Character Creation: General Discussion

Oh, I thought you were inclined to drop it. Then, just forget everything else I said. ^^

Sorry, I was totally unclear there. I meant I was thinking of keeping Close Family Ties when dropping Unusually Fecund.

If you keep Unusually Fecund you could also simply switch to the character being a man, and be less impacted by it as to your ability to adventure.

True, but that messes with my interest in Madres and Matrones, which isn't open to men.

If you're good with the reskinning of Magian -> Druid (same Virtue, just swapping one ancient magical priest type for another), I'll make the swap I'd suggested:

Affinity with Magic Theory, Lesser Benediction, Minor Magical Focus, Unaging --> Major Magian Lineage (reskinned to Major Druidic Lineage) and Puissant Finesse.

She should be a lot more useful to the covenant this way, as she should be able to become pretty strong in certamen.

I have no problem reskinning virtues to alternate lore themes.

Great. I'll go that route, then. Do you want me to create the new thread? I've got it set up, or I can paste things into one you make. Either way.

Let me know when you don't want the old one anymore.

Also, is the group expectations post still good for this version?

I'll edit it. It's not so far off, but it needs some tweaks.

For everyone, a recent Citation that could affect Area Lore usage/decisions.

Alrighty, so it's entirely @RafaelB's and @callen's fault for sending me down this road. The talk about Gruagach got me reading them again. Which led me to the Trollsynir. Which made me develop a gifted Ex-Misc tradition of them. So this is entirely not my fault, and I blame everyone else.

Should have a virtues/flaws spread up either today, or first thing tomorrow. But let's just say Giant Blooded School of Ramius chap running around with a bunch of his closest friends, more strength than he should have, and whacking people with a sword. Also, I've now gone down the rabbit hole that is the Gallowglass, so that's fun.

Don't worry man, I just want to see the sheet. The whole sheet and nothing but the sheet.

Well and the background.

Now that Einar is settled, I've thought about a variant of the idea I'd had before. I'm thinking of a traveling/warrior companion for Einar. Roughly speaking, this is the ArM5 version of the DnD bard, but not actually an Irish bard at all.

At some time he met Einar, this great giant warrior with magical prowess and felt a mix of kinship and admiration. So he started following Einar (including following him out of Faerie) around, assisting as he could or just playing music (Irish Cruit - a plucked lyre) for everyone's enjoyment. When he fights, he wields a sword and an Irish shield. He has a lot of his own magic of Faerie origins.

Affinity with Music [1]
Enchantment [3]
Faerie Background: Men (+) / Women (-) [0]
Faerie Sympathy: Music [1]
Flight [1]
Grant [1]
Strong Faerie God Blood: Goibniu [3] - Faerie Sympathy: Weapons

Driven [-3] - Join House ex Miscellanea, now that he knows what that is.
Faerie Heritage [-3] - He doesn't know it, but his birth and upbringing were manufactured, and now he's being watched to see if he is worthy.
Faerie Upbringing [-1]
No Sense of Direction [-1] - This is how faeries in the past have led him so easily.
No Tradition / Non-Traditional w/ Faerie? [-1] - I didn't spot the Faerie equivalent of the Divine/Infernal Flaw, so I'm not sure if this is valid or not.
Traditional Ward [-1] - I'm debating between some

I think my mage is basically done. I haven't checked on the companion alchemist / learned magician is going, though.

Character concept-wise for the alchemist, Donnchad was born to a prosperous Brehon family in Thomond, and sent to Bologna to study canon law. There he was recruited by a circle of Learned Magicians and was initiated into their alchemy. Restless with pure scholarship, he joined the Hospitallers as a Confrere, putting his alchemy to practical use protecting his brothers-in-arms. Mount Tabor (1217) shattered his idealism about the crusading cause, and on returning to Ireland he again watched the Order turn its charitable mission into a weapon of the Anglo-Norman conquest. He left the Hospitallers, searching for a place where his knowledge and abilities could find better use.

Any thoughts for how/why an individual with this background could form a connection with Ciara? Maybe he somehow learned of Hermetic Longevity Rituals, and Ciara's expertise, and offered his alchemy skills in return for learning more about it? Not that he can actually do something with that knowledge. Also, I've started detailing more of his background and his design over here. Is it weird to use the same name as someone in her background? I just saw it after rereading her development thread.

He's definitely from a different part of Ireland than she is. But if he had started out seeking a patron, her father is a king (not the scale of kings in most countries). Meanwhile, she's still regularly in contact with her family, so if Donnchad had sought out her father, they might have started talking about alchemy, Longevity Rituals, etc., and have found enough common interest that she could be his patron rather than her father.

Nah. Lots of people have the same name.

Sing songs of my victories skald! And by that I mean, I'm all for it mate, looks fantastic.

Speaking of companions, @Emelric I'm hoping to have a rough draft for you early next week.

Exactly!

I did discover he won't start using a shield and sword, as he doesn't have any Virtue or Flaw to give him Martial Abilities. So he'll start with Brawl. But he'll try to get trained in the covenant.

Meanwhile, he can do some good buffing, himself, given some time. You should find him super-useful.
