Covenant Building

I don't have Magi of Hermes, and thus don't know what Circle of Undisturbed Rest, Wizard's Expanion, The Patient Spell, and To See As Through a Plethron Distant do. Likewise with Transforming Mythic Europe and Woolen Steed of Araby and Vessel of the Clouds.

Don't forget that I've posted a link (on the Character Generation and Advancement wiki page) to all the Ars Magica books I have. And, when in doubt, if it's spells that aren't in the main books (AM5, the HoH books, or Covenants), it never hurts to put a page reference for the spells.

Understood, will do, updated with pages,

  • [7] Lab Text (Spell) - Haunt of the Living Ghost (CrIm/In 35), Ars 144

  • [1] Lab Text (spell) -
Circle of Undisturbed Rest (ReIm 5), MoH 30
    R: Touch, D: Ring, T: Circle
Stops noises from leaving the circle for a good night's sleep, and your crew can't be overheard.
"This large circle spell is meant to be used around an encampment. The circle prevents iconic and echoic species from leaving the circle, making the encampment undetectable. Perfect for ensuring privacy in unfamiliar territories, it does leave the camp as a silent black area; this is normally enough at night, when everything is dark"
    (Base 1, +2 Ring, +1 Touch, +1 additional sense)

  • [2] Lab Text (Spell) - Exactly to Scale (ReAq/Me 10), HoH:TL 139 -- creates an image in ink from a mental picture

  • [6] Lab Text (spell) - Master's Message (ReVi 30 gen), Projects 81 -- Touch range OtIT.

  • [4] Lab Text (spell) - Ambush in the Deserted Road (PeIm 20), HoH:S 64 -- Conceals a group so they are unnoticeable

  • [5] Lab Text (spell) -

Wizard's Expansion (Corpus)(MuVi 25 Gen), MoH 113
The Target of the targeted spell increases by one category; all targets affected by the expanded spell must be legal targets for the original spell. There are ten
versions of Wizard’s Expansion, one for each form. The targeted spell must be at least one magnitude lower than this spell.
(Base effect, +2 Voice)

  • [5] Lab Text (spell)

The Patient Spell (ReVi 25 Gen), MoH 113
R: Touch, D: Conc, T: Ind
Holds a spell taking from effect while the wizard concentrates. Must pass an Int + Conc vs 9 to cast. If successful the spell is held for duration:Conc. A spell held using The Patient Spell may be released to interrupt an action in the same manner as a fast cast spell, requiring the same “fast casting” roll of Quickness + Finesse.
(Base effect, +1 Touch, + 1 Concentration)

  • [3] Lab Text (spell) -

Woolen Steed of Araby (ReAn 15), Trans ME 111
R: Touch, D: Sun, T: Ind
Makes an animal skin/carpet fly, carrying the caster and only 1 point of Enc. Int+Fin required to change speed/course, 6 for walking speed, 12 for moderate, 15 for running horse speed
(Base 1, +1 Touch, +2 Sun, +1 unsupported surface, +1 for any direction, +1 for increased speed)

  • [6] Lab Text (spell) -

Vessel of the Clouds (ReHe 30), Trans ME 111
R: Touch, D: Sun, T: Ind
Makes a small boat fly, carrying 50 load (a person + gear is approx 21 load). Int+Fin required to change speed/course,
(Base 3, + 1 Touch, +2 Sun, +1 Size, +1 unsupported surface, +1 for any direction, +1 for increased speed)

  • [5] Lab Text (spell)
To See as Through a Plethron Distant (InIm 25), MoH 101
    R: Sight, D: Conc, T: Special
See/hear what is happening at a point in the distance you can see
Moving the viewpoint requires a Simple Stamina + Concentration vs 6
(Base 2, +3 Sight, +1 Concentration, +3 Special target based on Room +1)

Yes, but I still don't have Magi of Hermes or Transforming Mythic Europe. What I need for the spells from those books are spell descriptions and how they're built.

I'll update the above with a short summary and breakdown for each.

Thank you.

On the Wizard's Expansion, just to make sure I'm understanding correctly. If you cast it on a spell with a T: Individual, that raises the Target by one magnitude, to Part? Doesn't sound very useful.

On Circle of Undisturbed Rest: I'm not finding a Base 1 guideline for Rego Imaginem in the book or on the spell guidelines download (which, admittedly, is three years out-of-date); is that a new guideline from Magi of Hermes?

I thought the intent for Wizards Expansion was to allow what you've indicated which I agree has a very limited use but also to allow a spell to affect more of the same targets, eg. T:Ind normally affects up to size +1 but this spell allows another effect to target a giant. Or alter a group spell to affect a larger group.

I think the base 1 guideline is for one type of image (sound), but I'll take a second look.

