesn't make much difference.)]
Alcimus, meanwhile, continues to watch the other ghosts.
[Per 2 + Awareness 3 + die 1/20 = 6 or 25. (invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3161531/). I'm guessing this was probably a simple roll, in which case, 6.]
[OOC: I'm not planning to post much unless there's something specific for Gregorius/Alcimus to do, so please don't hold up the conversation between Tasia and Theoros waiting on me.]
OOC: ditto.
(OOC - Sorry, wasn't online so much for a few days.)
"Newly arrived - myself, yes. However, not all of us are newly arrived, though all surely much more recent than yourselves. However, our people have been making this their home for a while and we were asked to come fix it back up. We do now reside here, so we are not visitors. If our presence does not bother you, and if you do not interfere with us, we should be able to get along well, or at least cohabit this place without difficulty. Perhaps we could even be of assistance to you in some way?
"Now that you are speaking with us, could you tell us who you are? While names would be nice, too, I really mean who you are as a people. This island has a long and vague or forgotten history. It would be nice to rectify that."
[Quick note: Tanais was never an island. It was however on the coast, where the principal stream of the Don met the sea.]
Theoros laughs again. "We shall see if you stay here--the last lot of your like didn't, did they? At any rate, the only way you can help me is if you help my business--Tanais' business."
Scott
(OOC - Thanks. I think I got confused on the specifics way back when. That makes a lot more sense to me now.)
"And what is your, or Tanais's business?"
The spectral man nods over his shoulder. "There, you see it. Can't you?" He looks back at Tasia, quizzically.
Scott
"No, I'm afraid my eyes are tired right now and so I cannot." Tasia turns to those around her. While pointing she asks, "Can any of you see their business?" If no one can, she'll ask the ghost to describe it to her.
Patrick does a quick several rounds of math in his head:
Lovely (Hermetic), InVi 3, CT12, Touch, Mom, Ind
Lucky, (Faerie), InVi 3, CT12, Touch, Mom, Ind
Hosed (Dominion), InVi 3, CT12,Touch, Mom, Ind
Screwed? (Infernal), InVi 3, CT12, Touch, Mom, Ind
Four different spells to determine aura power. Base 2, + 1 Touch
Search for Vis, InVi 5, CT12, Per, Mom, Vision
...before answering.
[ooc: Rotes. No roll is needed. Add Aura/2 to CT, and if it is better than the spell level, it goes off without any gestures or words]
Gregorius shrugs.
"I can see the ghosts moving bundles to and fro, but nothing beyond that."
The aura is still Magic, and no different in strength t han before.
Scott
Patrick grunts to indicate he sees nothing.
"I'm sorry. Though we can see you and the bundles, right now the goal of your work is hidden from us. Could you describe it?"
"Now why else would I be moving bundles back and forth? This is a trading port, silly woman."
Scott
