Covenant Discussion

Excellent

I've added 4 covenfolk working for the covenant on the wiki: a brewer (Marie), a carpenter (Andrea), a leatherworker (Caspar) and a mason (Guda).

They don't have full stats, but have a sufficient description for most needs. We can expand on them as needed.

These were the craftspeople I had used when fleshing out the covenant's finances.

Are we ready to begin play?

As far as I can see, the only things remaining to be done is finalize everyone's build points. Anything else?

Yeah, I think that's it. If everything else is static for build points, I'll come in and round everything out with my allocation. And when I say round out, it's not that I'll close every gap in the library, but just fill in build points.

I haven't spent my private points, partially because I have no clue what to spend them on. Everything else is go as far as I know.

A few suggestions:

  • Books for Arts or Abilities you'll want to improve but are not covered in the library
  • Lab texts for spells you'll want to learn
  • Magic items for things out of your specialties (like defensive/offensive effects) or that can be used in your lab

As a side note regarding build points, I've identified books in the library that came from Gulla's build points. Since he seems to be out, we won't have access to those books.

Those are: high-level summae on Creo, Animal, Corpus and Magic Theory, and a lab text for an enchantment (Bed of Recovery).

All of them obvious.

What I really waht, is one (or more) of the unpublished tractatuus of Concietta (Legends of Hermes p. 12ff), as that's a minor breakthrough I wouldn't have to copy. Basically I want access to the guidelines on (Legends of HErmes) p. 17.

Barring that, Vim tractatii or lab-items look like the best ideas.

I'm kinda hoping to limit my needs for offensive/defensive device, though I realise that's probably too optimistic.

Doesn't that kinda bypass the need for your research, or am I missing something?

Since Titus has Noncombattant, Ability Block (martial) and Short-Range Magic, his ability to defend himself is severely limited.

Which is why I was thinking that this his mater would be concerned for his safety, and would have arranged for a gift to keep him safer. Doesn't need to be huge effects.

Too true

One corner of his research. Let's not make them simply available - I'll get those tricks via research

I am reallocating some of Aedituus' build points. [strike]I believe there was some discussion earlier about not using bp to buy vis stocks, but it seemed that since there were several sources in the area, and some of us spent considerable time researching the site and surroundings, that it was reasonable to have discovered some sources and start harvesting them. If anyone has strong objections, I'll remove them, and add 15 more levels of lab texts instead. I'll try to update the wiki soon.[/strike]

Vis sources (50 bp): 10 pawns/year
3 pawns of Mentem from the the cobwebby remnants of the area’s ghosts (15 bp)
4 pawns of Imaginem from collected rainwater on the hearthstone of a witch's ruined house (20 bp)
3 pawn of Terram from the pumice spheres found on the shore of Laacher See (15 bp)

Library (160 bp):
Mentem summa (L15Q9) On Ghosts and Those Left Behind (24 bp)
Auram summa (L10Q9) World's Breath (19 bp)
Terram summa (L15Q8) Uncovering the Earth’s Bones (23 bp)
Enigmatic Wisdom summa (L5Q8) Circles in Infinity (23 bp)
Dominion Lore tractatus (Q10) Angels in the Architecture (10 bp)
Magic Theory tractatus (Q10) On the Interactions between Forms and Techniques, Volume 1 (10 bp)
Finesse tractatus (Q10) On the Interactions between Forms and Techniques, Volume 2 (10 bp)
Penetration tractatus (Q10) On the Interactions between Forms and Techniques, Volume 3 (10 bp)
Lab text for Candlestick with Lamp without Flame (level 10 for 2 bp)
Lab texts for 100 levels of spells (20 bp)
Lab texts for 45 levels of enchantments (9 bp)

[strike]Vis Stocks (15 pawns, 3 bp)
6 pawns Terram (from the Pumice Stones)
3 pawns Mentem (from the ghostly remnants)
6 pawns Ignem (from the gemlights)[/strike]

Private resources (50 bp):
Rego summa (L18Q8) Understanding Movement and Stillness (26 bp)
Criamon Lore tractatus (Q8) Action and Inaction (8 bp) (as margin notes in the Rego summa)
Enchanted Item: wooden candlestick with Lamp without Flame (Base 4, +1 Concentration, +5 item maintains concentration = Level 10 effect) (4 bp)
Lab texts for 50 levels of spells (10 bp)
10 pawns of vis (2 bp)
Lab text for his Longevity Ritual (free): Cr 22, Co 17, MT 6, Int +1, Aura +3; Aedituus added MT 5+1 and Int +2. Lab Total for Aedituus Longevity Ritual is 57 (+12 on aging rolls)

From my understanding of Jonathan's rule, it's not that we don't have any vis reserves, it's just that those will be determined from the vis sources we have. So I don't think that you need to buy those pawns using build points. We'll have a few pawns from most of our sources (at least those we know about right away).

I would also submit that most of the vis we were able to harvest while building the covenant will have been spent to finance the creation and acquiring resources: we bribed some of our sponsors, we purchse the right to copies of books, bought the necessary lab equipments, etc. We also had to maintain an Aegis during construction, since mundanes working at the site would have needed to be protected from the influence of the forest's ghosts.

Right. I'll go through the Vis sources when finished and draw up a draft proposal of how much Vis we should have on hand. My concern is that vis stocks are ridiculously cheap.

Got it. I'll add the bp to lab texts instead.

I've updated the covenant's library so that resources purchased by Gulla no longer show. The books have not been deleted on the wiki, they are simply no longer attached to the covenant. They are still displayed in the "Build Points" section.

Jonathan, if you want to bring some of them back, just let me know and I'll re-attach them to the covenant.

The ressources purchased by Gulla were:

  • Animal summa (L15Q11) - 26 bp
  • Corpus summa (L20Q11) - 31 bp
  • Creo summa (L20Q11) - 31 bp
  • Magic Theory summa (L8Q11) - 35 bp
  • 5 pawns/year of Corpus vis - 25 bp
  • Lab texts for 190 levels of spells - 38 bp
  • Lab texts for 34 levels of enchantments (a bed of recovery) - 7 bp

I'm going to miss some of those Summae - maybe enough to buy them :frowning:

I was kinda counting on a Corpus specialist for Praxiteles Longevity Ritual...
We might have to hire a peregrinator to do this for us...

I'm also thinking about dropping the Terram summa from my personal points and using those points to purchase something else.

Jonathan, could I use some of my personal points to boost the L15Q8 Terram summa proposed by Archimedes to L20Q8? Then I could use the remaining 23 points for something else, such as a summa on an Art that is not (or no longer) covered.

It would be nice if we could finalize those build points this week.

Well, Petronius can cook up a decent one for a non-specialist (lab total of 32 using the shared lab). Praxiteles can assist and add 5. If you can convince Titus to assist as well, he can add another 14. So together we can pull a lab total of 51, plus any increase in Arts and/or lab specializations we are able to get before you need your ritual.

Or he could refer you to his pater, who can pull a lab total of 56 by himself. But that would cost a lot more.