I think I have 47 points left. Added some spells I think a Covenant living by a large body of water with a monster in it might have.
Enchanted items:
Shearing knife PrAn 14- A magic knife that removes all the hair of an animal by touch. Is used by the shepherds during shearing season to quickly shear a flock. The knife is touched to an animal and a command spoken and the wool can be lifted off the sheep.
(Base 3 R: Touch +1, unlimited use +10 ) 6 BP

Shepherd’s Staff ReAn 49 - A crooked staff with a Magnetite stone embedded. Allows the user to issue commands to groups of animals. 100 sheep could be given a command at a time. This is assuming the sheep are size 0.
(Base 15 voice +2, concentration +1,Group +2 Size +1 12 uses +4) 40BP

Magus Modest Manor 6BP (CrTe30 )- Like Conjuring the Wizard's Tower but Size is only +3 and makes a cuboid structure with 2 floors and a basement 30'x30'x20'. Meant to blend in better with the neighbors.
Eyes of the FishBP 1 MuCo 5 (Base 2 +1 touch, +2 Sun) Target gains the eyes of a fish allowing them to see clearly underwater but blurry out of water.
Breeze from Within BP 4 CrAu20 (Base 1 Touch +1, Sun +2. +4 Magnitudes, wholly divorced from natural context) A very minor breeze is generated in the nose of the target, allowing them to access to all of the air that is required to breath. While underwater, the target of the spell exhales a constant stream of bubbles.that can not be stopped. The breeze makes manipulation of especially small light objects by the target difficult.
Shape of the Siren BP 8 (Base 20 +2 Sun +1 Part +1 complex requisite free) The caster's body from the hips down is transformed into the tail of a large fish, keeping the same approximate size. The caster also develops gills on his throat allowing him to breath water but inhibiting his ability to speak, imposing a -3 modifier on all rolls to communicate verbally and a -5 to spell casting totals, as if the character were speaking quietly. While in this form, the caster can move at full speed underwater and does not suffer any penalties due to pressure.
Lamp without Flame BP 2 CrIg10

I'm getting a total of 133 points (assuming you're dropping the Faerie Muto vis source and the Faerie Lore tractatus you had mentioned earlier). Unless the covenant has two of the Shepherd's Staff, which gets me to 153, which is what I think you have.

I like them.

I was counting the 25 points previously spent.

Actually, I mis-spoke. The 133 is including the 25 points previously. Do we have two Shepherd's Staves?

that was the plan. I am guessing that since the Covenant relies on the sheep wool production they will have a large herd. If this is not the case then we can take it down to 1.

No, that's fine, I just didn't want to assume anything incorrectly.

Doing some last-minute crunching, and I seem to be still shy 50 points from Wits and 47 from Jebrick, and 200 from Jonathan.Link (whom I've sent a pm to check on).

With that, I'm in the process of posting the final starting covenant sheet on the wiki this weekend, and will add in the remaining points when I can.

Finishing up the 47 points All of this will be personal BP

30bp Omnes Hypaethrus Ambulationes Natat uel Animal Summae L20 Q10
10BP Walking the Path House Merinita Lore Tractatus Q10

7BP Cloak of the Raven (MuCo35) A finely woven hooded black cloak with a shoulder area all of black raven feathers.
(Base 20 + 1 concentration +5 maintains concentration, 24 uses/day +5)

Are these Covenant Build Points or Personal Build Points? (You get a total of 200 BP to contribute to covenant creation, and an additional 75 BP for Corvus's use.)

I misunderstood. I thought we had 200 BP of which 75 were personal. I will try to get both out and split up today.

For the Covenant:
Lab Text:
Sooth Pains of the Beast(CrAn20) 4bp
Clouds of Rain and Thunder(CrAu25) 5bp
Ward against the beast of legend(ReAn20) 4bp
Ward against Water Faeries(ReAq20) 4bp

Muto Summa: L20 Q10 Mutata sunt Tempora

I don't think I added personal points:

The Craft
Summae: L8Q11 - House Verditius Lore
35 B.P.

Presenting Your Familiar
Etiquette Tractatus Q10
10 B.P.

The Bloody Coin
This is a tarnished silver coin. Each year from Ash Wednesday to Easter this coin oozes blood. The blood is Divinely tainted vis, 5 pawns of corpus vis each year.
25 B.P.

Question: Any ideas on B.P. cost for initiation scripts? I think they would fit well with The Craft Summae.

Golden Orange Tree of the Hesperides
This potted orange tree was reputed to have been grown from one of the seeds of the original golden 'apple' (actually an orange) that began the Trojan War. Legend has it that the original fruit had five pips, each of which sprouted into a fruit-bearing tree. This tree grows well in any climate, even that of the chilly Scottish moors, and bears fruit every winter. The bulk of the harvest is normal oranges, save one golden orange that has five pips, reminiscent of its predecessor. However, unlike the original orange, the pips of this fruit have never been able to sprout a new tree. Instead, each contains one pawn of Creo vis. The flesh of the golden orange is reputed to have life-sustaining powers. Tradition holds that the wedges of this fruit are distributed to the grogs of the covenant each Winter Solstice. This tree was a gauntlet gift from Gavin's parens.
