character design and development

It would appear Aroldo got his longevity ritual in winter, and got his dex increased by 2 in the fall. Gloriana will gain the flaw Lycanthrope
regarding a LR that does not render one infertile, I'm going to consider that a hermetic breakthrough since the infertility is not just a part of the LR, but also an common aspect of a number of magical things, and the limitation seems to border on but not quite cross into the limit of the divine.

Thanks, I think! Poor Gloriana, now she's a werewolf, with the full moon? Or something else? Time to make a cage and other arrangements, how embarrassing for her!

Good thing for Aroldo, thought for a moment he would become a fleshy monster from a horror movie. His LR is level 14 for him, as he has no magical abilities.

Wow, did not know that was a Hermetic Breakthrough, oof, no wonder those researchers in the Alps have gotten nowhere! So, still some points to go? Does she feel close, or still so far...

oh she feels close, of course, she has felt close for quite a while...
actually, I'm going to give it to you at 55 points- it is a hermetic breakthrough but slightly on the easy side of that...
of course, this doesn't restore fertility from past longevity rituals...

Hehehe, that means Aroldo is still fertile! But since his wife isn't, unless he's unfaithful...

Woohoo! She has 57, so made her mark. Now she just needs to return from Twilight after Spring 1145, discover and deal with her new infirmity, find some way to deal with her quickly accumulating Warping, or she'll never make it to 1220.

this is part of why I was worried about people taking their final apprentices so quickly. I had originally assumed people would take the first 40-60 years building up teachers and then take the apprentices. If more people end up in a similar boat we may go multi-generational, although that prevents you from having the house you wanted if another character trains you...

Well, it is not a huge problem, mind you, just something to consider. Remember that this was callen's character that I picked up, I did not create a student for me to play later; so I am happy to keep playing her as long as she lasts, sure he meant for her to go Becoming with a Lab Total of 200+, but given the rules on Warping (10 is a hard ceiling) for the Saga, and that raising Faerie Magic to 20+ to compensate borders on the foolhardy (the Lab Total's not the problem, the limit of Warping x Faerie Magic is), not sure yet if Becoming is the right path (and she would be loath to destroy her bond with her awesome Familiar). She's already in two Cults, and although her strengths align perfectly with the Hermetic Alchemy Cults, not sure if it's feasible to start on that route and get to the end, to Transform into a Being of Magic before Warping does her in. Ascension is even more difficult...although she is on the path to birth more family members who could aid her in the Quest. Hmm. I'm always giving it some thought.

You can add ordeals for the Becoming. You could just burn a lot of virtues, especially since you have people like Anna's children floating around with their Grant "improved characteristics" power! Also when you finally hit Transforming the Soul you no longer need concern yourself with warping! Or you could just go straight for Transformed Human.

Anna plans to just avoid as much warping while improving her living conditions and stacking other modifiers.

Alternatively, have you considered the [strike]Infernal art of Ablation[/strike] rewards given by God for destroying demons as a Witch Hammer? You can get a sweet, sweet [strike]infernal[/strike] Might score.

Or you could mug a Sahir and make them teach you the art of their fancy youth potion. No warping required! Just try not to accidentally mug a Sahir that's actually a demon.

Gloriana's afraid of the Infernal and uninterested in the Divine!
Sahirs and their elixirs are awesome, and appropriate to her research, but not really a viable route, they still accumulate Warping, do they not? Never could fathom how people propose immortal sahir, don't they inevitably accumulate multiple permanent Personality Flaws to the level of derangements?
Yep, I considered the Ordeals, but losing multiple Granted Virtues seems, ahh, cheesy, to the point that I had not even dared bring it up! Going in multiple adventures until the familiar earns enough to Grant Transformed Being, also seems "easy" in the sense of Long-Term advancement. 12 adventures, 5 xp per adventure, 60 points, Ritual Power x2, presto. Have Ibis start concocting Improved Might summae/tractati (haven't delved into how these work for magical beings), and can even get some might. Plus Greater Immunity to Perdo Vim might strippers!
Thanks, will ponder all of this.

They can choose between multiple negative effects with their Elixir of Life. Theoretically they can just lose XP and get it back with practice. They can also choose to get warping, but that invariably increases their corruption score, but a Sahir who is built to take advantage of it can also swing some pretty major bonuses. They can choose to get the eccentric trait, but it is not required. Or they can get flaws, but umm... don't do that.

Assuming they don't die from some other method, they can study their Alchemy and Medicine fast enough, and keep their actual age low enough they hit actuarial escape velocity.

Also some Sahirs have Ablation which allows them to get Infernal Might and Binding which can straight up stop aging.

Ok, good, had not read up well on the elixirs, then, though I did see the Immortal sahir thread.

Binding also incurs Warping, though, if I recall correctly. Anyway none of them Infernal routes for Gloriana! :frowning:

I think it was bound to happen, since people were eager to play the characters they introduced. I was pretty certain when I joined in (late) that people were going to be pretty advanced and late in years when we approach the switching time. Really, I'm actually finding the fast advancement period quite well geared towards the online forum format.

If a former player may step in for a moment..
I remember when we started, everyone was so eager to start their apprentice and I remember feeling frustrated at how long it took for Giovanni to get his Arts opened (a whole 13 years!). I think everyone was expecting to be close to 100 years post-gauntlet when we got to 1220. Thinking about it now, if we had all waited a few decades while teachers were built up and then took apprentices we'd all have had many more options opened and a lot of books available post-gauntlet, but not get the chance to be elderly archmagi at 1220.

