Chapter 5a - Of Ancient Days and Long Lost Nights

That I need to look up and refer to text. I will let you know

NVM, I don't understand provencal unless French (occitan dialect) or Spanish (castillan dialect) apply

You can use Occitain at a -3 penalty (as per the rules for dialects and related languages), for functional communication. Otherwise, your spells that clarify memory can be used in conjunction with Vares and his Posing the Silent Question in order to get more accurate answers.

This totally does work, I looked it up. I will figure out what else she would be able to tell you, and post it tomorrow

Arwan, a posted sheet is better than a non-posted sheet, so we will revise it as we go and push the story forward.

You are able to “cure” Linda’s fear for now, and it hasn’t spread to any of you .

Octavian, I am looking at your Mentem spells, and I think they will be effective for your purpose. I mean, somewhat. She is not altogether bright or knowledgeable to begin with. But she has a fascinating tale to tell (what you can understand of it, I will try to emulate the language penalty  ).

The “Watchers” live across the dark valley in the black tower. Sometimes others, the “Others” would come to visit, and stay at this house. But that was in the before time, a generation ago. No one has seen them for a very long time, but then some time ago two of them came out of this very house, and after that was the Coming of the Fear. She calls the first one the Dark Watcher, and says he was being chased by a Bright One full of flames. They battled here, and the Bright Watcher was nearly victorious. But the Dark One summoned the Fear. The Fear was the most horrifying thing anyone had ever seen, for they all saw it, and the Fear spread. The right Watcher was defeated and fled back into the house, the Dark Watcher fled into the night, and the Fear became the town. The people went insane. Some committed suicide out of despair, others went on rampages of madness lashing out at everything, others screamed and pulled out their hair, and on and on. Everyone became the Fear. Except the children. They weren’t affected. So some people began to fear the children, others became violent against them, she tried to hide her child. She panicked when he wandered outside, ran out to catch him, but then she realized that the children must be the ones responsible for this. She knows know how delusional her thinking was, and has been, and is profusely grateful to the “Ghostly Watcher” (Octavian) for saving her baby from her insanity. Perhaps it is the inspired bravery, but she is able to look directly into his terrifying eyes with admiration and respect.

Inigo, you are still scouting around invisibly. As I said, you heard a sound around the corner. You investigate, and you spot a child that has climbed up on the roof of a house, and his hiding behind a chimney. He looks to be about 8.

I'll use my talisman to fly up to the child, staying invisible and keeping an eye on him while looking out for other dangers. What's he doing?

If it doesn't look like he's in any immediate danger, I'll drop my invisibility and greet him.

[color=red]Hello, lad! What're you doing here? Where are your parents?

He appears to have been posted as a lookout. And your sudden appearance startles him! Sure of foot, he is in no immediate danger of falling. But he his holding a big stick, and he takes a swing at you while shouting an alarm.

(if you understand his language)[color=red]G'rupp! G'rupp! There is a G'rupp on the roof!! Everyone hide!!

After listening to the woman's tale, he will spont cast a CrIm only the image of Metron from memory

"Is this the Dark Watcher?"

I secretly rolled a die for you. The botch danger here is enormous. But you are safe, and you create an image of Metron...

[color=red]Madre de Dios!
Okay, she is not speaking Spanish , but I don't know Provencal.

Yes, her fear and anger are barely contained. She positively ID's your image of Metron as the "Dark Watcher".

(with the aura and my talisman I think I might have been ok without expending fatique and performing the roll. Heh it doesn't matter  )

The image fades away into nothingness. "Do you know where we can find him, or where did he go?"

She responds "The Black Valley", or in her tongue, "Val-Negra". She points off in some direction towards the road between here and there.

Is he speaking Provencal? Isn't that a subdialect of Langue D'Oc in this edition? If so, I have score of 3 (in my original character sheet I had it as a seperate language, but Jarkman had me roll it into Langue D'Oc). If not, I'm SOL.

Still under the effects of the flight spell, Inigo flies back, out of the way and off the roof entirely. If that's not fast enough, he'll fast-cast Wizard's Leap to get out of the way, and then fly up out of reach of the stick.

[color=red]Calm down, lad. You seem quite the warrior, but you're in no danger from me. What do you fear?

(OOC I assume the portal is functional on this side and that we can activate it?)

They are all dialects of the same parent tongue. You can communicate with limited effectiveness.

He responds [color=red]I ain't scared of nothing! 'Specially not Grown Ups! . His bravery and ferocity are to be admired

Then you feel something "ping" off of your Parma. Some weak effect, from some unknown direction, it bounces of your Parma Magica and is resisted. Something Mentem related you are guessing.

Yes. Noscure the Cat runs a test on it, exitng and reenteeering.

Listening to the woman's tale about what has transpired in the valley, Vares mulls over the source of 'the Fear'. Even Ritual spells need to be renewed after a year. And the Warping effect of this place should have changed the inhabitants by now... Yet 'the Fear' doesn't seem to be a product of Warping.

"What happens when the children grow older? Does 'the Fear' affect them, eventually?"

She seems inable to grasp the concept of "growing older", nor does she understand concepts such as "year" or the passage of time. She understands "seasons" and the progression of seasons, but she views the progression as a loop rather than a line.

She ponders for a moment, and mentions that she has heard tales of such things in the before time, and will admit that she was once a child. But that was the "before time", things were different then.

Everyone make a Magic Lore + Int roll. If you score a 6+, you know of the theory that states time does not pass in the Magic Realm. This is not a proven fact, just a Theory (but that is what RoP-Magic states).

Octavian looks to Noscur and converses with him in Latin. "I believe it would be wise to escort this woman out of this regio and back to Barcelona. Would master Carles be able to offer her lodging?"

(OOC: I don,t have magic lore so I auto fail the roll)

Yes you do
And perhaps I shoud not give away so much, but the Magic Relm rules are still relativly new to me, so I am disclosing a little more than normal in order to share my thinking and get your input. Any one else have RpP-Magic? Feel free to engage me in OCC conversation as to how the environment should be handled.

Noscur replies [color=red]Um, I don't think so. We don't have secure holding facilities or anything like that. Heck, we don't even have enough of a private area for visiting members of the Order! And I am sure Farusca will not e too keen on the idea of taking in refugees from Val-Negra.

He states calmly in a firm tone. "I would hear about the events that master Carles referred to in regards to master Trentus."

Noscur: "From what I know, Trentus has always been a pain for Barcelona. Did you ever hear about his gauntlet? Ah, nevermind. Anyway, during the Shadow War, Trentus became obsessed with the idea of atonement, and took it upon himself to hunt down the Flaming Shadows. Trentus claims that one of them was hiding in Barcelona, veiled by Infernal disguise, and was holed up in the Silver Rooster. He was right, some second rate buffoon, Meteoron or some such (Metran? Metro? Meter? I forget  ) was indeed hiding out at the Inn. Trentus caught him, and they commenced brawling right there on the spot."
