Akoe will watch Mr. Gaudy take flight, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. He'll shrug his shoulders and walk over to pick up the fallen sword.
Akoe will walk up beside Lady Sinmore, lean over the rail, and yell, "Guillermo! Get our captain to swing around back here! He needs to do something today other than run.
Sodales. I think we can show ourselves now. They probably won't come near the boat if they see a bunch of learned men suddenly appear there.
If you can save me one or two of those pirates, I would be obliged to you."
Akoe will turn to Lady Sinmore, "Ah beautiful Lady. Please accept this small token of my affection." and offer her the pirate's sword. "I realize it is not as fine as your Little Sister, but perhaps you can use it to butter your bread.
Akoe, you and Sinmore are more or less separated by burngin galley at this point - if you want to move towards her, I'll need Dex+Athletics to avoid the flames.
Octavius gestures, and a chunk of sand appears at the foredeck of the galley, burying a few of the burning archer corpses. The galley gives a lurch. 30 cubic paces - @3x3x3, enough to swamp a large campire, maybe, but not a burning ship. Also, sand is heavy - cool idea though.
Elarion Panics a few of the closest pirates. Twitiching and stuttering, they sink beneath the waves. You can see their panicked faces, and the bubbles, for far longer than is comfortable . . .
Claudius achieves the same effect, but at least his victims don't thrash so much on their way down . . .
Cold, people. You are cold . . .
Sinmore conjures flame and looms threateningly, but the effect seems to be lost on the pirates below.
The galley continues to burn, and the fires are spreading. Akoe and Sinmore, you begin to hear some disturbing creaks from below deck.
Also, I've been working on the assumption that Guillermo is still aboard the main vessel. It too seems to have stopped in the distance.
Sinmore hummphs and snuffs the flames in her hand when it seems the swimming pirates won't be able to swamp the rowboat. Turning around she sees the ship might be in bad shape. She cracks her knuckles and shakes out her hair as she gets ready to try and put out some of the fires. She smiles wryly at the sight of the sand on the deck.
Her voice raises in timber, as if she's calling to all the flames on the boat to heed their mistress as she commands the flames to die.
Spontaneous Pe Ig with Fatigue (2nd Fatigue she's spent so far). She is targetting the largest fire on the deck, so Target is Individual and I figure +1 for its Size
Pe 3, Ig 15+3, Sta +4, Grand Gestures +1, Booming Voice +1 = 27
R: V D: M T: I (+1 higher due to size) base 4, total intended level 15
Seeing that his efforts to smother the flames on the ship didn't work quite as well as he planned, Octavius looks around the boat he is sitting in to the pirates in the water. Disturbed by the sight of all those men sinking to thier deaths, he reaches out over the side of the boat to grab a sleeping pirate in an attempt to keep the man's head above water.
Working together, Claudius and Octavius manage to rescue a few of the pirates, securing them with rope they find in the boat. Most, however, slip (or twitch, as the case may be) beneath the waves.
Akoe hoists the pirate's sword, and glances around. Most of the ship is aflame, and at least on the upper deck, there's not much to see. The gangway the pirate officer emerged from is still free of visible fire, though smoke is pouring out of it, and it is clear that at least part of the lower deck is afire.
Sinmore grunts with effort, and her brow begins to glisten (Ladies glisten, men sweat). For an instant, the flames on the foredeck diminish, but then come roaring back. She hears popping noises below deck.
. "Akoe!" she calls, peering through the smoke and flames. "The ship is lost! Time to go!"
Akoe is staring at the gangway when he hears Lady Sinmore's voice. He hesitates a moment, weighing sense against curiousity. After a moment, sense wins out: Sinmore should know how to gauge the level of the fire, and if his sodales have taken any prisoners, he can learn what he wants to know from them.
Sinmore's path to climb down is clear, though Akoe cannot get to her without runnning risk of the flames. He is not in immediate danger, though the flames are growing closer . . .
Sinmore sees that Akoe will have difficulty making it and heaves a sigh, more to get her wind back then from any exasperation. She immediately heads to him, heedless of the flames. Along the way she clears the path as much as possible.
She will cast the previous spell she was using, touching fires and putting them out spontaneously. She's adding Grand Gestures as she has a penalty to her total from the additional fatigue. She should still be able to cast the spell without fatigue or risk. She'll try to cast it at least twice before reaching Akoe.
Upon reaching him she grabs him up like a mother to her child, smothering him in a huge bear hug.
"Forgive my familiarity Sodales, but we have to leave, and I'd hate for you to be burned by a fire of my doing. Let's go!"
From somewhere between Lady Sinmore's armpit and points further east, Akoe will say in a loud, muffled voice, "I would not dream of refusing your courtesy."
Elarion shouts from the boat, "Time to go, Sodales!" Sitting in the boat below, he'll try to keep it close to the side of the pirate ship and prepares to help any of his colleagues who slip into the water.
Heaving another sopping wet pirate out of the water, Octavius shakes his head slowly as he replies to Claudius, "I have never been in battle before. You hear stories, but..." he gives a shrug and concentrates on his task of roping the pirate's wrists together. "I guess I am just not a warrior."
Octavius becomes intent on his self appointed salvation effort, quietly fishing pirates out of the water. Rubbing the sweat from his forehead after making sure another man is secure, he scans the water once more for any survivors, but does not see any. Resigned, Octavius lifts his head to gaze once more at the firey inferno that was once a mightly ship. "What have I done?" he asks himself, in a voice so quiet that it is barely heard by someone even right next to him.
Just want to say there's been some stellar role-playing gang.
Sinmore's armpit seems a safe enough refuge for Akoe, and the two magi make their way down to the boat safely. Between the Magi, Sinmore, and the extra pirates, the baot lies low in the water, but she's seaworthy. In the distance, you can see the Dorado beating against the wind, slowly approaching. As you pull away from the galley, now roaring with flame, you notice an odd sight in the water.
A chest, bobbing in the waves, is gripped by a female figure. Dressed in a manner completely different from one of the pirates, she clings to the chest, though it seems clear she is close to the limits of her strength. Your path is bringing you directly towards her . . . .
Claudius is a little worried about getting the chest himself; he's already done some spontaneous magic and doesn't want to be too fatigued. If no one else is willing, though, he'll Rego Corpus the mystery woman.
