character design and development

[strike]Hmm, could you show me how you're calculating that really quick? Because by the calculations I have (and demonstrated on the previous page) he has 1,010 exp available and has used all of them? Otherwise I'll just drop concentration back down to 2.[/strike]

Screw it I'm not going to argue over 15 points, I changed concentration back down to 2

If you are age 38 you would have 1085 experience available, and have used 1070, reducing your concentration would put you at 37.
Your calculations are not taking into account arts and spells (you get 150 pts in spells at the start- 120+30 from skilled parens)- my version also does not calculate a cost for native language, but doesn't include it on either side (points available or spent)

I really don't understand where you're getting 1070 and 1085 from, to be perfectly honest, I'll run through how I got 1,010:

  • Early Childhood = 45xp
  • Apprenticeship = 240xp
  • Warrior = 50xp
  • Skilled Parens = 60xp
  • Post-Gauntlet 30xp per year 18 years = 18*30 = 540

So adding all those together, and disregarding the native language exp of 75 I get: 45 + 240 + 60 + 50 + 540 = 935 (1,010 with native language)

I am genuinely curious about what you did to get 1085, because I do not see it.

Oh wait, are you then including 150 levels of spells on top of that? I think I see it now then. In that case I changed Finesse to 3 +15 exp.

Crawfs, it's hard for me to cross-check on my cellphone. But most apprenticeships start a bit later, when the child is a few years older. I don't see the 15/year in your calculations. Did this apprenticeship star really young? (Looks like an early apprenticeship matches age 38 with 18 years past gauntlet, though.)

Yeah I basically just did apprenticeship from age 5 for this character, just after early childhood, and then gauntleted at 20, it's almost certainly far too early for most magi, but in theory the rules allow for it.

On further review- Warrior gives 50 points in combat abilities. Including brawl only 45 of your points are in combat abilities. (for Andros)
I'm still coming up with 495 points in abilities, 400 points in arts, and 175 points in spells for 1070 points where you have 1085 to spend.

I think I've finished my parens at gauntlet (age 25) except for some specialties. I still have to advance him, but now is a good time for a double-check. I think he has a reasonable spread of abilities coming out of apprenticeship.

Oh, great weapon is supposed to be score 4, in which case everything should be perfect

It's been edited now

Moving great weapon from 3 to 4 is 20 points, which puts you 5 over.

Regarding Evandrus- Elder Gild trained is exclusive to the Rhine Tribunal. How did he come to be in a Roman Tribunal Covenant spawned from a Norman chapter house?

Sorry, read that wrong, finesse is now 2(10) which should now be Andros completed.

Andros is good to go now.

Cool, thanks for the help and patience

Does Evandrus look good through apprenticeship? Just want to double check before advancing him a bunch of years and then 40 years at the covenant.

This is why I should never do things from memory.

Anyway I've scrubbed the wings out of her description and dropped the flight of the humming bird. Going the path of trying not to look too magical. I added another improved soak quality. I left temporary might in although if anyone thinks that's not cool I can take it out.

On Evandrus, did you see my question regarding Elder Gild Training? You have him supposedly tied to what is a Rhine only political faction, with an explanation in his history of leaving to move up in that organization. This character as written simply does not fit the setting, and the awkward attempt to crowbar him in does not change that. I haven't even looked at abilities because this problem needs to be fixed before there is any point in going forward.

Aegis still has an issue where they have 7 points in flaws and 9 points in virtues.

Okay, so I'm missing something here.

For virtues I see three that don't cost points. Two provided by qualities, "Greater Immunity (Perdo Vim type effects), Greater Immunity (Disease)" and "Magical Covenfolk" which is free.

Then I see seven minor virtues: Educated (1), Warrior (2), Arcane Lore (3), Independent Study (4), Book Learner (5), Apt Student (6), Second Sight (7)

For flaws I see one that provides no points: Mute.
Then I see four minor: Motion Sickness (1), Weakness (Books) (2), Worthless Abilities (3), Prohibition (4),
and then one major: Low Self-Esteem (7)

This is the page right?

I didn't get enough sleep so what am I missing?

Okay, I missed that magical covenfolk was free, and I had an improved characteristics which I'm not sure when or how it slipped in- if it was from previous versions or what... so let me check abilities...

assuming this is a summer character, you are 5 points over on abilities. Also in the nit picking, organization lore should be narrower than simply "ancient Rome", it could be the cult of Vulcan, or some other organization in ancient Rome. which is like 0.02% of actually mattering...

Looks like I may have the opportunity to also join in the fun so here is first pitch.

Vinzo ex Boniagus is a follower of the Magi Trianomae branch out the house (the political side). He is a man of faith, but also a man of magic caught between two worlds. He is a generalist with his magic but has spent the most time studying the technique of mentem.

I know Vinzo is currently just a starting frame to build a character on. I wanted to take full advantage of this game's unique setting with a political focus and being in such a religiously oriented area. Also I did not want to step on anyone's toes with their magical focus and mentem seemed both available and appropriate. I am highly considering taking "Gentle Gift" so I can reduce issues in dealing with the church.

I would appreciate any feedback on the idea. I did also considering creating him as a Jerbiton. Thanks!

The only issue with bonisagus is the complexity in character creation if it involves bonisnatching. I think Jerbiton also sounds like a wonderful possibility.

I was not planning any bonisnatching. However, I guess it could still cause problems later when we get to play apprentices. Would you prefer a Jerbiton?
