Edit - only one of Caput's companions is skilled enough to form a trained group with him. I've modified the below to adjust for that. What the two more skilled do is form group, and protect the archer as if they're shield-grogs. I've also rolled some dice to speed things up for storyguide should this go beyond words.
Caput signals his warrior sailor to form to his left, and his archer sailor to cover their backs. Both get their clubs ready. Caput does not draw steel yet (as he can always bring his sword into his hand instantly with a command word) .
They turn and face their pursuers. Caput does his best to radiate confidence.
"I'm always willing to talk, with words or with steel, should that be required. I feel it is only fair to warn you that you are outnumbered 3 to 5. That is the only warning you will get should you choose to abandon speech."
"Who are you and why do you disturb our evening?"

If this is a simple roll, I did well (15). If a stress roll, I botched. (second roll also a 0). Perhaps the joke didn't translate well.
Stuff that matters if a fight starts: (somewhat more likely if I botched intimidate)
He'll activate his talisman to instantly teleport his weapon to his hand as his one magic item use in first round of combat
He'll fight as trained group with himself as vanguard+leader, his warrior grog raising overall defense by +3. The archer grog is in the role of "defended" by the two of them, but will be ready to form group with the warrior if Caput is somehow defeated.
base stats are: speed+5 attack+18 defense +17 damage +9
in the first round he'll use a confidence point on initiative (+3 to roll) and exert himself against their vanguard (or the leader if they don't fight as a group). With those modifications, his first round attack is spd+8 attack+28 def+17 dmg+9. Hopefully this will at least wound him (and one of his companions), reducing their attack chances further.
Initiative roll is 13

defense roll (if needed) is 25

If the vanguard survives the initial lunge long enough to counter attack, I'll attempt to fastcast Panic of the Trembling Heart on the vanguard, making him afraid of me. (should the vanguard drop but they still try to attack, he'll do it on whomever first swings at his group) Should they break/run, I will let them go and won't hinder any efforts to carry away wounded. I won't try to kill/coup de grace but if they take a lethal wound, I won't cry about it either.

Had I been smart, I would have cast wizard's sidestep while they were still following, but Caput can't bring himself to believe he really is in any danger here.