Oh well, you live and learn. If anyone ever runs a game with a long build-up period in the future, we must remember to discuss the plan of when people are expecting to take apprentices and expected final ages of magi. Not to worry, a multi-generation covenant may make game balance tougher but it will create a more realistic covenant.

AURTHOR
Spring
New attempt to invent the vis-less version of GENTLE TOUCH OF THE PURIFIED BODY (CrCo 20) (he gained an insight in 1142):
Risk modifier: 0
Final LT: CrCo 67 + orokos.com/roll/698906: 5 = 73
1st roll for extraordinary results: orokos.com/roll/698906: 3 > No extraordinary effects
2nd roll for extraordinary results: orokos.com/roll/698909: 7 > No benefit
This time Aurthor can invent the spell without problems.
Fall
Invent CrCo spells from lab texts: Swindling the Reaper (CrCo 40), Restoration of the Defiled Body (CrCo 20), Charm Against Putrefaction (CrCo 10).
Winter
Aurthor casts the Aegis ritual (ReVi 25) getting a penetration of 25.
orokos.com/roll/698912 7: 0 + Sta 3 + Re 20 + Vi 14 + Aura 7 + Phi 2 + AL 4 = 50
The cautious sorcerer virtue and a strong familiar bond allow Aurthor to roll only one botch die, but maybe it is time for him to read the summa on Aegis' mastery in the library to avoid unnecessary risks.

PAZZINO
I realize now that Pazzino has reached (and surpassed) a Warping score of 3 acquiring then a second flaw from his longevity ritual, what flaw would be appropriate silveroak?

silveroak, couple of questions if you don't mind:

•Sybilla can Create low-level Wondrous items with Craft Weaving fairly easily. Can she create more than 1/season if she can beat the difficulty of both items combined? Thinking of creating clothing that changes appearance or color, or both, could be a big hit (for specific people, obviously).

•Danaë wants to start Initiating into Solomonic Arts. She has a good rep with the Order of S, with jinns in general, and vis to pay for it; so is this a separate quest, or should she just declare a jinn Quest and spend points accordingly to get a powerful jinn? Also, this would take a whole Season, as she is Ungifted. She would also later want to find good books or Teachers for the Solomonic Arts, should she declare quests for these as well?

in the rules "it takes at least one season to create a wondrous item" so no

whether it is a separate quest or a side benefit of a jinn quest, you will need to find a mystagogue to perform the initiation- generally this would require a quest in and of itself, but between the nature of the OoS and your already established history with it I will say it would be a single reward for you, after which the initiation process will begin according to the scripts of that mystagogue.

Pazzino beomes anchored to the city (anchored to the land flaw, with city as the type of land- includes any settled area with enough population density, such as the covenant or a large village)

Ok, thanks!

Thanks!

Note that, although called Initiation, it does not work like a Mystery, and there's no Mystagogue:
"The process involves the teacher summoning a willing spirit to carry the student, in spirit form, into the Magic Realm. During the season, the student undergoes a sort of dream journey appropriate to the spirit, while his physical body remains in the lab in a deep sleep...While the student is in this state, his teacher performs the opening ritual and calculates his Opening Total. If this is 30 or more, the student gains a Major Virtue associated with the Art of Solomon that is also possessed by the teacher, usually a Solomonic or a summoning art...Before the process is complete, the teacher spends form-appropriate vis equal to half the necessary Opening Total"

So Danaë hires a trustworthy, powerful sahir with a 30 point Opening Total, summons a jinn to defend her body as a secondary precaution, and spends a Season in this "Twilight" State, spends vis to pay the sahir, jinn, etc, and she returns with Solomonic Alchemy 0 and 2 Warping points. She wants to do this for Solomonic Travel and Solomonic Storytelling as well, maybe eventually for Physic. As I mentioned, she would also want access to some books or teachers, so she could study, she'll declare quests for this, although of course, she could simply go on many adventures and raise these the hard way.

Thanks! I will update Pazzino's wiki page accordingly.

speaking of mystery cults for the ungifted...
Lady A and Syblia have found that their value has risen within the wise woman cult, in that they are wanting someone to put pressure on Lucio not to saddle them with "unworthy" apprentices in weaving, preferring to keep that craft entirely within the cult's domain.

I wanted to see how much better mages at Praesidium Orae are. For example, Neleos has finished 15 years of apprenticeship, gaining 1,066 XP in that time, nearly 18 XP per season. This is over four times a standard apprenticeship, which stuns me at how much difference there is with a resource-rich environment. Under typical rules (1066 -240 = 826/30 = 27.53), or we'd expect him to be over 27 years past Gauntlet to have that level of development.

Neleos has 215 levels of spells, merely 80% more than standard character creation.

Edit: fixed math.

That sounds very sensible to Lady A, she will exert her charm and suggestions on Lucio on behalf of the Weavers. She suggests to the Weavers that they make one of their Wondrous items for Lucio to use, in gratitude for recognizing their supreme competence and lack of need for strict supervision in this regard.

Sybilla is eager to help the Weavers, but she's less able to influence this outcome, except by bringing this to the attention of her mother. Are the Weavers comfortable with her doing this?
