ooc: How much time has gone by? Nestor still opening the arts of his child/apprentice: If this is a new season, he can leave her at home, otherwise, he'll take her with him, hoping to finish opening the arts onboard the ship.
OOC: Yes it is the same season. This story will not (I think) interrupt seasonal activities as I am just introducing all the fractions in this games early part.
Under magus Polycarpus careful spells the magi travel to Naxos. The weather is good for traveling and the magi sail in a small vessel that is used for express retrieval of mystical ingredients for the magi’s laboratory work. A few hours from the covenant one of the seamen cry out and point towards the water. Sea serpent! For a few moments a large dorsal fin can be seen rippling through the water.
Kalliste looks around to see if there are any dolphins or others around here. She might be able to speak to the sea serpent if it comes up. If it is not friendly, well this is why she has a spell to create fried kalamari.
Nestor orders his daughter to go under deck.
There are no dolphins within sight. A thud can be heard form bellow. It sounds as if the sea serpent attacked the hull from beneath. Then there is another thud and a most disturbing sound can be heard from the wood in the ships bottom.
Kalliste starts casting pilums of fire into the water. The hot heat might hit the creature or at least deter it. Even though the sea will quickly cool, the momentary hot spots might drive the creature off or cause a head to be seen.
OOC: I edited post to put in rolls for 7 pilums: CT is 21 + penetration of 3 for ignem
Penetrations are as follows: 17, 17, 13, 12, 14, 13 17 + aura. Goal is to discourage the beast, not really hurt it.
Nestor rushes below deck. His first priority is saving his daughter.
The bolts of fire tear through the surface of the water. Nothing apparent can be seen as the result of the fire spells. Nestor can hear his daughter screaming with fear. It seems as if the hull beneath deck has taken some damage. Not enough to sink the ship right away but if the beast beneath the boat attacks again there is a significant risk that the sailors will sleep with the fishes. By the look of the wood it seems as if some mystical power is at work as it has weakened the wood in a way that would not occur by a very large serpent smashing against the woodwork.
Up on the deck the sailors is trying to do their best to sail the ship as fast as possible towards the nearest piece of land there is. It is clear that they are fearing for their life.
When Nestor finds his daughter, he casts an improvised spell on her to give her gills so she can breathe water, too. Then he tells her to stay with him.
They then check the hull for major leaks.
OOC: I hope this spell Is like eye of the cat (MuCo5, there may be an extra level needed because she can still breathe air).
invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2871893/ he rolls a 9.
This is 7 Co + 5 Mu + 2 loud and wild gestures + 9 roll = 23 (so it even works if it is lvl10)
If he sees the beast he'll try to PeVi it (using his spells Fairie's Eternal Oblivion PeVi15, +19 or Dragon's Eternal Oblivion PeVi15, +19. He asks his Wise owl familiar which is a good spell to try first)
Kalliste heads below deck and looking for damage, she spontaneously causes the wood to be restored in places where it looks the weakest. She will have to do this as formulaic some day. She knows that once ship is sure to make it port, she will then see about luring the beast away. Almost nothing can swim as fast as a dolphin.
OOC: spells are 2 minutes apart to avoid fatigue (unless I lack time). I assume 5 is enough
(Base 2 (processed plant part), +2 sun, +1 touch, +1 part) = level 10 for spell to restore wood in damaged spots.
Casting Total=17 Creo, 3 herbam, 2 stamina = 22+roll/2
Spell 1: 22 + 0 (8) = 22/2 = 11
Spell 2: 22 + 2 = 24/2 = 12
Spell 3: 22 + 7 = 29/2 = 14
Spell 4: 22 + 2 = 24/2 = 12
Spell 5: 22 + 5 = 27/2 = 13

The owl guess that it is a creature of the magical realm, but it is a guess. There are no major leaks just over all damage. There is no sound of a new attack. Nestor’s daughter seems scared from her wits, at least for now. On the deck there is a scream coming from the men.
Nestor realises that rushing up and down is inefficient. He says or rather tries to say: "Ka, Ka, Ka", when he realizes that he has forgotten the Bjornaerish Tytalus' maga's name once again. "Dear colleague," he finally manages, "I think I have a spell to fight our attacker, and I am useless with repairing ships. My chances of survival on the deck are higher too, since I can't shapeshift."
Nestor rushes up again - daughter in tow - warning her too stay cool and close to the mast because there is a monster attacking the ship. He looks around, but sees nobody he could hand the daughter to.
He goes to the side of the ship. If the beast shows, he will cast a Dragon's Oblivion spell on it - shouting and gesturing and spending confidence.
ooc: that name forgetting flaw is fun!
the daughter - affected by the forgetting stuff side-effect of Nestior's spellcasting, may become calmer or even more scared by seeing the monster for the first time again.
How many magi are we?
I assume he loses a (second) fatigue level because of all his running around.
The seamen are in shock upon the deck. When Nestor comes up on the surface one of the seamen points towards the sea. The beast took young Adnan. He where to close to the edge when the serpent snatched him. There is some blood near the place where Adnan where presumably attacked.Nestor’s daughter have calmed down somewhat.
OOC: It is Nestor and Kalliste on the ship. Polycarpus takes care of the covenant. THe rest of the magi are... somewhere.
Nestor rushes to the side of the ship and casts Dragon's Oblivion on the Serpent knowing that , gesturing wildly and sgouting at the top of his lungs.
ooc: Nestor cpends up to 2 confidence points to hit the serpent
Roll 5 (invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2882558/) + 19 spell + 2 loud/gestures + 6 confidence + 2 sta + aura = 29 + aura
edit :forgot Stamina
Kalliste stays making sure the hull will be intact when it gets to shore. Her creo spells perhaps countering any perdo effect of the beast.
There is no aura here that affects magic. The blast goes of hitting the sea serpent making it way with the prey. The serpent seems to have been slain by the blast, its foul apparition is withering away. The seamen start to haul out a small boat to go looking for the serpent’s victim. The young man can be seen floating next to where the serpent where slain.
Nestor orders the seamen to bring both the body and the serpent on board. He wants to check if the young man is truly dead (and make sure he gets a decent burial) and checks the serpent for vis.
Moments later the seamen returns with the young man who is close to death due to his large wound. He is bleeding and will not live for long. The seamen had to dive into the water to fish for the serpent. It seems as if the serpent corpse belongs to a youngling and not a full grown sea serpent.
OOC: Does not might stripping spells destroy what ever vis there is in a corpse? If not then there will be two pawns of aquam vis in the fin on the serpents head.
By the time the seamen had gotten the sailor on deck, Kalliste had finished in the hold and come up herself. She sees the near death sailor and can't allow that. First thing she does is cast a spell to strengthen his healing capacity and then a second one that he will not get worse until they get somewhere better suited to clean his wounds. This is part of why despite her gift, the sailors of the covenant like when Kalliste travels with them. The wounded get tended that they can learn from the experience.
OOC: Purification of the festering wound for +9 to recovery rolls and then bind wounds to stablize him for now while I clean things up.
Chirurgy 3 (specialty binding wounds) as well if that makes difference) to tending him.
Kalliste can save the young man and the journey can continue. How do you intend to approach Naxos?
OOC: Is a loyalty bonus of +15 too much for these actions? After all you saved the ship and one of the crew men.
